  1. That's interesting. He said something along the same lines when I last made an enquiry. No idea what he meant, though, so you've cleared that up for me at least.
  2. PC been down for a few weeks. Ordered a 5800X3D at a stupidly low price. Usually £320, but got for £205. Open box unit from Scan. 1 per customer.

  3. Picked up the new car on Monday. Honda ZR-V. A self-charging hybrid but it's a bit like driving a computer. Never seen such a thick manual for a car before!!

      x=usr(1536)

The manual for the car we recently picked up comes in multiple volumes and eats up nearly three-quarters of the glove compartment.  At a guess, based on the size of the main manual, it's probably over 700 pages in total.

Interesting how the less-involving cars become to drive, the more documentation that is required to operate them is apparently necessary.

Pretty sure this is close to 700 pages. It feels like one of my old law textbooks. Not sure why they wrapped it in cellophane, though. To protect the secrets of the car until the new owner has to actually figure something out? It'll ONLY fit in the glove compartment. It won't fit anywhere else. Which is a good thing. I must have scraped enough tobacco out of the last one's glove box to make 20 cigarettes. There's now no room for the wife to mess this one up.

  4. 4.8? Pffft! We had a 5.4 here once. I was in my bedroom and it sounded like a truck going past. House and door shook. My mum didn't hear or feel a thing. She was outside hanging out the washing.

Nothing big,  but we had a small one when I was in high school.  I thought the kid behind me had kicked my desk enough to move it slightly,  but he said he didn't.  Evidently in some parts of the building all the desks had moved around.

For a very short while, I was following an earthquake tracker. There are several of those, with different front ends and perhaps sometimes different input data. I see the latest one was in New Jersey just short of two hours ago.

The site Earthquake Track says there have been:

      • 122 earthquakes (M1.5 or more) in the past 24 hours
      • 870 earthquakes in the past 7 days
      • 3,495 earthquakes in the past 30 days
      • 51,311 earthquakes in the past 365 days

Of course most are small, at great depth, at sea or in mostly uninhabited locations but the fact they're recording more than 100 shakes per day worldwide is rather impressive.

@x=usr(1536) I suppose you should kind of expect it in LA but not around here. I think it's still the biggest, or second biggest, known to hit the UK. We have had a few but that's the only one I've ever knowingly felt. There is a small fault line under the Menai Straits, which is the reason Anglesey's separated from the mainland. On that occasion, we were probably about 20 miles from the epicentre. Weird thing was me thinking it was a truck going past. We lived in a housing estate with fairly narrow streets. It was basically a square. No chance of a truck of any description making its way around there.

  5. The human body is primarily comprised of carbon (C), Oxygen (O), Hydrogen (H) and Nitrogen (Na). So, arguably, you're 100% NaCHO.

    1. Atarian7

      Atarian7

I think Nitrogen is N and sodium is Na.

      Still funny though.

  6. Just seen a coach for an MLS team complaining about having to play in snow. I was thinking "what?" When I was a kid, it was normal to see matches played in snow on TV.

The women's team in Piteå, Sweden regularly play in snow during the late fall.

I think they complained about it back then, too.  Vaguely remember hearing a lot of piss, moan, and excuses related to snow and thinking "but it seems so fun..."

  7. Uh, no. Not 750W, 850W. Just arrived. Man, this thing feels like a chunky boi. It's heavy.
  8. Yeah, that's something I'll probably do. I have developed an issue with the sound on my motherboard as well but everything else seems to be okay. Probably got screwed up with all the on/off/on/off BS. Just seen a deal on a refurbed 750W Corsair modular PSU (the one I have was a refurb). At the end of the day, I don't want to send the GPU back only to be told it's working.
  9. A couple of weeks ago I started to get some boot problems with my PC. It would seem to boot but fail to display something. After a couple of attempts it would usually start up properly. Then I started to get glitches in Assetto Corsa Competizione, usually in night races, where cars would disappear, I'd get big frame stutters and the other cars' lights would go out. It seemed to settle down a bit once there were fewer cars in the immediate vicinity later on in the game. Last night the PC failed to boot at all. No activity whatsoever. So just spent a few hours stripping it apart and cleaning off the mountains of dust. Managed to bend the pins in my Ryzen in the process but luckily discovered the "stanley blade" method to straightening them out again. Anyway, put it together and it was alive but still the same issue with failing to show any display much of the time. Found my RX 570, put that in and everything seems to be okay. I bought the RX 6800 XT back in July so it's still under warranty but I'm not able to pin down for certain whether it's that or if the PSU is failing. It's a 650W Corsair PSU that I bought when I first put this machine together. As I recall, the Gigabyte AORUS motherboard I have was a new release and it was released in late 2018. So, it's coming up to 6 years old. Anyone have ideas which one it's most likely to be?

