  1. It seems some of the people commenting on the article need to work on their reading comprehension. That was a good read, and I thank you for posting it. Historically, banning art to "save people" has proven only to backfire. I hope intelligent people keep voicing their opinions in the future, defending video games from crusaders who think they know how billions of other people should spend their time on earth. None of this is directed at the original poster, just general musings.
  2. I used to watch ebay all the time, searching for perfect condition cib nes games. I got some fantastic items, but I had to stop buying, and eventually stop watching. I can't bid on everything, and it became too painful to watch incredible deals going by all the time. For the final purchase, I went out with a bang and got a mint condition Adventure Island 3. I was looking for that condition for years: crisp corners, plastic still on the box, barely slit to be opened, all inserts, and the lid looks like it has only been opened a few times. I have a sizeable list of games I want in the condition I described. Near the top are Zombie Nation, Little Ninja Brothers, and all the KOEI games I can find (I only have a few). I think it will take me more than a few years to hunt those down.
  3. Wow, what made them think Street Fighter Alpha 2 and NBA Hangtime were worth that much more than the other games?
  4. Snyder's pretzel bites, pizza, and either scotch, bourbon, tequila, Guinness, or Honey Brown.
  5. Nes is the system which got me into collecting. It's great to see someone else here with a good assortment of things for it. Where do you acquire most of your items? How long have you been collecting?
  6. I know I drank this more recently than four years ago. I remember it strongly, as it was the best flavor I have had.. It's a bummer they discontinued it, like many other favorite foods and drinks of mine.
  7. I'm trying to imagine the thick awkwardness filling the air during the filming process. Each decade has its own brand of cheesy directing, and this infomercial is filled with it. Did anyone see this in an original broadcast? Was this a late night thing targeted to depressed people dying for a radical change in their lives (and desperate to hope a new game console would get them laid)? I wish I could hear the pitching process for ideas like this. Lastly, imagine the ideas which were thrown out if this was the type of thing pushed into full production.
  8. I got a super deal on this game recently, and I love it. I loved it even more when I find out it was the precursor to an old favorite of mine on nes. I need a lot of practice, though..
  9. A few years back, certain events in my life began causing my dreams to be incredibly vivid. I mean sometimes it's hard to tell if I am awake or sleeping- I see colors, hear music, taste food, feel pain, experience every sense and more, etc. I try all the regular tricks the experts say to find out if you are dreaming or not- looking at your hands, looking at a clock, looking in a mirror, but they don't work anymore. This has caused some disappointment. For example, recently I dreamed of finding a small retail store operated by two white-haired, old gentlemen. In this shop, I found a glass case filled with brand new and never before seen Colecovision and Intellivision accessories. I had stumbled upon some kind of prototype and rarity treasure trove! I was grabbing everything I could carry, asking myself if this could really be happening. Everything was so real.. I had conversations with the old guys about collecting, and I even remember reading the boxes of the accessories. It was awesome!! Then, I felt the familiar sensation of that reality fading away into normal conscious life. I have had many realistic dreams I awoke from to be extremely disappointed in the fact it was not real, but damn.. this one hurt a lot. My girlfriend rolls over to look at me and instantly asked, "What's wrong?!" I tried to explain, but that kind of disappointment is tough to impart by words alone.
  10. This is great, thank you!! What is a respectable score in this game? I don't want to get too excited about nothing. Also, any tips from the veterans?
  11. What versions are better? What is your favorite? I never really played this game until now, and it is definitely addicting.
  12. Nice! It looks as though we are in a fairly exclusive club. I bet you will be receiving many private messages about your copy.
  13. Thank you for taking the time to give me insight and advice from an experienced collector's point of view. It is quite considerate of you. The reason I have not sold any of the rare pieces I have is for reasons like the ones you stated. I told myself I would hold on to this stuff for a while and learn all I could before making final decisions. Upon joining the collector community, I took some time to read threads with people talking about selling things. I found many if not all people who sold rare things regretted it in some way. I have also never sold anything. The thought is more than a little unsettling.
  14. Ah, if only there was one more week.. I feel I was on the verge of a big score break through. Oh well, maybe next time. Good game everyone, and well done, cparsely!
  15. I understand this to a certain extent, as many people will after serving tables for a living. I used to wonder how people live with themselves after being crappy tippers without good reason. I realized people tell themselves their own sob story and become convinced what they are doing is therefore okay, as if everyone doesn't have problems as well. They evolve to be more and more self centered. A common excuse for bad tips is "the economy is bad, so I gotta do what I can." People with this mentality conveniently forget their server lives in the same economy as them, and tips are their income. If the excuse is ever you can not afford the tip, you should just go to the grocery store or get fast food, as you are otherwise expecting a free service. If you asked the bad tippers if their boss should be allowed to pay them less any week they felt like it, they would say hell no. Such people are hypocrites. Anyway, my point was supposed to be I understand there are self centered people in the world, but to see it happen with retro games adds an extra level of sadness. I have seen many actual collectors trying to screw people over through shady internet deals, and it never fails to drive me nuts.
  16. It reminds me of people selling pictures or empty boxes of things with tiny text at the bottom saying no actual item. On one hand, I think people falling for it should have read the whole listing. On the other hand, I do not respect people who use any misleading sales tactics. Unfortunately, it seems many people use shady methods to sell things. The main thing I wonder is how do they live with themselves? Do they ignore their conscience or are they missing that part of their humanity entirely?
  17. A convincing argument indeed. I have much to consider. Perhaps it will not be as easy to keep this game as I originally thought.
  18. I've got a copy of Wiz Math, and I was hoping someone might help me out. I wouldn't normally start a thread for a single game like this, but this one seems to be pretty tough to find complete. I couldn't find many sources of information concerning value, and I want to know more in case I ever decide to sell. Thank you in advance.
  19. I missed out before and heard good things. I would like one, please. Thanks!
