Ahhhh, back in the saddle and it feels to good!
robcatron replied to robcatron's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Not bad on the drive $117 shipped for a 520 in a Supra 30mb case. It is a fujitsu. I thought about upgrading to TOS 2.06, but my primary use is games, so I'll stick with my 1.6x thanks Rob -
I am just thrilled. I recently aquired my new case for my 520STE case from Best, along with the correct (new) floppy drive. You may have seen my wanted ad in which I was wanting to restore my 520STE back to it's glory (as it is in a nasty yellowing 1040STF case top and old style floppy). Best came through for me (though, as with anything that you get from them, you pay for it!). New 1040STE case, correct floppy and even the 4160STe foil label for the top of the case (that Atari printed up, but never used). So now I have my 4160STe! Plus, my hard drive woes are over. I won this one from eBay the other night: My "new" 520MB hard drive I haven't fooled with the OS9 partition yet. I am not used to having this much space, plus this fellow just had this drive jam packed with utilities and applications - many that I didn't have. I was a bit nervous about it, but I was going to buy a 60MB megafile from B&C (which was going to cost $170 shipped). This was just too good a deal to pass up. Now I am back to playing my favs (the Lucasfilm games that can be installed to the HDD) - Battlehawks, BOB:Their Finest Hour, Maniac Mansion.... I'm in heaven! I am feeling those warm fuzzy feelings of nostalgia taking over. I was probably one of the most devout ST users in the US back in the day, and it's great to have her back up and going. Rob

My personal favorite that caused me to miss so many college classes - ARD as my buddy and I called it - Alternate Reality the Dungeon. I never cared for the City at all, but to me, the Dungeon was the best RPG ever released for any 8-bit computer. Also, Ultima II means alot to me. It was the first big adventure game that I ever beat (my bro-in-law and I way back in the day). It was so cool. Other than that, not much there for me on the 8-bit. The SSI games never apealed to me at all.

I have it on 3.5" floppy. PM me

I don't see switch by my machine. But if Best claims it, then it should be so - maybe they replaced PS units or made some corrections. The only thing I can think of is if it is "auto switching" though I think that would have been way too ahead of it's time for an ST computer. I recently asked a seller in the UK that was selling an ST hard drive (the 1GB model that ended recently) and I think he said that his power supply in the case was automatically switchable, but - his item was probaly quite newer than the ST - I would say a modern Hard Drive Case/enclosure. Rob

I am not certain if we are talking about the same cords/plugs. Our US outlets used to be 2 pin (or blade) -- years ago (probably in the 1950s-60s) but all house outlets are three prong now (two blade, and one round ground). There are still some low power consumer devices (like cell phone charges and the like) that only have the two blade (thus lacking the ground prong), but most (like any computers - even the ST as it used a standard PC power cord) have three - again - two blade type positive and one round "prong" negative. thanks Rob
-
Are all MegaSTE switchable 110-220V? The reason I ask is that Best Electronics list their MegaSTE that way. thank you Rob

