  1. I just acquired an Atari 2600 and and Odyssey 2 and the RF connector that plugs into the TV box on both have their ends completely ripped off. This looks to be an EASY fix, but I was unable to find any RF connectors at the local Radio Shack that looks anything like the connector these things had. HOWEVER, there were audio connectors that looked exactly like the connector. I just want to get the connectors and solder them to the ends of the cables. My question is, are these connectors the same as the audio/speaker plug connectors I'm seeing? I'm trying not to have to buy a new cable just to cut the end off as just the connector is much cheaper. I swear. I've seen so many classic game systems fromt he 80's with these connectors ripped off. It's probably some of the most common damage I see. What the hell do people do with these machines that they just rip the connector right off the end of the cable??? Is it a case where they grab the console and try to run out of the room with the thing still attatched to the TV????
  2. I remember that one too but I can't remember the game. It might have been a Sega or Nintendo commercial.
  3. That's similar to how I'd like to do it. Specific rooms tied to the Zodic for Earthworld where you have to find some way to deal with the guardians or avoid them, yet all 12 rooms are one big elaborate puzzle. i'd base each game around the figures and ideas of the old Swordquest games. Sure. It would be just another RPG, but I could certainly at least give it the feel of those comic books and maybe even get Airworld made.
  4. I remember playing "Shootout" all the time at the arcade near where I worked.
  5. This has inspired me. Maybe I'll break out Neverwinter Nights or some other RPG maker and re-create the series in the manner it should have been made.
  6. Technically, I would like to see the whole Swordquest series rewritten to be what it should have been all along. An adventure quest game rather than a swap the items into the rooms with a handful of mini games. The game was advertised as an adventure/quest with a real prize. It was completely false advertising.
  7. Well, if it dies on you and you can't find another board, you can always use that awesome cabinet for other games. I could see something like Galaxian, Gorf, or Galaga running in there.
  8. Have you tried the joysticks in both ports?
  9. Wow! I'll bet that game cost you quite some coin. They didn't make many of those. Does it still work?
  10. The Swordquest carts need to be taken out to the Arizona desert. The ET carts should be dug up and distributes. The hole should be filled with the Swordquest shite! There was NOTHING about that game the even remotely felt like a quest.
  11. Yet another awful design descision made for the Atari Jr. I sometimes have no idea what the hell they were thinking when they made it. It's horrible and tends not to age well and even had issues back in the day. I managed to resuscitate mine, but the I can't get the video to look ok. Everything is fuzzy, almost like I need glasses to sharpen the image. One of my friends who had one when he was younger said that he had the fuzzy picture problem as well back in the day. It would be nice if I could sharpen it up somehow.
  12. Believe it or not, there are still some BBS's around. A lot of them are both dial up and Internet connected and accessible through a Telnet client. I actually just signed back up on a board that I was a member on back in the early 90's.
  13. I was just curious about this. In the unlikely event that one of my Atari 2600 rom chips go bad, they're pretty easy to pop out and replace. The thing is, the only other Atari I own is an Atari2600 JR. Are the boards basically the same thing? Could I pop the chips out of the Jr and pop them into a regular Atari2600 or did they make the chips proprietary to whatever they're in?
  14. One thing I've always wondered since I was a youngster playing those carts, can't you just go through the comics and find the hidden words and be done with it without having to go through the game part? Or did they hide more words in there than what you needed to find?
