  1. Great idea. I guess if it is the switch, I could swap out the help key with the option if the help key works. I can't think of a lot of software that utilizes the help key Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Def has a spring Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Picked up a gem of an 800XL to add to my collection. Works great but the option key doesn't work. It is the only key that doesn't work. Being pretty adept at mods/soldering/etc I opened her up to inspect. Even though I didn't notice any bad solder joints, I touched up the two solder points under the key, the option-specific point on the edge of the function key circuit, and the solder joint on the main motherboard that I thought has to do with option. No effect. Thoughts? Could it be the switch itself? I would think that quite rare. Thank you all, Rob
  4. Just right up the road from me!
  5. Just wanted to update you. After reading your reply about S-video quality, I received my S-Video cable today and all I can say is "wow" on the 800 S-video output, with the 130XE being a definite wow as well. The 800 (or mine at least) is a bit too bright in fact, but the sharpness is incredible. The 130XE is incredibly sharp and the brightness level is spot on, so I am giving the nod to the 130XE until I can figure out why the 800 is too bright. I have used composite on the 8-bit for many years now, but have never seen anything quite like the S-Video output!
  6. I have two 1200XL in my collection. One is in the box (box is decent) with the original boxed PSU inside. The second unit is quite yellowed. To no one's surprise I'm sure, when I pulled them out to play with them last week, neither keyboard worked (I was especially disappointed that my pristine boxed unit was whacky too). So a quick order to Best and Bradley sent me the mylar replacement. I just ordered one for the pristine unit to try it out. It worked superbly and was a piece of cake to install (but I'm sure that everyone here knows that). I paid the $49.45 for it just for the fact that it is an investment for the nice unit. Boxed and nice and white as it is, I think it would bring $500 (not planning to sell just yet, though it is my least favorite 8-bit), but it was easy to justify the $50 with my wife due to the fact that it would bring upwards of $500. So this weekend, I've been playing with my original, beloved 800 (Xmas gift, 1982 from Sears Wish Book!), my newer 130XE (I was long into ST by the time the XE came out) and the 1200XL. I like comparing Video output, compatibility, etc. There have been a lot of discussions on this, but I do believe that the 130XE has the upper hand on Composite Video out. The 800 is close - very close. So close that I will use it for most of my gaming because I just love the unit (mainly for nostalgia, but also because of quality and cart port placement). The 1200XL trails behind the others quite dramatically. I would put it between composite (800 Quality) and RF output. Enjoy your 8-bits! Rob
  7. To all may know about this device but I use the Best cable and this converter. Works pretty well for me (I use low and medium res) http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html It will work with my Amiga 500 too, so I just need to pick up an Amiga VGA cable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. That definitely sounds like the exact same expo! According to the letter, I believe it was 1989. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. My guess is that he kept a copy. There was quite a bit of correspondence and documents in his collection. Great find on (What I didn't know was) international Amiga Day. Will do on the parting. I thought of eBaying as I have a lot of experience there, but have no idea if anyone would be that interested. I think with the letter and the fact that it is an actual signed Amiga product makes it interesting Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Greetings all, A long time Atari ST user, last year I was lucky enough to purchase a well maintained and cared for Amiga 500 system (expansions, all boxes, etc). Love it! A lot different from GEM but I love it nonetheless. Since I have the Ambury RGB to VGA converter for my STe, I need to pick up a VGA cable for my new baby, but I digress I purchased from the son of the original (very active) Amiga owner from the late 80s/early 90s. I have posted a pic or two below. I was finally going through all of the boxed software that he had (primarily all productivity apps and utilities) and found a great item - an autographed Ultracard signed by none other than the father of the Amiga himself! What is funny is that the owner wrote the publisher a letter (which you can read below) telling them that even though he was happy Jay Miner stood behind it and autographed his copy at AmiExpo '89, he basically hated the product, lol The owner had receipts for a lot of the software packages, letters, updates, etc that he kept very well organized. It has been a great adventure discovering all of this history! What are everyone's thoughts about this? I think it is really cool. I am going to sell off all the productivity apps on eBay (as I want the A500 to game and compare to my ST collection), but may not part with the autographed Ultracard.
  11. I think I found what I need on my ST - the MAK512.TOS and/or MAKE1MB.TOS apps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thank you. Now that I think about it. Seems like I had a bootable TOS convert utility floppy that I used on some games. I need to research transferring files from my PC to STe anyway now that I have her all back up and running VGA using the Ambury RGB->VGA converter. It rocks! Thanks again! 13. Odd question here, I know, but I am wanting to play some Starglider (I). I have both the Automation CD from years ago and recently bought a boxed, complete copy from eBay (which I received today). Starglider II works just fine. So I thought maybe my Automation CD was bad, etc, but the boxed copy exhibits the same issue - as soon as the game launches, the craft seems to control well, but the first time that you shoot with the left mouse button, the laser just fires constantly and the craft just wonders around in a circle. The game seems to work just fine - sounds, enemies flying around, etc. I thought maybe my mouse master may be causing some incompatibility, but I just plugged my mouse in directly and it does the same thing. Can someone help me out here? Perhaps an STe incompatibility issue? I don't remember having any issues back in the day Thank you all,
  14. Ok, thanks! It is the only one of my Spectravideo/vision carts that have done this. It was a nice little find, though!
  15. Since we are on the topic PAL versus NTSC versions of games and, after all of these years I am finally cataloging my extensive collection: Now that I discovered my "new" 36" tube TV will play PAL games and not roll, I finally determined what a spectravideo game was that has no name on it. I have taken a couple of screenshots. Turns out, it is master builder. Now, what has me confused is why there is no name on either label It does not appear to be rubbed off. I would think there would be some sort of residual text or damage. There isn't. So, experts - is it common for Spectravideo games to NOT have names on them? Thanks as always Rob Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. OK, so here is a screen shot of mine on my "new" old Panasonic 36" tube TV that I picked up recently. I am now certain it is PAL It seems like in the past any CRT/tube TV that I had would always roll on PAL games but now this one will play them. Plus, you can see that it is slightly positioned down from the top edge a bit, which is consistent with the other PAL games that I play on the TV. Thanks for everyone's input! Rob Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I see why I didn't fine it - I didn't look at any of the PAL carts, as mine is NTSC. So evidently the HES Cart had an NTSC version as well, but I didn't think HES would have NTSC Versions
  18. Not sure how you found that, but thanks! I searched for Bump 'n' Jump, but it didn't see that specific one or any blue cart photos: http://www.atarimania.com/list_games_atari_search_98.117.109.112.32.39.110.39.32.106.117.109.112._2_G.html
  19. Hello all, Cataloging my collection (at long last!) and came across a Bump 'n' Jump, NTSC that I cannot place. I have searched Atarimania and it is definitely not the standard INTV/Mattel/Telegames, but I noticed that Atarimania has 3-4 other NTSC versions listed, but with no cart pics. I am sure it is a bootleg of some sort, but anyone know for sure it's origin? Again, definitely NTSC (played it a bit this morning - great game like a I remember!) Thanks! Rob