Ok, I am going to chime in here as well, as I think the original poster and I have both been talking to the same fellow in the Netherlands. Let's say in my situation - forget about the TV output - if I buy a MegaSTE from Europe and I already have my SC1224 monitor that I use with my 4MB 520STE - will this work? Now I was around the Pirate scene quite a bit back in the day and know all about using the hertz fixers and stuff like that - heck, most all of the software that I have for my STe came from Europe, but I am not sure about whether or not a European STe would work in the US - primarily the Power supply and cord. I Know the cord is removable - can I simply use a U.S. type three prong power supply cord to connect the MegaSTE to the power in my home and it work? Also, what about a hard drive - say a SH205 or similar from Europe - would it work with US power? I know it should work on the ST functionally no problem, but I am concerned again about power. I am embarrassed, but I dug my STe out last week as I would like to start playing around with it again. I had a nice Quantum HDD with tons of my software on it, along with an ICD host adapter. I bought it new from Toad in a nice case. I cannot find it ANYWHERE, and I am miffed - I am pretty sure I must have thrown it away. So basically I need a hard drive - nothing huge, but maybe 200mb or so. Also, before I put my STe in storage about 4 years ago, my original floppy went kaput (the kind with the rhombus shaped eject button). I made a "hybrid" STe using an old STF drive (with the long flat eject button) and the top part of the STf case. Now, I want my baby back to the way she way. The STf case is nasty and yellow, and I want it looking sweet again. Dummy me must have thrown away the top of my 520STe case ( So where I am at - I am looking at two options: 1. Get a new (or used) STe case top (either 520 or 1040 would do, but prefer 520ste to match my case bottom), the STe floppy drive (and any spacers and hardware that is required to mount it back the way it came in the STe) and finally a Hard drive. If anyone has any surplus parts, I would just as soon pay someone on this board than Myatari, or best, as they quite frankly want way too much (especially for the floppy drive). This fellow in Holland said he would send me an STE case, floppy, hardware for $65 shipped, which I think is quite fair - anyone else have a similar setup for sale? 2. I actually have a "wild hair" to just say forget it and buy a MegaSTE. Does anyone have one that they want to sell? I missed out on the one that ended on eBay the other night (It went for a hair over $200) - a nice system 4 MB, 40MB internal drive. I don't really need it, as my expanded STE is just fine, but still thanks to all Rob Catron Frankfort, KY

Hey all, Not sure if there is anyone on that would have some spare Atari STE parts. I have a 4 meg 520STE. The 3.5" drive went bad back before I stored it away some time ago. I actually took a drive (with the long flat eject button) from a STF and the top part of the STF case to make a "hybrid." If I remember correctly (and I cannot find my original STE top case piece to confirm) the STE drive had the little trapezoidal-looking eject button. I dusted it off and would like to get 'er going back in her original state. I need a 520STE case (top piece) and the correct 3.5" drive that fits in it. Myatari has them, but wants WAAAAAAY too much for it all ($170 or so) which is just sillly - be better off just picking up a whole used computer off of eBay. I guess a 1040STE case top would work - but I would like the top and bottom case to match. Thanks in advance, Rob Catron Frankfort, KY

8bits- END TODAY... bunch of games> UPDATE: ON EBAY NOW END 4/6
robcatron replied to Phantom's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
You are sitting on a nice pile of cash there in those boxes. Most would do stellar on eBay (granted more about 4-5 years ago), but still. I would love to come across that set at a yard sale $$$$$$ The family that bought the Matterhorn cart would pay you well for them, but auction format would do that best. Rob -
Atari 400 800 XL MATTERHORN Cart for sale
robcatron replied to Chrodegang's topic in Auction Central
I think that Andre bought the Espial that I sold when I sold the Matterhorn. It brought in the $70 range (which I thought was low). Rob -
Well, I have been looking for 5 years now. It is my wife and I's little joke, "Hey, let's stop in that thrift shop. They are bound to have that case of New, boxed Matterhorn cartridges." I do eBay for a living. Hit Goodwills, Salvation Armies and flea markets at least 3 days week. I have NEVER found any Atari 8-bit carts in my Central Kentucky area. Never. Not even Pac-man. I think they are still around in people's attic, but I am starting to think that anything older than Nintendo NES is getting tossed. I rarely even see 2600 games anymore. Rob

You know there has to be a handfull of Tiger workers that probably would never DREAM that anyone would be interested in their crappy low budget games. Sorta like B Movies, I suppose. I wonder if someone would contact Tiger today if they could give any information on what happened to the game division, or provide any leads. Rob

Looks like my $400 prediction was pretty close. Maybe it would have brought $400 if it had that end label Rob

Atari 8-Bit Cartridges - A Big List!
robcatron replied to PitfallJones's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hi Rob, Those scans are excellent - thanks - and the romox carts are particularly cool with the picture on the back. I'd definitely like a Protector II scan as well - I haven't found any pictures of that one yet. -PJ Here is the Protector II -Rob -

