Thanks for all the input. I've now got a lot of fun and rare games to track down, which is a good part of the fun!

Why couldn't you guys give all these amazing tips before I left for Vegas???? Haha

Ebay bucks give back 2% of your quarterly spending, I believe.

This is definitely getting intense. It's unfortunate I will not be able to compete for the rest of the competition for this game. I might have one more chance tomorrow, but that will be it. Damn!! It figures this would happen on one of my favorite games of all time.
-
Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm looking forward to checking these out.

I have seen many rare games and variants with multiple decreasing price stickers from kaybee toys.. It's like they couldn't give this stuff away at a certain point in time. It makes me wonder what bargain bin items of today will be tomorrow's bidding wars.

I haven't done it in the intv version, but the nes Burgertime has a great maneuver I always loved using. If you have the timing down, you can run towards an enemy and drop him on the ingredient as he runs over the very edge. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I wonder if it can be done on other versions. It seems like on nes, the ingredients have a wider area of being able to drop the enemies.

Does anyone know any retro gaming related places to check out in Las Vegas - stores, arcades, museums, whatever? I figured someone has probably seen something awesome, and google doesn't always tell the whole story. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes exhausting searches turn up lost gems from previous defeats. I don't need to use a ten year old Creative Nomad charger for my Darth Vader psp anymore.. Found the original charge cable when I was looking for the intv 2 power supply. Double score!
-
Some impressive scores are coming in. I'm curious to know the history people have with this game. I, unfortunately, have never seen an arcade Burgertime cabinet. My first exposure to this game was on Intellivison, and I have loved it ever since, playing it on and off over the years. I want to acquire more versions of it, but I keep hearing intv is the best version anyway. I still need Diner!
I'm glad the hsc chose this game, as it's been a while since I played, and I scored a personal best last night!

Sometimes I play a game too much, and I need a break from the sounds. I occasionally mix songs, but I really enjoy listening to albums all the way through while gaming.
-
Wow, that is quite the find. How did they look?
-
Hmmm, Intellivision fan fiction. You just described every day for me; always losing something and finding it somewhere I have already looked twice. My wife thinks it's funny when I bumble around Mr Magoo style looking for something, not smart enough to ask her if she knows where it is.
If only it was fiction..if only it was...
It made me laugh when you said I described every day for you. It's funny, my girlfriend will surprise me by knowing where something is which I absolutely can not find. How do they do that?
-
Do you guys use a similar strategy for each level, or do you find some levels tougher in which to corral the enemies together? I try to drop as many as I can on the ingredients, but I don't know some levels well enough and end up just trying to survive.

I decided to get my Intellivision 2 out of the closet today. I have my intv 1 hooked up to my main command center in my bedroom, but it acts weird on my newer 40 inch samsung lcd (after buying a new cable and adapter, I think I need a signal booster). In the other room, I have my samsung 32 inch LCD which worked fine with intv last time I tried it. I got the intv 2 out and dusted it and the tv off. I didn't want to face the cord jungle in attempting to remove the intv 1 from it's sacred temple while replacing it with a bag of sand so my tv doesn't fall on me or something.
After going through all that, I realized I had no clue where the power supply was.. Do you know what this means? It means that this damn thing doesn't work at all!!
Ok, I realize I've gone too far with the movie references, and I'm stopping now.
I started tearing the place apart to find the power supply. I took a break to look online and see if any substitutions can be safely used or if a replacement (first party is all I want after reading horror stories) could be purchased. The prognosis is not good.
I went back to an all out search. I have a problem involving losing things. I will search until something is found, or until I have skipped too many meals and hours of sleep and to have anything but a detached view of reality and perceived existence. At this point, my search transforms into a spirit quest where part of my mind wonders why I put myself through such an ordeal. Many philosophical quandaries later, I find myself wondering why we exist at all (of course I always remember it is to be entertained, mainly by video games).
Soon after, I finally get some sleep and move to the next phase: dreaming about the item I so desperately want to find. I dream of remembering a lost box of odds n ends, inside which is the buried treasure I have spent so much time and energy seeking!
Usually, at this point, I begin to wake up. The feeling returns to my numbed mind, body, and soul. I am treated to the usual experience of falling asleep and waking up- Strange noises and flashes of color burst in my senses like cosmic fireworks of untold brilliance. I blink my eyes, and my nervous system and consciousness reboot with a shock- I am still physically moving around.. Searching everywhere. I realize the truth.. sleep was an illusion created by a relentless partition in my brain which could not be convinced to call off the original search. My mind recoils in horror, and a temporary out of body experience ensues during which different parts of my consciousness sign peace treaties and promise not to lie to each other anymore.
The end of a long day finally comes. All the mead has been swilled, and all the songs of victory have died down. I can finally lay my aching head and body down to rest, hoping I will get some real sleep this time.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for reading if you made it through. My question to everyone is: do you have any stories of triumph involving losing or forgetting about things which are eventually gloriously regained/mysteriously lost forever?

