Finally discovered the name of the show that was on when I was around 4 or 5 years old. Mother had put sister's large teddy to dry by the fireplace but a cinder fell from the hearth and set it alight. Always remembered that there was a cartoon on the TV at the time. It was Speed Buggy, one of the lesser known Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
