  1. With luck, the Big C might finally have met its match following an announcement by Cardiff University that they've discovered a T-cell that will attack ANY cancer cell.

Treatment still a few years away though. There are current treatments that use specific T-cells to target some cancers, but this is the first time they've found one that will target all of them.

Oh the medical companies are going to get THIS cure through?

  2. I'd send it to you but it would probably get stopped at customs.
  3. I have some Brie in the fridge that came as part of a mixed cheese pack. It's staying there until it decomposes. I love cheese but I don't like French cheeses.
  4. "They're Chesnais and the Brain, they're Chesnais and the Brain. One is a genius, the other's insane." Coming soon to Disney+.

  5. Llamatron needs an 18+ rating? This is far worse. Needs an epilepsy warning. Cool soundtrack, though.
  6. Nothing technically about it. He's bang on. Yeah, yeah, I know. The PS4 and Xbox One are technically PCs because they use PC tech. But the VCS is just an off-the-shelf PC in a fancy new form factor.
  7. Why is it that when you're looking for the truth, you're looking for "transparency", but when you know someone's lying to you, you can "see right through them" and suddenly transparency isn't a good thing? English is a fucking weird language.

When someone's lying to you, you're looking for the truth (that they're not telling you), so I'd argue that in that case seeing right through them is still a good thing.  No arguing English is a weird language, though...

Not yet, but we'll see how it goes. 😂

  9. TBH, after actually coming across one of these individuals recently, there seems to be much more to it than just the fancy box. The reasons behind people backing it include, in no particular order: 1. The Atari brand. These are less cynical people than we are who have a rose tinted view of the BRAND. 2. The case. 3. Lack of technical knowledge about computers in general which led to them thinking of 2, 4 or both. 4. Atari failing to point out clearly that the machine would be limited primarily to Fortnite and Indie games. It's clear that some people think it's going to run GTA5 at 4K.
  10. Proof that the 7800 won't run Crysis or CPU would have done it already.
  11. Think I sold my boxed Jag for about £30 on eBay 10/11 years ago. 😭 Kept my Tempest 2000 in case I ever bought another one. Looks like I won't be buying one after all. UK prices do tend to be a bit nuts. Arcade machines cost as much as ten times as more than they do in the US. I've seen arcade systems go for as little as $250-$300 in the US. Here, you're typically asking around £1500 to £3000 for one. Missed out on a bargain basement Vectrex for £100 back in October because it was the other end of Wales. Daughter was visiting her grandmother in Cardiff but not until a month after the FB listing first appeared. But I've seen prices over well over £1000 on eBay UK. The 800 is always quite expensive over here but this is insane. Problem is that others are going to list theirs at stupid prices now they've seen this.
  12. Some bastard got both my eBay and PayPal passwords. Luckily their systems worked, although I've now got the hassle of sending documents to PayPal to have restrictions on my account lifted.

Sorry ya went through that...Hopefully all passwords are changed and the paperwork will be done soon.   I'd like to find the people who do such things and ... (Too graphic for AtariAge....I'm thinking like the movie Saw, but less polite.)

  13. Why didn't anyone tell me that I can stream games remotely with Steam? Tried to install ED on the laptop and the Steam client gave me an option to stream instead. Worked okay, actually.

  14. Here in Wales we rap battle horse skeletons to keep our alcohol at Christmas. It's trick or treating ... but late and with songs.

And we have a winner. Basically someone comes to your door dressed as a skeletal horse. They then start singing to be let in. You then have to sing back why they can't be let in. And it goes back and forth until you have a winner. If the horse wins, he gets to come in and raid your fridge.

  15. Remember that time when you used to have to train voice recognition software and, even then, it was sketchy? The Amazon Echo would probably work in Glagow! 😲

  16. You know what? I've always hated Defender - on any platform. Or at least the ones that try to adhere as closely as possible to the arcade version. I used to love watching someone who knew what he was doing play the game. And the audio was bloody AWESOME! But I just couldn't get into it. Dropzone was one of the first games I got for the A8 back in '85 and I played it to death that first week. I don't think I've ever played A8 Defender. Probably because I never felt that I needed to. Yeah, I've had a look at Galagon on YouTube and it does look pretty damned amazing. But, call me crazy, I've always preferred Galaxian to Galaga. Probably because, believe it or not, I never played Galaga in the arcades. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a Galaga machine in the flesh.
  17. Strangely difficult. I like Adam's list above and, TBH, a couple of his would go on mine as well. Red Dead Redemption 2 - Because I haven't played it yet, even though we've had it for months. Minestorm (Vectrex) Robotron 2084 (Atari 8-bit) Carrier Command (ST) - I stopped playing it just at the point where I'd figured out how to beat it. F1 (whichever's the latest - gotta have a driving game) Forza 6 (better than 7, IMO) Dropzone (Atari 8-bit) Dishonored - had it absolutely ages and still not played it. Sim City (ST) Galaxian (2600)
  18. I might not actually get either. I've been exclusively an Xbox gamer for the past 12 years or so (I just worked it out and couldn't believe it's been that long) but have been finding it difficult to find time to play anything. With PC gaming now having recovered from the slump that caused me to eventually get a PS2, which had been my first console purchase since the Jag, it's getting harder to justify console gaming at all when you have a perfectly good PC that you use every day.
  19. I've played most versions of the FIFA games since FIFA98. Of course, it's a pretty different game these days. There have been some awful ones, like the version for the PS2 where all you had to do to score was cross the ball and it would ALWAYS find the head of one of your players who would ALWAYS keep his header on target. Haven't played a PC version for ages. I signed up for Origin for a month just to play Star Wars Fallen Order. I have a few days left so thought I'd install FIFA20. Holy shit it's bad. So it's getting uninstalled again. There are two huge problems. One is the free kick system, which is just over complicated. But the deal breaker is the online system. Here's briefly what went down: Decided to start a campaign of Seasons. Got stuffed 3-1 in my first ever game of FIFA20. Took an instant dislike to the free kick system in that game. But, okay, I'll carry on. Game 2 comes along and I'm actually winning 1-0. I score a second and then ... I LOSE! WTAF?? For some reason, a background process decided to close the focus on the game, so it entered windowed mode. Because it entered windowed mode, FIFA decides that I forfeit the game. It fucking KNOWS that the PC lost focus on the game. It TELLS ME! So instead of PAUSING the game for a few seconds to allow the player to refocus windows onto the game, it ends it instead. So, nah. No thanks EA.

      a) I don't "get" Discord. Or Reddit. Must be getting crusty in my old age. b) who uses smoke signals these days when nuclear fallout signals are much more efficient?

  21. Holy shit. How does that even happen in the modern era? At the weekend, Manchester United will have at least one player who was developed in their academy in their matchday squad for the 4,000th time in a row!! A record that stretches back to 1937!

  22. Dropped a laptop down the stairs today. Thankfully it was my 7 year old machine. If it was the new one, I'd be following it with a rope attached.

  23. You're wondering if they're going to give this guy a review unit? Chesnais would need to have balls of steel instead of the pair of fluffy dice he appears to have dangling between his legs considering how snowflakey they've been towards YouTubers like this.
  24. Congratulations. You have just won a taco. There are other issues (like the board's mysteriously stuck to the table with nothing stopping it from moving), but yeah. That's the main one.
