Or gameplay of any of Grooveybee's forthcoming XM games that only people in Yugoslavia got to see.I'm guessing a video of the XM's show presentation.
In the age of Youtube and internet video streaming, still screenshots of video games are useless to me.

From what I understand, the H2 won't need actual Pokey chips, because the plan is to emulate Pokey in the FPGA itself like they did with the Pitfall II DPC chip in the original Harmony.A Harmony 2 cart with a built in pokey slot like the CC2 has would be great. I have no idea if Batari will ever release it since he hasn't said anything about it in ages. Otherwise no one really wants to front the huge upfront cost for a new pcb which includes a pokey slot unless you mean you were willing to do it.

Post a video on Youtube. There are more reasons to go to a show/event than just one game. At least you acknowledge that the XM now exists

I've never had a single problem receiving anything I've ordered from Best, on time or earlier than I expected, well packaged, and with great, communicative customer service.Oh look... POKEYs cost $10 as well
. Have you tried ordering anything from Best in 50+ quantity? When the XM team reaches that level of delivery quality, you can criticize them. Until then, this is just bad form.

Groovy, to be frank, I don't think the XM ever see the light of day (at least as something people will get shipped to them), and even if it magically appears, the number of users for it would be a niche within a niche within a niche. So, to me, saying "wait for the XM" is not a pragmatic solution.
I'm looking for something more pramatic for home-brewers and repros - which means looking at, perhaps, new carts or a new 'product' card similar to the Harmony-cart available on the 2600. If that means an order made for a custom cart with a Chinese factory, then so be it, I would would like to approach that option with reason than keep the entire hobby on hold for a product which will never come.
Uh oh. This won't end well.

Awesome. The last demo version of Beef Drop available on AA is XBOARD compatible and thus works as expected on the XM. I'm sure kenfused has said that the code never changed so the store's non POKEY Beef Drop should be fine on the XM as well.

Post a video on Youtube. It's Free Advertising.Come to a European show. Its an all you can eat XM buffet
.a good number of the people on this board are in the US (most, I would imagine) and aren't going to pay $1500+ airfare just to see some game previewed on unfinished hardware.

They can be bought from Best Electronics.Again, we apparently need to find some way to get new POKEY chips made (or emulated) for new 7800 carts...
-
Completely aware. I own a copy of Beef Drop VE (the one without pokey). That is true, but there is an issue of pokey being done without the XM. I don't know if you are aware, but there are two versions of Beef Drop for the 7800. One version of a pokey sound chip built inside the cartridge and the current version being sold on Atari age doesn't have a pokey sound chip built in cartridge.
The pokey version of Beef Drop is no longer being made because you have to take pokey sound chips out of Ballblazer or Commando carts. The last copy of Beef Drop that has a Pokey sound chip built inside the Cartridge was sold in 2007 or 2008. The Pokey edition had about 2 or 3 runs if I remembered right with it being a limited amount each time.
What happened to Beef Drop also would be an issue for any more 7800 homebrew games that has pokey chip built in.
You don't have to take the Pokey out of Ballblazer or Commando carts. Those are carts you can find them in, yes. But Curt and his team aren't doing that for the Pokey chips they're putting in the XM. They're ordering them.

Tia sound indeed sucks compared to pokey, but pokey can be done without the XM.No one wants tia sound.

Voice your concerns all you want, but please stop with this "cult of curt brigade" rubbish, it's childish.
*ahem*
so in other words...shut up, quit your bitchin, and your whining! Don't want to wait get a refund and piss off!

For those who suggested Curt might be offline due to Hurricane Sandy: Nope. http://google.org/crisismap/2012-sandy
He's in Carmel, NY which is more than an hour upstate from NYC and nowhere near the coast. He may have lost power for a day or so when the storm hit, but that was nearly 2 weeks ago.

Since the XBOARD works with it, already exists, and is infinitely cheaper to reproduce, why not have someone make a push to release more of them as an alternative to the potential that the XM never ships or gets delayed another year?

