Have you tried testing the machine with more than one cartridge? Ive had that problem with a certain cartridge, found out it was a spot of solder on one of the contact pins, a result of poor standards when manufactured.

I voted for Motor psycho. I used to love that game, until my cart packed it up. In my opinion the lynx could never have enough good racing games. Trouble is not enough programmers, oh well.
-
Yeah im pretty sure its 5mm. Use a ruler to be safe. As for painting I've never done it. However I think the jag looks great the way it is.

I think you need to generate some buzz for the game. Show some screenshots and get people interested. After all its just a hobby to most people, so selling large quantities of a game will never happen. However keep the prices down and you might be surprised. $50 is to high in my opionion.

Great stuff Game Rogue. The more jaguar info we have the better in my opinion. Whatever else you have, keep it coming

I have a spare backlight, send me a pm and I'll get back to you. Cheers.

I just got my hands on the dev cd to. Haven't played with it yet though. Its good to see that Lars has put together such a wonderful collection of programming libraries and examples. Iam very keen to get into Jaguar development, so I'll be asking heaps of questions in the near fuiture.

I think this is a really great idea. I'd be happy to help in anyway possible. We just need someone to kick-off the project and perhaps gather a team of enthusiasts together and create a development team. Perhaps setting up a website first would be the way to go.

Back in the day, Virtua racing for the mega drive/genesis was an outstanding title. Yes the frame rate was a bit low, but it was still better than the jags. Yes the controls were a bit touchy. However that game was so much fun to play. CF on the jag is a screaming pile of crud. The track layouts are boring as hell and the controls stink. Do yourself a favour go buy Virtua racing on the 32x or Sega Saturn.

Im from Melbourne, am 23 years old. Been collecting Atari for about 6 years now.

I think it might be possible to power a 2600 from a steam engine. I actually own a few of those engines, and if geared correctly to a dynamo could generate a decent amount of current to power a console. good luck lol

Try this link- http://www.a8maestro.com/sites/mtgcat/prodgame/game-p1.htm Its not to hard to do the mod yourself. Or just take your machine to your nearest electronic repairer, they will be able to do it for you. Cheers.

I wouldn't call Duke Nukem a first generation FPS... Wolf3D is what i consider a first generation FPS. Doom is second gen, as it introduces new features such as different heights and others. Duke Nukem is at least 3rd generation, as it revolutionized the genre again, by adding many new features, such as rooms over each other (only possible with some tricks though) and looking up and down and many other things. Afterall it was state-of-the-art in 96 and needed quite a powerful PC at that time. Of course the Duke Nukem engine is a lot more complicated than Doom. Even Doom runs at half of the PC resolution on the Jag. Doom PC runs fine on a 386 / 33. The minimum requirement for Duke Nukem 3D is a 486 / 66 with 8 MB although it really is a pain to play on such a system. You should have a 486 / 100 with 16 MB at least to be able to enjoy it in 320x200. And a pentium for high res. So technically it would be quite impossible too on the Jag. At least if you are talking about 1:1 port. It would also be impossible due to licensing... Regards, Lars. 912621[/snapback] I think Duke Nukem 3d would be very possible on the Jaguar. I've played around with that engine quite a bit in the early days. It uses the same raytracing technology as doom, it is defenitely not a true 3d game. It does however require extra grunt when compared to doom. Doom will certainly not run fine on a 386/33, that is the base requirement. Your looking at needing a 486/33dx to play the game smoothly. I also doubt that jag doom is half the resolution of its pc counterpart. The pc's resolution was 320*200, roughly the same as the jags. If Duke Nukem 3d can be ported to the Saturn with startling results, then I'd have to say the jag could to an admirable port.

You could increase the speed of the Mc68000 or replace it with a faster processor, however i doubt it will enhance 3d graphical abilities. For a start fight for life definetely does not use the Mc68000 for its core mathematical number crunching. If a standard Mc68000 could throw around that many polygons, then we'd all be using them. Your best bet at upgrading the jaguar, would be to add some Level 2 cache and overclock Tom and Jerry! Good luck.

I purchased my Lynx in 1994, I was still a young kid at that stage. The unit cost a whole $52 (AUD). Brand new, this was a bargain. I saved for so long to buy the lynx. 11 years on I haven't looked back. The Lynx is still my favourite protable console.

I also think that the Jaguar version of Wolf 3d is the best I've played. Its just so easy to pick up when you want to blast some nazis. The graphics, sound and music are far superior to the pc version. I also think the level layout is less confusing and more interesting than its pc counterpart.

If you are after an ST for games, then I'd stick with a run of the mill 1040stfm. This model provides you with floppy disk and t.v modulator in case you don't have a monitor. Personally I'd go for the rarer 1040ste which is what Im currently using and I love it. This machine gives you the ability to easily upgrade the memory to 4 meg. It has a larger colour pallete and an added blitter chip for enhanced graphical capabilities. Ideally a Mega STE would be even better, as it has a seperate keyboard and is much easier to live with than the standard design. Basically whatever you can pick up, you will find enjoyment in. I'd stay away from the Falcon at the moment, since you are obviously wanting something that has plenty of software and games, the Falcon is not so good for this in my opinion.

I agree with Lars totally. What the Jag needs is an impressive catalogue of individual, original and challenging games. There are plenty of games out there today even on pc's that players still enjoy- yet they don't have groundbreaking graphics. For instance games like Diablo, starcraft etc, could easily be ported to the jag. I'm not saying these games are suited to a console, but it gives you an idea of what gamers want, at a technological lever that the jaguar can match. Sure the jag has never been pushed to its boundries, and I bet if it was it could handle a decent port of virtual racing, virtua fighter or similar games. They are hardly groundbreaking by todays standards, but to jag fans, it would be a revelation. Other classic games come to mind such as stun runner, hard drivin', hydra, street fighter etc would all make excellent games on the jag.

I always loved Toughman Contest on the mega drive/genesis. It had good graphics. especially the chics in bikini's. The sound also impressed me, plenty of voices 'Wimps need not apply'. Not a bad punch either.

Hey that looks very sweet indeed. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those. Or perhaps I could make my own. Hmm! Portable jag- heaven.
-
Yes my Lynx 1 has a hole on the D-pad aswell, I think most of them did. They certainly aren't prototypes.

Ok post some of your setups again! ;)

Yes I have to agree with Serblander. Here in Australia, Falcons are very rare indeed. The prices for any that are down here are rediculous. Perhaps Serblander, we need to organise an atari function down here in Melbourne, I'm sure there are plenty of fans down here like us.