  11. Drop zone and Rescue on Fractalus would be nice.
  12. Finally bought a PS5 on Tuesday. Came with MW3. Still not played it. HOW MANY DOWNLOADS DO YOU NEED FOR A GAME YOU GOT ON DISC??

that's really not far off from the posts I see in Flat Earth Society, a group wherein people ask how water can stay on a "ball" without falling off, and how planes can stay up in the air, and fly "upside down" meaning in Australia.

Love Riggs and Murtaugh. Did you know that Die Hard III was considered as a Lethal Weapon movie?

Joss Ackland was brilliant in that roll. He will be missed.

He also played the chancellor of Unseen University in one of the Discworld TV movies IIRC.

Terrible thread, started with literally no point, or had a point and op didn't want to out and say it because he knew it'd get shut down earlier. Really off-topic for a vintage gaming forum.

Weird thing is that I never actually had any Lego growing up. Not strictly true. I had some but I think they were hand me downs or something as I don't remember ever being bought any. I used to have Meccano and Airfix kits.

It seems that the main issue of the case was that he lied about it to his employers and tried to cover it up instead of just saying he'd made a mistake. If there was an employment Darwin award ...

As one of the bank's financial analysts, he's required to be unquestionably trustworthy, guess he didn't consider that. Most expensive sandwich he ever gave to his partner.

  18. I knew Gaza strip was small, but never realised HOW small. It's half the size of Anglesey. WTF?? Less than 70,000 people on Anglesey. Almost 2.5 million in the Gaza Strip.

@dudeguy Is that what your media's been telling you? That no one else ever helps? The UK got dragged into both Afghanistan and Iraq because of the US. In this instance, it's unlikely that many outside of the immediate Hamas hierarchy knew what was going to happen until the day. Israeli intelligence has operatives and informants within the organisation but they were seemingly caught with their trousers around their ankles. There will be a war between the US and Iran at some point. Unfortunately, it looks like there needs to be. It's something that's been brewing ever since the US murdered the last democratically elected prime minister of Iran and installed a right-wing puppet dictatorship.

    3. dudeguy

      dudeguy

Hamas has been around for decades at this point. Palestine has had plenty of time to deal with them.

    4. Tickled_Pink

      Tickled_Pink

History has shown that it's not that easy to remove dictators. And Hamas, it seems, have done a decent enough job for the people of Gaza to not be too bothered by having them around. Kind of like how Germany saw the Nazis. They could have been the greatest Government Germany had ever known, had it not been for the megalomania, psychopathy and murder. Like Germany, the residents of the Gaza strip are now paying the price.

  19. Yeah, but it occurred to me that it's basically emulating the 7800, which was backward-compatible with the 2600. I get that people are more familiar with the 2600 name and so it makes sense to use it. Just thought it was a bit funny that it's basically a 7800 in a 2600-style shell. Wife's pre-ordering it next week, I think.
  20. Not sure if this has been asked, but ... why 2600+ and not the 7800+?

  22. Jesus, too unintelligent to even get that right. Div = retard in American English. Wuss = Wimp in his English. And how is it he doesn't seem to know what a wuss is? It's commonly used in the UK. Been a long time since I heard anyone use the word "div" outside of web design. Perfect response. 👍 As for Albert kicking him off this thread. His site, his rules. What bloodreptile actually said was the internet equivalent of "do you want to step outside?" What you said was "nah, I'm fine here by the bar nursing this beer. Now, fuck off." Class.
  23. Well, it doesn't affect anyone not making money out of Unity. So, prototyping is fine. Think you need to be earning $200,000 or so before it affects you. But this is a classic case of Unity biting the hand that feeds them. They could have lowered the threshold to as little as 10k to capture some income from the lower end devs and I don't think people would have been so upset. It's not necessarily the reason behind the change that's the issue. People understand that tools like this cost money to make. It's how they chose to raise the extra money.
  24. Translation: We didn't think y'all would notice and be so pissed.
  25. Just seen some more posts. Man, it's turning nasty. Unity have had to temporarily close two studios because of death threats while some members of staff have resigned over management's handling of the whole thing, with some of the ... uh ... walkees claiming that they had tried to warn management against what they were doing but the announcement was made without knowledge of staff. I'd say the next week or so will determine whether or not we're seeing the end of Unity. It's that bad.
