  1. Now taking orders for my homebrew Xmas cartridge at http://www.binarystarsoftware.com/ Very wobbly video (with very low sound as I accidentally covered the mic, d'oh!) of the beta version here :
  2. Please visit http://www.binarystarsoftware.com for ordering info.
  3. I've had a lot of late evenings this past week knocking up two festive themed games for Vectrex, "Stocking Filler" and "Save The Trees". "Xmas Cart 2014" should see a cartridge release by the end of the week. A free ROM download will follow on Xmas eve. Video : Apologies for wobbly video and low volume (I accidentally covered the mic).
  4. Williams' Arcade's Greatest Hits on Megadrive/Genesis.
  5. Batsugun is my favourite game on the system. Includes both 'Original' and 'Special' arcade versions, superb shooter. But beware, it ain't cheap.
  6. Because it's possible to do things in parallel with each other? A game does not need to be 100% complete before packaging is designed, printed and die cut for example. As mentioned, it may also be to gauge interest so cheaper prices can be sought for components etc. There are a variety of reasons and producing homebrew can be very expensive so preorders are a good way to secure the funding needed to produce it.
  7. Myself and a friend will be releasing the Vectrex version of Death Race (Death Chase) in due course. It will come on cartridge along with NOX (a version of Atari Sprint) and overlay.
  8. Whoa that's very cool. I love that he has ripped off the old Psygnosis artwork style.
  9. Sounds like it could possibly be a bootleg multicart with DIP-switches to change games instead of a menu. Like the NES Nintendo World Championships cartridge.
  10. I think the last copy sold for $8,000 or so.
  11. Thanks for your feedback. I used '2 line' crosses when I first knocked Death Chase up but they looked a little weedy next to the player sprites so I swapped them for the larger ones. I may try to add an extra couple crosses or do some further optimization but I'm pretty happy with it as-is, especially in 2 player mode. I'd rather keep things moving fast rather than have a slower paced game with more crosses. My avatar here is also used as a title screen graphic in the game.
  12. Nice work I have a version for Vectrex but I haven't released it yet.
  13. The Madtronix 3D imager is superior to the original, it is very much worth owning. Good luck finding a cheap original imager
  14. I think there has been a misunderstanding, due to the screenshots of folders I automatically assumed this was to be a ROM archive...I suspect Chris Tumber did also. I doubt anyone would have an issue with an up-to-date list of roms as long as no copyright materials were being distributed. Chris Tumber has had his works included on several commercial multicarts, CD ROMs etc without his permission before and this happened again very recently (the issue is now resolved). He left the Vectrex scene once before due to this happening and now that he has returned, he noticed it happening again. I'm sure you can understand his frustration and the sensitivity of this issue in the scene right now. Again, my apologies for misunderstanding your intent. Thanks for your efforts. *edit* I think just removing the "shareware and pd" part would cause less confusion.
  15. My apologies for jumping the gun then I guess my own comments are coloured by the fact I've seen some rather disrespectful behaviour on the part of some people lately with regard to this issue and has annoyed me somewhat being a developer myself. Those comments aside, the thread title is a bit misleading as AFAIK there has never been any shareware available for Vectrex and much of what is available is not public domain either.
  16. Yes I did and good for you for doing so. Those comments were not aimed directly at you, more just stating the way thing *ought* to be with regard to software imo. This issue keeps coming up in the Vectrex homebrew scene so I thought i'd give my 2 cents. No need to get defensive.
  17. I don't even know why this is even a discussion. If an author does not want their work distributed, then their wishes should be respected and the ROM removed. Just because someone allows a free ROM download of their software, this does not automatically mean you have license to distribute it yourself unless you have been been given express permission. If you received a free download of a book or album, would you automatically assume you could share that? People seem to assume because something exists digitally and can be easily duplicated and distributed it is public domain, especially so with software for some reason.
  18. If you are covering Vectrex homebrew, please check out my site. I'll be releasing a cartridge featuring 3 games VERY soon. http://www.binarystarsoftware.com
  19. No emulator is 100% and speed/performance can vary between computer configurations/different emulators etc, not to mention the Vectrex hardware itself so its not really a 'cheating' issue - it's that there are no reliable ways to play 'correctly' other than on the Vec itself.
  20. Vectrex homebrews tend not to use the BIOS functions for things like music playback, menus etc. That's why they come in a lot larger, as both code and data for these things must be stored in the ROM. Without music and custom menus, fonts etc it's easy enough to fit a simple game in 8k.
