  1. :( This is why all vehicles should be fitted with reversing sensors at the very least. This kind of accident happens far too often, which is why I'm always ultra careful when I'm somewhere that 3 year old granddaughter might be. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39607302

Backup cameras are required by law here on new cars (2018+) which really sucks. Big trucks tend to be the problem--no reason to ruin normal size cars (or any vehicle IMO). It's what happens when lawmakers use feefees instead of brains.

    3. BydoEmpire

How exactly does a backup cam it "ruin" a normal-sized car? Mine seems to run just fine, I've noticed no ill-effects to having one.

    4. Iwantgames:)

Backup camera is good, but not as good as making sure the kid isn't near when moving the vehicle. Just cuz the car has a cam don't mean everyone always looks at it

  2. "Your Email Account will be temporary suspended on 3-05-2020 due to inactivity. You're getting this email to make sure we are not wrong." Of course you are. Fuck you, fake Microsoft.

    1. carlsson

If I got $0.01 for every fake cPanel email spam I have received in the past few weeks, I would be rich.

    2. eddhell

I'm getting LESS phone solicitors and MORE scammer e-mails since the outbreak...

  3. "Greatest win Wales have ever had." - Mike Philips. Was he watching the same game? We were f***ing awful. We shouldn't be struggling to put points on the board against a team we should be beating when they have all 15 on the field, never mind 14. 🤬

  4. "They're Chesnais and the Brain, they're Chesnais and the Brain. One is a genius, the other's insane." Coming soon to Disney+.

      Chesnais in the membrane

      Chesnais in the BRAIN!

  5. 😲😲😲: That moment when you check your emails in the morning and find 25 messages from GitHub warning you of security vulnerabilities in your project.

  6. "We're disappointed that there are people charged with homicide who are no longer in our jail," - Disappointed? What are you? Their dad? 😂

  7. 17 year old charged with attempted murder after throwing a 6 year old boy off the 10th floor of the Tate Modern gallery.

Waiting for the inevitable "video games caused that" controversy.

    1. DuggerVideoGames

It's not the fault of games, obviously, but the fault of that ASS guy.  Nobody seems to know who he is, but they're all pissed off that he owns every record.

    2. DuggerVideoGames

Jokes aside, you know there will always be a witch hunt.  They did it to rock and roll music, they did it to comic books, they did it with metal music and movies; this is not the first nor will it be the last time they try it with video games.

    3. GoldLeader

I was gonna say Sweet!  They're not blaming Heavy Metal?   Anyhow Dugger beat me to it.  Good Job Dugger!

  8. 99 year old has now raised £10 million for walking around his garden many times, in aid of the NHS. He only initially wanted to raise £1000! It says something when a 99 year old knows more about how to use the internet than you do.

  9. A constant question that arises whenever a tornado hits - why do Americans build houses out of wood? 😲

Another thing, wood homes that are destroyed have to be rebuilt. And that means more business. Big business. Like in the tech industry planned obsolescence.

    3. Tickled_Pink

@Kobra Kai - But what you don't want to do is make it easy for the houses to come down. Remember, it's not just the person living there, you have the debris flying around as well. In somewhere like tornado alley, you build cheap, you build twice. Around here, pretty much every house is built similarly to those in Guam, although with just standard concrete breeze blocks. I hadn't heard of houses being built around a timber frame before. The only timber frames may be for the inner walls, upon which we can put up plasterboard. Here we build an outer wall either with the concrete blocks or out of brick. We then have a cavity to insert insulation material and then a second inner wall of concrete blocks/brick. Wooden homes would have a hard time surviving here. Too damned wet! 😂

At least 50 buildings made of brick or concrete were destroyed in Nashville yesterday.

  10. A friend passed away today. Lung cancer. Just 42. Heavy smoker and weed taker. She leaves behind 5 kids, youngest being 14, and a 2 year old granddaughter. Medical negligence played a part.

Only found out about 3-4 months ago. She'd been in pain for some time but people, including the doctors and her family, called her a hypochondriac because she had mental health issues. It was the wife who urged her to keep pushing the doctors to take her seriously and eventually one of them arranged for her to have a scan. She had developed stage 4 by the time they found it. We urged her to begin legal action against the doctor but she wasn't in the mood. Looks like her kids are going to.

    3. save2600

Uggh, that sucks. Sorry to hear and my condolences.

    4. Atarian7

Sorry.  That IS way too young.

  11. All schools in Wales are closing on Friday until further notice. My baby sitting duties just increased.

    1. Flojomojo

      babysitting, or parenting?

    2. KaeruYojimbo

Yesterday the governor of Kansas announced that all schools in the state will be closed for the rest of the school year.

    3. Tickled_Pink

@KaeruYojimbo - What I've just heard is that the same will be happening here. Schools won't reopen until September at the earliest. @Flojomojo - Babysitting. Our 17 year old can look after herself. Grandkids will need entertaining. I'm going to order a clown costume off Amazon.

  12. Am I losing my mind, but does Katee Sackhoff look like Jack Nicholson's Joker when she smiles?

You could also use more than one router/wireless device more than one connection point half the devices on one half the devices on the other etc etc.

