Well I got mine before Christmas. I installed Win 10 Home at first and use Steam but reinstalled Professional and activated it and using a 1TB WD Passport USB that I have had for at least 10 years. Works fine.
I have not done any upgrades as of yet, but I plan to add more memory and I want to add the SATA M2 SSD but I was hoping I can get my question answered here on that if possible. The FAQ only tells you how to install. Does not tell you if you need to format ahead of time or will the Atari OS recognize it and format for you. I don't have Linux. I only want to have that for the Atari VCS use.
I dislike the reviews that you can't play games in 1080P and yes you can. I have been doing it.
I am a little disappointed with the the "classic Joystick" as it isn't as responsive as the CX 40 and it's rougher on my right thumb because it doesn't have the rubber boot. The stick is actually shorter than the originals. My 1977 joysticks work well and I saw you can buy a USB adapter for it so I will use those when I get the adapter for the Classic Atari games. The selection of games on the Atari vault, I have to say should have been better because some of the games you have to use a keypad controller which this Atari company should have also provided. I have the originals so I can always play them and hope the USB Adapter works with the Keypad controllers I have as well. I do like the Arcade games and the rotating stick for the paddle.
I like how quiet the VCS is compared to my Gaming PC when I use STEAM on it. I do like browsing with Google Chrome and You Tube. I was disappointed that the Streaming apps are just website based and not like Roku or Amazon Fire TV or Stick but it works. I am just used to Roku and Amazon Fire TV or Stick. I think they stream better. So I won't be streaming all that much. I have used it with a 4K TV with no issues as some people were having problem with theirs.
Antstream I only like about 4 to 5 games and is limited. I didn't know what to expect from that but I enjoy those 5 games. Cavern of Mars which I have the original APX game version. I placed 3rd on my first try. If the joystick was responsive, I would have had 1st place with no problem. LOL!
I am hoping the Game Developers will make some good First Person Shooter games and not just side scrolling. It's kind of reminding me of the Jaguar where the games were just 16 bit looking. Alien vs Predator and Iron Soldier type games but updated.
I know it's early for the developers and they are all independent and I will show my support by purchasing some of these games. I have not really bought much stuff since the Jaguar. Only buy certain games that interest me like the Wolfenstein Series and I am just bought BioShock. So If these developers make a game like BioShock I will definitely buy that.
Overall, yes I am happy that I backed the Atari VCS and and enjoy using it.
To answer your questions
Hardware is sturdy as I dropped the Modern Controller on the floor today. No cracks and did not break. No issues with any software. Bluetooth I wished would connect better. Once I get one of the controllers connected I always have to go to devices and pair or forget my other bluetooth devices. Mouse, Harman/Kardon Onyx Speaker, Printer
Over 200 hours of use.
I think mine was well built. VCS 800 Collectors Edition.

That was quick. This article was removed the moment I posted. Saw it on Google News. It said that they were making a mini Jaguar but with 25 games. Battlesphere, Black Ice White Noise, Gorf Classic. I thought it was suspect as how would they get the rights.

I made a mistake I had emailed the Computer History Museum not the Atari History museum and this is what they said below:

Thank you all for the reply. Yes I did contact the Atari History Museum and I just scanned my documentation that was inside the case. I contacted Ebay to see if they have my winning auction on archived but nope. They referred me to Pay Pal. I bought the attache somewhere between 1999 and 2006. I did recover my documentation and it does say $85.50 and knowing the insurance company they will pay out the lowest dollar amount possible. I have other Atari items and luckily they were all spared including the Atari Video Music Machine with original box.
I have not seen another one of the Atari 800 Attache Cases auction ever. So if someone has seen one then I should be on the lookout if I want to replace it. I never actually put my 800 in there and I am glad I did not. That 800 was a gift from my mom when I was 13. I had to get a haircut for it. That was the last time my hair was short. That was over 33 years ago. \m/ LOL!

It's so strange because you think if you were into Jaguar enough to spend that kind on money you'd be aware of AtariAge and the various games in the pipeline, pre orders that are happening, etc.
I personally won't be selling anything for decades (if ever), but it's good to know I won't be losing my shirt on $50-$100 home-brews.

A little sleazy if you ask me, especially if you do it just to resell and not to enjoy the kick ass games.
I chalk it up to a knowledge/laziness gap. Jack Nicklaus Cyber Golf is already up to $48 and its a DEMO you can get new from B&C for $45... I think money is in greater supply than intelligence or motivation is what it comes down to.

