  1. It works! I took it apart, using a piece of notebook paper to separate the mylar/silicone from the circuit board. I took my time and didn't pull the membrane or try to rush getting it off. Once it was off, I cleaned the contacts and then carefully cleaned the carbon dots. I used a "CircuitWriter" pen to redraw the contacts at the bottom edge of the mylar. I got the pen from Radio Shack. It wasn't cheap but I think I can use it for other projects.

Anyway, I let the conductive ink cure overnight and reassembled everything. With much trepidation I turned it on and all the keys register in the Self Test.

    Woohoo!

Thanks to everyone for their advice. Without it I probably would have trashed the membrane.

  2. You could also try hitting each key using the "Fast Repeating with your finger" trick, sometimes this works.

It made one of my 1200xl's work again...

That was my first attempt. Didn't work. I had some free time tonight so I disassembled the keyboard. I will pick up some conductive paint on the way home from work Thursday. With any luck I should have it repaired by the weekend.

  3. Did you tell him about AtariAge? Did you tell him he can run all the old games in an emulator? I always try to let people know there's still a scene.

I don't think it was so much about the Atari as an Atari, but rather the object that has been with him since he was 12. I think it really could have been any item. It just happened to be a 1200XL.

  4. and I feel real bad about it.

I saw the ad on our local Craigslist. 1200XL with a 410 recorder and three carts (Basic, Star Raiders, Millipede) for $150.00. Didn't know if worked, I offered $100 and the deal was done.

Today I go to pick it up and I ask the guy how long he has owned it. He tells me, "Since I was 12 years old and it was new." Oh man, you should have seen his face. I really thought he was going to cry. He tells me it's been in a box for a long, long time and his wife wanted to throw it away. He knew someone would want it and put it on Craigslist instead.

I told him it was going to a good home and I would clean it up, fix it if needed and use it. That seemed to cheer him up a bit. I told him I asked how long because I was actually looking for the one I sold a number of years ago. I also told him it will sit along side of my 400, 800, 800XL and 130XE and get used.

But boy, he sure didn't want to let go.

  5. The multi-OS circuit board is called the Ramrod/RamrodXL depending on 800/800XL, Omnimon/Omniview are names of Newell OS's.

Thanks. I will have to do some research on this one. My 800XL has the RamrodXL. My last exposure to an "omnimonned" 800 was way back in 1983/1984 when a friend had one. We used to experiment with programs using the monitor.

  6. I think I have one of the Mosaic 64K boards. It came in an 800 I acquired a while ago. This one has a smaller board with a switch attached. The 800 will boot with the switch in one position, but will not boot with it in the other. The board was in the last memory slot in the 800.

First, can someone confirm this is a Mosaic board? It looks like the one pictured above.

Secondly, does anyone have any idea what the small board with switch does? My guess is that it disables the 64K board, but since the 800 doesn't boot with it in one position, I don't know for sure.

Third, did any manual or documents turn up for the Mosaic 64K board?

I've attached pics of what I have.

    Thanks,

Definitely not a Mosaic board, it is an Atari 16KB board that someone has modified. It's not a memory upgrade since the RAM chips are still only 16Kb, the circuit could be for write protection so that the computer can run copy protected cartridge in RAM

Yeah, I saw fibrewire's post and got excited. Then, after I posted my questions, I read the rest of the thread and found out I have one of the "rare" Rev. F cards. So I edited my original post so I didn't look like a fool. :)

Now that you bring it up, I bet it's part of "The Pill". That also came with the 800. I'll check it out and see if I can dump a cart and then use the switch to run it.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

  7. This was in an 800 I acquired a while ago. Is this a standard 800 memory board? It looks different than an uncased Intec 16K board.

Anyone know what the smaller board with switch is for? The 800 will boot with the switch in one position, but not in the other. The board is in the last memory slot in the 800.

I've attached pics of what I have.

    Thanks,

  8. So do we start making a list to see if we can get 20 more made? I definitely want one. I would even consider getting two if I could figure out what's wrong with my 800XL (I have a 130XE that works perfectly, but the 800XL doesn't like displaying any color, one bit of advice was to reseat the chips, which I pushed them in more, but didn't fully reseat them. I really should give that a shot).I think I already saw at least 3 earlier people willing to get them. So I would make 4?leech

I would like to be added to the list. We're up to 5 now. But, if everyone ordered 2 then we would only need 10 people. We would be halfway there!