Atari 8-Bit Cartridges - A Big List!
robcatron replied to PitfallJones's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
By request - here are scans of Starion and Spark Bugs (as opposed to my camera / angle shots). I scanned at 300dpi - probably too large, but you can resize. Sincerely Rob Catron -
Atari 8-Bit Cartridges - A Big List!
robcatron replied to PitfallJones's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I dusted off my carts and here are Spark Bugs and Starion (my Spark bugs is particularly nice). I could have sworn that I had BearJam. I went into the garage and found my chalkboards - I have three of those crap pieces (two in the box and one unboxed) and I am pretty sure none of them work correctly! I did find no less than three MicroMaestro carts and my Leo's Lectric, but alas, no BearJam. Which Protector II is that? Gray or Red? Must be a Gray one as I think the Red one is pretty common. If you need the red one, I'll post it for you (one of my favorite games of all time). Rob -
Thanks deathtrappomegranate - glad to see you around still. I get all gushy when I get back on these forums and always fire the 8-bit up. I actually have my 8-bit hooked up to my big screen now. Nothing like a game of Blue Max on the widescreen. I will start coming around a bit more. I am glad actually I finally found an Attack of the Mutant Camels. I think we have talked about this one before - I have been looking for that one for ages. WAAAY up there on the rarity list for me (and I have a nice collection - still ;o) Thanks to my #1 Swedish friend for pointing the ATMC listing out to me. This Matterhorn? It should go $400+ Come now - collectors, when in your lifetime will you see this one again? Not at all likely. Rob

Wow, it's been a LONG time since I have posted on the site. Hope all are doing well. This topic has interested me as most know I sold the last one (that I remember) on eBay Spring, 2002 (wish I had never done that!). It sold for $258 US the best I remember. I wish I could remember who bought it. I know they were from Kentucky originally (my home state) or had lived there in the past. In 2002, they lived in Mississippi (as that is where I shipped it to). I must say, the game was absolutely aweful. Terrible, but hey - it's so rare, you know you just have to have it. I always thought Espial was the best Tiger Game (heck, even Springer is better than Matterhorn in my opinion). I think some of you may know, but I aquired the complete collection of what was a fairly large user group in Phoenix, Arizona. I got it from a fellow who in turn got it from the person that ran the users group. I can go look it all up (it's all still in my garage) but I am thinking it was the North Phoenix Atari Group. In this (two truck load) lot was the Matterhorn, an Espial, and Springer carts (which we all know was much more common). I wish I knew more history than that, but I am afraid that is all I know. I am sure someone would like all of their stuff, and I would probably be intersted in selling it all, as it's doing me know good -- but packing it up would be a lot of hassle. What I have left is the disk library (I pretty much sold most everything else that I did not need for my collection). There were 100s of disks. Some were their monthly "subscription" floppies, along with ulitlites, just a bunch of stuff. Also 100s of game compilation diskettes that I will probably keep forever. Well, sorry to run, and I will try to drop in more often Sincerely Rob Catron

Video Reflex and Video Jogger goin' up on eBay
robcatron replied to robcatron's topic in Auction Central
Thanks so much, I will try and keep an eye out on the posts more. Rob -
I know it has been forever since I have been around here, and I apologize for that! Now, I am showing up just to try and sell something - I can hear the grief already Well, this is what I do for a living now (eBay, specializing in Video Games), but I still have my revered Atari 8-bit Computer Cartridge Collection. I have just been out of the scene a year or so now. I will be listing two 2600 rarities that I found in the "wild" today. I never thought I would see the day this would happen, but I lucked onto a very nice Video Reflex and Video Jogger Catridges. I have not found the mat or box yet. Only the loose cartridges, but they are in excellent condition (I mean, like who really would have ever used the things, especially that late in the A2600's life?!?) My eBay ID is rob-catron, and they will be going up 10:15 EST and 10:30 EST Sunday, December 10th, and running one complete week, ending on the next Sunday. Hope to see anyone there that is seaching for these two. Sincerely, Rob Catron www.kyauctionman.com
