  1. Nice photo. Though I would have displayed a picture of a Ford Falcon
  2. Actually yes yes and yes - it’s a classic destroyed to upgrade it to a truly pitiful specification by modern standards, basically that of a ten buck Pentium, effectively just so you can keep running a niche version of TOS. As for looks, folk may have hated the ST case design but the falcon in that photo looks like any of the several million cheap black cases that IBM wrapped around the first batch of vanilla P4 PCs that litter offices worldwide. It’s a falcon dressed up to look seriously mundane, just to get it to do modern PC type tasks the hard way, at least it looks the part I guess. It’s like taking a vintage classic car, ripping all the bodywork off and putting a Ford Escort body on the chassis. Sure you can now fit a stock spoiler, a turbo blower and roof-rack but it’s a classic car ruined none-the-less. In years to come, a Falcon in its original case is gonna be far more collectible than one that is dressed up like low end PC clone despite the 256Mb RAM, 20X CD drive and CPU upgrades, both will be totally useless by then (as opposed to being virtually useless now except for very very niche activities). I think if you are hell bent on paying obscene amounts of money to bring the Falcon up to the speed of a $10 PC from eBay you should keep the case and keyboard, and once the madness has subsided restore the Falcon to its original condition. Coz they aint making any more of em. This isn’t a flame bait post honest – it’s just my opinion. Then again every Falcon that falls to the "must fit mirrored alloy wheels, lower the suspension and bolt on a spoiler that looks like the strap from a lady giants handbag" urge means my mint Falcon gets that little bit rarer. I agree man. To each his own I guees. If people want to case their Falcons then go right ahead by all means. However they are becoming rare. All through life Ive always been a purist. A Falcon no matter how modded can never compete against a modern computer, but it is cool to see what fans can get out of the system. Id love a Falcon, but one that has been cased is worth jack to me.
  3. Why is that a shame? I mean, I think its great that Falcon owners love their machines and are willing to spend time, money, and effort to update, upgrade and enhance them... Just my humble opinion. Take a look at this Falcon. It's running at 95mhz, has 14 megs ST ram, 256 megs TT ram (SDram) , an 80 gig IDE hard drive, a Liteon DVD burner (yes, I can burn DVDs), etc, etc,..sitting in a black Wizztronics rack case: Does it look like a "shame" to you? Thanks. PS If interested, you can see more pics at my web site - see sig. Well I said it was my opinion. Yes it is a shame to me, I think it just makes it like any other PC out there, who would ever know it was an atari by looking at it. Sure it has the falcon motherboard etc, but its just different thats all, nothing like using an original falcon in its own skin.
  4. Offical Atari figures state about 20,000 units were shipped to retailers. Whether there were more produced is anyones guess. To bad alot of them have been hacked up and converted into pc towers. A shame in my opinion.
  5. Apparently Defender of the Crown is better on the ST, it has more features. So I've heard.
  6. I personally think, the ste needed better graphical capabilities. Sure it had the blitter, but it wasnt really that useful. It didnt extend the colour pallette, there were no extra colours on screen and the same old resolutions. If Atari had come up with a graphics chip to meet or exceed the amigas, then the ste would have faired alot better. Saying that though, I do love the computer.
  7. Both games look realy great. Keep up the good work boys!
  8. Congrats on the purcahse. All cartridge machines have connection problems, its usually just a buildup of dust rather than sticky gunk. Your games however shouldnt lock up, that could be a faulty cartridge. If all your games are locking up, Id be taking a closer look at the machine, it is most likely the culprit.
  9. That video looks awesome. Makes the game seem state-of-the-art and perhaps even enjoyable, which of course it is niether. Kudos to you Ernie, great job.
  10. It wasn't realy a popular game as far as I know. Atari over produced the game, thinking it would sell by the truck load- they were wrong, again!
  11. I do believe Simon was inspired by Touch Me. Ralph Baer ripped the idea from Atari.
  12. Good point Huggy! Lock this thread b4 it gets nasty.
  13. Release the CF I say. Its good for gamers. As far as piracy goes, I dont see a problem. As mentioned before there will not be a huge amount of future games released. Its mainly going appeal to fans who want to try out demo code and simple programs. Piracy is not an issue. As we all know that jag fans want to own original copies of the games anyway. Those who want to play available roms will most likely own the original game. I think people need to calm down and have some fun. After all its an extinct system. Just play it.
  14. As if anyone would pay $79 for some VHS boxes, bit expensive for my liking.
  15. I think from a technical point of view it would be great. However the thought of hacking a lynx just to display its low resolution graphics on a t.v just doesnt seem to excite me. It takes away the portable nature of our beloved machine
  16. Just wondered if anyone had seen these Lynx demos before, they look quite interesting.
  17. Theres nothing more satisfying than using the real Lynx hardware to play our favourite games.
  18. "50 copies" I hope the production is higher than that. Yes I'll be using cartridges.
  19. I suggest you just buy another copy of the game, your safe then. If worse comes to worse, crack the baby open, purchase a replacement chip and solder it in. Problem solved. Now back to Tempest...
  20. Looks awesome. Can't wait to see further screenshots. Support for the Jag keeps growing and Im really excited. Ill be purchasing this masterpiece.
  21. I agree, I think those pics are utter tosh. There is no way in hell a Motorola MC68000 could run a port of Doom, absolutely impossible. Wolf3D yes, but not Doom.
  22. I love Xenophobe. I havent got the patience to finish it though, I will one day. As mentioned it does get repetitive. I have never played the game with other friends so I couldnt tell you how much fun it would be. However its definetely worth your hard earned cash, so track a copy down.
  23. Usualy I use a bit of metholated spirits to clean the contacts. Use a cotton bud to apply the solution. Rub the contacts gently until you get the goo off them. Watch out for the label, you dont want to get any metho on it. Hope this helps.
  24. The whole CF and USB setup looks very promising Gt Turbo. I hope that these devices will be built and sold to the jaguar community, I know I'll be buying. Do you plan on using the keyboard and mouse support for something special? Perhaps a small operating system to use in conjunction with the CF card? Keep up the great work, we all appreciate it.
  25. If you have tried with 12 carts then id say it would be a problem with the jag cart connection. You say you've bent all the pins? Thats probably not the best idea. Make sure you havent got anything sitting in the bottom of the cartridge port that prevents the cartridge from being fully inserted and sitting flush with the console. Failing that, your jag might require open heart surgery to see what the problem is. Good luck
