This is why all vehicles should be fitted with reversing sensors at the very least. This kind of accident happens far too often, which is why I'm always ultra careful when I'm somewhere that 3 year old granddaughter might be. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39607302

"Greatest win Wales have ever had." - Mike Philips. Was he watching the same game? We were f***ing awful. We shouldn't be struggling to put points on the board against a team we should be beating when they have all 15 on the field, never mind 14. ?

"They're Chesnais and the Brain, they're Chesnais and the Brain. One is a genius, the other's insane." Coming soon to Disney+.

"We're disappointed that there are people charged with homicide who are no longer in our jail," - Disappointed? What are you? Their dad? ?

17 year old charged with attempted murder after throwing a 6 year old boy off the 10th floor of the Tate Modern gallery.
Waiting for the inevitable "video games caused that" controversy. -
2020 Officially sucks. RIP EVH. ?

9 year old girl gone missing on the island in an area with a forest and sand dunes. Got separated from her older sister. Been missing more than 2 hours and they need to find her as the weather's turning stormy in a couple of hours. ?

99 year old has now raised £10 million for walking around his garden many times, in aid of the NHS. He only initially wanted to raise £1000! It says something when a 99 year old knows more about how to use the internet than you do.

A 26-year-old, said to be the first Brit to contract Covid, has died at our local University after an apparent accident. He contracted it whilst in China. He spent 16 weeks on lockdown there, 2 weeks on lockdown in Australia, 3 weeks on lockdown in the UK and then this happens to him. ? Poor guy was cursed.
-
Mmm. If everybody learns how to take personal precautions and behave, lockdowns wouldn't be needed. We interact with covid positives all the time.
Education and understanding are extraordinarily important. And you can measure how well you are doing by noting how often you're getting a cold or the flu. Or not getting them.

A constant question that arises whenever a tornado hits - why do Americans build houses out of wood? ?

@Kobra Kai - But what you don't want to do is make it easy for the houses to come down. Remember, it's not just the person living there, you have the debris flying around as well. In somewhere like tornado alley, you build cheap, you build twice. Around here, pretty much every house is built similarly to those in Guam, although with just standard concrete breeze blocks. I hadn't heard of houses being built around a timber frame before. The only timber frames may be for the inner walls, upon which we can put up plasterboard. Here we build an outer wall either with the concrete blocks or out of brick. We then have a cavity to insert insulation material and then a second inner wall of concrete blocks/brick. Wooden homes would have a hard time surviving here. Too damned wet! ?

A friend passed away today. Lung cancer. Just 42. Heavy smoker and weed taker. She leaves behind 5 kids, youngest being 14, and a 2 year old granddaughter. Medical negligence played a part.

Only found out about 3-4 months ago. She'd been in pain for some time but people, including the doctors and her family, called her a hypochondriac because she had mental health issues. It was the wife who urged her to keep pushing the doctors to take her seriously and eventually one of them arranged for her to have a scan. She had developed stage 4 by the time they found it. We urged her to begin legal action against the doctor but she wasn't in the mood. Looks like her kids are going to.

A guy I know passed away a couple of days ago at just 53. He had some health issues. I hadn't seen him for 20 years and that makes it feel kind of weird as, to me, it feels like he was still in his early 30s. A friend said that he hadn't expected to make it to 70.

A lot of comedy I watched as a kid doesn't seem that funny today, but just watched Dave Allen clips and nearly choked on my sandwich. That Irish fella was a comic genius.

A neighbour knocked on our door earlier to say that there was a dead cat at the side of the main road that looked like ours. It was. Looks like we passed him almost every day for 4 weeks and never noticed the little guy. We had the dog cremated and he's coming home tomorrow. At least now they can be buried side by side. ?

Ah, dammit. The new nuclear power station project has been abandoned by Hitachi. This area could have done with the jobs.

Wylfa Newydd, Anglesey (Wales) apparently.
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-54158091 -
Your research skills are on par as usual. Yeah, Wylfa Newydd. The thing is that there was also going to be road improvements as well, which this road desperately needs. There seems to be an accident every few weeks during Autumn and Winter on just a 5 mile stretch of road. Just before it was originally mothballed, there was an article about the new station on the New York Post (I think) website. Now, it's been abandoned altogether.

All schools in Wales are closing on Friday until further notice. My baby sitting duties just increased.
-
@KaeruYojimbo - What I've just heard is that the same will be happening here. Schools won't reopen until September at the earliest. @Flojomojo - Babysitting. Our 17 year old can look after herself. Grandkids will need entertaining. I'm going to order a clown costume off Amazon.

Am I losing my mind, but does Katee Sackhoff look like Jack Nicholson's Joker when she smiles?

Ancestry.com has come a long way. Building a pretty comprehensive family tree with it. So far, taken main branch back to 1786.

Where -- US, UK, Europe, elsewhere? Depending on the jurisdiction, another generation or two back and you will reach the limit of available records. One ancestor came from near Belfast, Ireland ca. 1762. He was born about 1740, but without knowing the specific parish I have no hope of pursuing him any further.

All UK - so far. There have been a few surprises. My grandad lost his mother at age 7 and was one of 14 kids, with the youngest being just 2 when my great grandmother died in 1913. One of her brothers died a year later during WW1 in a battle between a British and a German ship. I also always thought that that side of the family's roots were firmly on the island. Turned out they came from the North Wales mainland (a place called Abergele) and moved here between 1850 and 1853, judging by where the children of that generation were born.