I just realized this thread is in classic gaming. Woops.

Being rare and collectible means you don't have fun with it. You keep it in a box and either flip it or brag about having one.
That isn't always true. I know people who enjoy playing their rare games. I've got some which are great as well.Just as an example, someone could want a complete set from a specific publisher and not realize some of the games were better than they expected. Also, I've played some games people hate which I found to be fun for one reason or another. Reading info on a game only goes so far for me. I need to play them myself on the original hardware.

I have played video games my whole life. It has allowed me to develop freakish reflexes and hand-eye coordination, which have helped me in many real life situations. I have no proof, but I also believe it has improved my ability to think and problem solve from many angles. I could go on and on, but to put it simply, I think video games enrich your brain on many levels (not to mention make life more fun and interesting). This is why I find the whole "video games rot your brain" thing to be ironic and hilarious.

Hello all. I collect for a handful of consoles, and I'm curious to hear other collectors' opinions on something. So, it is no secret some rare and valuable games are not fun to play. Some are downright horrible. My query is in two parts. What games (for any system) have you sought out for a long while and/or spent a fair amount on which surprised you with how fun they ended up being? Also, if you weren't surprised (tested previously on emulators / just knew before buying), or you've got some which stick out in your mind, what are some favorites of said type of game?

I am always staying up too late for one reason or another. I recently cancelled my cable, and the box was the only clock in my bedroom. The other day, I lost track of time and played until 9 am! Maybe I should get a clock.
I couldn't even name all the games I have played until sun up. A few included would be mame games such as Donkey Kong, Tapper, and Radar Scope. On Intellivision, it's Utopia, Blackjack, Burgertime, Bump N Jump, Pac-man, Space Hawk, Night Stalker, and Worm Whomper. On nes, Predator, Burgertime, Gemfire, Pirates, all three Adventure Island games, Smash TV, Dragon Warrior, Legend of Zelda, and Robo Warrior. N64- Gretzky's 3d hockey, Super Mario, Ocarina of Time, Smash Bros. On modern systems, I would play any gta game to death, Elder Scrolls games, Counter-Strike (long time ago), cod games (not anymore), Max Payne 3, and Borderlands 1 and 2 (this new one is great!). I usually end up calling it quits out of respect for whatever console I'm playing (don't want to overheat). My hands hurt more these days, too. Probably from years of controller claw.. Oh, and art school took a heavy toll on my hands as well.

Congrats on getting closer!

I found myself faced with a similar issue when I began collecting cib. Most of the boxes from childhood were great. A few were fairly worn. I decided to keep the worn ones, only seeking replacements if there was a deal I couldn't pass up. Even then, I will still keep the ones from childhood. I am definitely sentimental- it's part of the reason I became a collector. I started out just never getting rid of anything, then transitioned to actively acquiring things.

Yeah I realize things can change, but if I make an effort to keep our relationship in good standing and not take advantage of her understanding, I think we will do fine. Also, we have both talked extensively about how we do not ever want kids. I admit my life's philosophy is ever evolving, but we both agree we have too much we wish to do with our own lives to ever want to spend any time or money on kids (the neighbors' noisy brats aren't helping us warm up to the idea of offspring anyway haha). I do not wish to put down child rearing, as it is noble, respectable, rewarding, and all that. Shaping a human consciousness is a severely heavy task not to be taken lightly, so I'd prefer not to take it at all. I just enjoy traveling, hobbies, and general lack of serious responsibility too much. I'm sure I seem like a classic case to some, but it's tough to know someone through a couple posts on a forum.

Today was a Good Mail Day.
in Intellivision / Aquarius
Posted
I understand how interrupted sleep is a bummer, especially near the end, but on the bright side, packages being delivered that early is something I am jealous of. I am lucky if I get mine by 4 or 4:30 pm. However, the mail is somewhat of a joke where I live. I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe about what my parcels go through to get to me. The mail people around here seem like they hate existence and are one step away from losing it.