Until recently when you stepped in to try and even things about (rightly so, thank you), certain moderators who shall remain nameless were gleefully editing and deleting posts about this project that were disparaging - even when they were true. Some people were even put on moderator preview or banned altogether for speaking ill of the XM, Curt, or others involved in the project. Sure, some of them may have had a history of being malcontents, but the impetus of these bannings/mod preview status was this project.Voice your concerns all you want, but please stop with this "cult of curt brigade" rubbish, it's childish. Sure, there are people who will come to his defense, but you're seeing plenty of backlash as well.
I've been in the position of having taken money for pre-orders for projects that did not get completed in the time frame originally envisioned (Adventure II and Boulder Dash). I don't enjoy doing this, so I rarely take money for pre-orders, and prefer instead to have the project completed before I start selling it. That's why I'm not taking money in advance for more copies of Halo 2600. Communication is very important if you're taking money for pre-orders, and especially if there are delays. I communicated regularly regarding Adventure II and Boulder Dash, and that communication goes a long way towards reducing angst.
I paid for two 7800 Expansion Modules on September 27th, 2010. I'm confident I'll receive them, but I'd certainly like to know where the project stands and what remains to be done before these can be shipped to those who supported the project early on.
..Al
I think the thing about the treatment of this project here that is most troubling is the revisionist history being purported by it's supporters. Not you Albert, but others.

First it was $15,000. Now it's $20,000. The story keeps growing.
I ordered mine in November of 2010. 2 years ago. But suddenly, it's 3 years. Again, the story keeps growing.
I happily agree that communication would solve this.
What I don't like is the schoolyard gang up mentality. This is like watching a bunch of gibbons pile on a lion and harass from all sides.
"Well he's doing it ... look at me, so am I!!!"
I don't know about the money first hand, but just based on the number of pre-orders that have been talked about, it's at least $15,000, but probably closer to $20,000.
The XM project began the design phase in 2009, and began taking pre-orders in 2010 when the first plastics and beta boards (if one chooses to believe they actually exist) were thrown together.
As for the gang mentality, - on the surface it would seem quite unfair. But having read up quite a bit on this subject because I am interested in it, there's a pretty long and detailed history on this board of dissatisfaction with Curt being able to deliver numerous projects and products he's taken money from people for on time, or sometimes at all. Combine that with 2+ years of delays from when he started taking money, it can be pretty damn frustrating for the users. Those users deserve to have a place to express their concern.
But the fact that certain members this site was actively protecting Curt by removing or editing disparaging (but true) posts about him and the project, and apparently banning people for venting their frustrations - the piling on seems apropos. a Number of vocal supporters of the project used to go on for pages and pages shouting people down for any perceived slight. This is just the appropriate comeuppance for allowing THAT kind of bullying behavior to exist here.

I would spend $30 for a loose copy of Commando and gladly hack up a cart for DK Arcade if it meant I didn't have to wait for something that looks like it might never see the light of day.Donkey Kong XM could work on a Commando cart but it's rarity and price make it unfeasible as a doner.
Also - would it be feasible to do this with a PAL Commando cart? Because there's way more of them available.
-
Well, he did take everybody's lunch money.I agree that an update would be nice, but you guys are starting to act like kids in a schoolyard doing, the "let's gang up on one" thing.

Shameless. I'm very interested in playing DK Arcade and that Bentley Bear game on real hardware, but this is just sad. I'm not throwing a single penny into that gaping sinkhole until it ships.

Sweet!

How hard would it be to implement The US Arcade version screen order? I like the Japan screen order, but it's kinda easy to beat on normal.

Also - Since this is one of the very few home versions of DK to feature all 4 original Arcade screens, maybe having all 4 screenshots might be a better use of all that unused white space.

My only objection to that box is the use of a many game system generations later version of Mario on the back.
Since this is an attempt to make the game as Arcade-perfect as possible on the 7800, I would think sticking with Arcade-era only box art would be a more time-appropriate direction.

Sequel to Donkey Kong arcade?