    3. Tickled_Pink

@patroclus99 - It generally maxes out at 75mbps but it depends on how far you are away from the nearest exchange. The further you are, the slower it gets. Where we are, we get around 60mbps. There is no FTTP in my area, except for a couple of business parks. There are cities in the UK where you can get FTTP. We had it when we lived in Cardiff. I think the max residential speed for those is around 500mbps. Lucky bastards.

    4. _The Doctor__

      _The Doctor__

60 mbps? remember when 56kbps was the bomb!

I currently get around 940mbps... give or take... my modem has two lan ports... when they first gave me gig speeds I had that out of both ports, about a year later they got smart and balance the ports... now it's a combined total of 940 give or take... Having close to 2 gig was fun while it lasted.

  14. Apparently we say the United States' "doomsday plane" overhead early yesterday morning. Granddaughter noticed it and wondered why it was so small and so slow. At 6, I guess they don't have a proper sense of distance.

    1. Flojomojo

I had to look that up. We don't talk about it in USA as far as I know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_plane

    2. xucaen

I have heard of the Doomsday Clock, but never in my life have I heard of a Doomsday Plane. o_O

    3. Tickled_Pink

How the hell did that typo creep in? Y is nowhere near W! Anyway, yeah. I'd never heard of such things either but it seems that the US isn't the only country with one. We're under some Atlantic flight paths but this didn't seem to be following the standard airline paths. Normally, when you see one, you just have to look behind it and you'll see another. This one was on its own and appeared to be at a little lower altitude than the airliners. Could make the shape out quite easily.

  15. Been a roller coaster few days. Will be glad when this week's over.

Best wishes that things go smoothly.  Enjoy the weekend, as it sounds like you need a break.

  16. Been watching guitar covers on YT and realised that next year will be 30 years since Steve Clark passed away.

  18. Bucket list for 2020: #1 Watch a Rocky movie

    1. GoldLeader

Might I recommend Rocky and Bullwinkle?

    2. atari2600land

You plan on dying this year?

    3. Tickled_Pink

Not yet, but we'll see how it goes. 😂

  19. C'mon! Get yourselves sorted FFS!

  20. Class A drugs are illegal in the UK but it seems there are plenty of people taking them. £200 for an 800XL? £80 for an "untested" one? So, by my reckoning I have over £1000 worth of systems in my cupboard.

  21. Corridor Digital just made Star Wars R-Rated. OMFG!! 😂😂

  22. Dammit! My keyboard got stuck. £230,000 for a Nintendo PlayStation prototype? I only bid £230 for it.

  23. Designing my own desk to build from scratch. What could possibly go wrong? #HamFistedDIY

    1. jd_1138

A desk is pretty easy to build.  I built ours out of 2x4 legs, 1x6's, a nice piece of planed pine for the top, etc..  It looks nice and rustic and was only like $80 in materials.  15 years old and still sturdy as hell.  I never did stain it -- just left it natural wood.  It was one of the first projects where I used Torx fasteners.  I didn't have a 1/4 impact driver back then.  I built it using my Craftsman circular saw and my 14.4 volt Craftsman Ni-Cad cordless drill.  Today with my Makita lithium tools like my 1/4 impact, drill, saws, etc.; it'd be even easier.

    2. Tickled_Pink

Just designed mine using 3DS Max. Got the idea to do it from an old 8-bit Guy video. Mine's going to be a little like a cubicle but not as enclosed as his was. One corner's going to have the monitor to I'll risk jig sawing a curved corner. Eventually want to get a 49" curved monitor for it. The idea is to have the section at the back like a mini workshop/workstation. So toying with the idea of getting rid of the leg room and putting drawers there instead. I'll be building it out of 18mm MDF. Haven't worked out the price yet but I think it might take 3 sheets, which currently cost £22 each. There's a pretty cheap hardware store down the road. So, total cost may be under £100. For a desk this size, that's probably as much as a third of what a shop bought desk would cost.

    3. jd_1138

Plus it will be three times as sturdy as a shop-bought desk and more appropriate for your use case scenario.

  24. Do you know what happens when you drop an Atari 2600 woody down the stairs? Same thing that happens to everything else. 😭😡

I feel your pain, my 800XL fell on the floor and now the left corner is chipped and the CAPS key no longer works.

    3. Tickled_Pink

Bad words were indeed said. I'd emptied my office to lay a new carpet. It was sat on top of a cupboard on top of the stairs but clumsy wife knocked it off and sent it flying. She didn't tell me. Saw it lying in pieces at the bottom. The mainboard looks okay but the switchboard is snapped and a couple of the switches have come off. Oh well ... to the spares bin it goes. I have two more in the attic, I think.

    4. Tickled_Pink

@Magmavision2000 - A replacement keyboard should hopefully be all you need. You can probably find someone around here who would be willing to sell you one.

  25. Dropped a laptop down the stairs today. Thankfully it was my 7 year old machine. If it was the new one, I'd be following it with a rope attached.

    1. john_q_atari

If it was my work laptop I'd be following it with a shot of celebratory whiskey.
