  1. There was a recent interview in Retro Gamer magazine (Sega Saturn on the cover) with Jim Bagley, the programmer of Doom on the Saturn. Quoted verbatim from the magazine : "I got a call from John Carmack, who stipulated under no circumstances could I use the 3D hardware to draw the screen, I had to use the processors like the PC." He said it effectively 'kneecapped' the Saturn version. I suspect the same happened with Quake.
  2. You are welcome Kevin I got your email, the cart will be sent out on Monday (and may take a while to arrive, coming from UK)

  7. Easily remedied on pal machines by adding a switch. Then you can enjoy full screen/full speed radiant silvergun
  8. Sorry you missed it iesposta, but best of luck in the draw. Due to time restriction, I couldn't really offer USB carts for all as it would have taken too long to get the carts ready. I was trying my best to deliver to UK/Europe (at least) by Xmas. The 'lucky 10' were the first I got notification from paypal from. Atariage was the last of 3 places I posted in (while working so there were some gaps in timing), 'vectrex fans unite' group on facebook and the vector gaming forums being the others. As I now have a mailing list set up, that's where I'll make my announcements from now on, so you all should get the notification at the same time if I do another limited edition. It'd be nice to do another similar thing this year as I'll have the benefit of starting before the beginning of December, so a bit more time to build carts.
  9. For anyone who missed out on the first 10 copies, I'm giving away a FREE copy of "Xmas Cart 2014" with USB Xmas tree to a randomly selected subscriber to my mailing list on Jan 31st. Sign up before then for a chance to win. More info here : http://www.binarysta...ware.com/?p=109

  11. I just used regular 9-pin joystick extension cables and sheared the corners off the plug to fit the Vectrex.
  12. Awesome job. I'll be sure to check it out on the Megadrive. I spent countless hours playing the c64 version of Barbarian as a kid. Up there with IK+ as one of the best 1-on-1 8bit fighters.
  13. IIRC of the first 10 orders, 5 went to to the US, 3 to Europe and 2 to UK. They sold out very quickly though.
  14. Anything would be good! But yeah, not exactly a large market. There has only been a homebrew demo (with source) released for it so far IIRC, pretty limited system but very cool display.
  15. Thanks for the kind words guys A little extra xmas present for you : you can enable the starting level select (1-16) for both games by holding button 4 while booting (hold down until the game select screen appears). Once either game is selected, use up/down on the joystick to select the word "ONLY", above "START GAME". Pressing button 4 will cycle through the start level, move down and select "START GAME" to start from the level selected.

  18. Hi guys. All orders have been posted out. I will still accept orders though they will not be processed until around 7th Jan as I have sold out of the initial batch. I'll make Xmas Cart available until the end of Jan for those who missed it.
  19. Video of a recent panel @ CGE2014 with the designers of the Vectrex hardware, Jay Smith and Gerry Karr.
  20. I voted for the c64 version. More for the reason that I've probably played that version most (aside from the arcade) as I received it as a gift from my Aunt one Christmas as a kid. I remember playing a heck of a lot of it on xmas day/boxing day
  21. Jeff already has a sequel to this (TxK) out on PS Vita and due for release on PS4 very soon. I've played the PS4 version at a gaming expo this year and it's gorgeous and plays great but I still prefer playing Tempest 2000 with a spinnner. No analog stick or touchpad really gives the same degree of control for quickly maneuvering the webs.
  22. I agree, if a nice Tempest is all you're after Tempest x3 offers a fine version. I'm just a snob when it comes to Tempest 2000 Tempest X3 is a fun game but the AI robot power-up has it's 'brain' removed and your powered-up shot hass the same power as your non-powered up shot which changes the difficulty curve quite a bit compared to T2K. Also, I feel the spinner controls really boost the Jag version over the others (I own the saturn, jag, ps1 and pc versions).
  23. Sadly Tempest X3 looks nice but is inferior to the Jaguar version of Tempest 2000.
  24. It depends how much you like Tempest 2000. I love it and pretty much own it for that reason - with a spinner-modded controller it's better than arcade Tempest for me. Otherwise there aren't that many exclusive games that are great imo.