My neighbor had a fire and unfortunately the fire spread to my garage and destroyed a few things. This was one of them. I am curious to know how much it is worth so I can claim it on the insurance. I bought it on Ebay many many years ago and I cannot recall what I paid for.

Grey cartridges? Every Jaguar item I ever bought was in black. I guess I was the only one buying them when they first came out? When did they go grey? When they got old?

Do you think it will be better than the snooze-fest that is MYST?
If you like classic graphic adventure games (like the Sierra or Lucas Arts games) you will love Eerievale. Myst may be called adventure game, but personally I wouldn't really compare it with real graphic adventure games, simply because Myst is lacking in about every important aspect of graphic adventure games. And no, I don't like Myst either
Just be sure to make a cart version when ever it does come out. There are alot more core jag users than CD users, me being one of the many.
That will be an impossibility sadly. I don't create cart based games, due to the high prices for parts and equipment and due to the limited capacity. But even if I did and if I had the equipment, Eerievale would never ever fit onto a cartridge, unless you reach capacities similar to compact flash in a way.
An early PC Version of last year took over 400 MB, where you could walk a lot of ingame environments already. Uncompressed data though. Compressed it might be less. But I am sure the final game will be too large for a cartridge no matter how much I cut out of the game or how well I compress it.
It will be on the JaguarCF not CD or cart.
Exactly. The focus for the Jag version is Compact Flash, due to the obvious reasons such as high capacity, low loading times, additional memory, streaming of data and of course much better compatibiity than CD. The PS/2 ports of the compact flash cart are a very big plus as well, as they allow proper mouse support, which is very important for adventure games.

How would the Compact Flash be available to the ordinary Jaguar user? I do have 2 CD players , catboxes, scatboxes, monitor adapters. etc but no Alpine Board. How would I be able to purchase the game again? Do I need to use an extra cartridge game and remove the roms and put an eprom in its place? Please explain since i am confused.

a replacement and one spare. Next time I have to replace it, I'll be able to

If I remember, you get in the house finds some treasures and get out of the house in one piece. I did finish the game without the manual. Yep I was correct here is the description.
Adventure/ Action game where you have to jump and shoot to collect the treasures and use them to solve the mystery. You play Professor Arabesque who has been sent by the Psychical society to rid the controlling influence of the Skull of Doom. Game randomly distributes widgets and even the map every time you play. There are over 1000 variations and ten skill levels. Much like today's FPS' there are vases to reload the gun and grant lives. They are reset at the beginning of each game hour.

Will you also remember to let those of us who were lucky to get a copy and get the bug free version with the memory save feature?Thanks
Not only is it possible, but it already does save to the Memory Track.
I just read the instructions and I did not see that it supports the memory track cartridge. However, since you say it does i will give it a try.

I was just going to order my copy this morning, bugs or no bugs. I just learned of the existence of this game last week from these message boards, and was excited at the idea that finally... almost 25 years later, we have a home console version of Gorf that contains all 5 stages. By the way, I already own a real Gorf arcade machine, so I have every legal right to own the rom, as well. I wonder, if the game was pulled due to copyright issues, if it was because of the Galaxians level being included- same reason it wasn't included in the home versions back in the early 80's.
I played the Atari 800 version the same week I got my Jag version and it has all the levels. It's very fast and is quite a challenge. The Jaguar version starts off a little slower but of course it looks exactly like the arcade.

2 hours with only a few lock ups? Amazing. With all the different Jaguar versions I could never get Doom not to crash. What is your set up? Jag link? Cat Box, ScatBox? Null modem cable?

I have to agree with Linko the control method is not ideal, it sucks on a 3 button and is a bit better on the 6 button but would have been loads better if you could have simply used the L and R buttons to rotate the gun. The graphics arn't all that either and do look very 16-bit. Its a good game just not a graet one and its also very hard too.I agree as well. I thought the controls would be like Raiden where the games scrolls while you move left and right and shoot straight, etc. However, I never played this game in the arcade. I only played this Jaguar version a few times and that was it since Christmas. Maybe I can get a better feel of it later on or read the instructions.

Got my regular edition today since special was sold out. Looks pretty good and plays well also. Since I have not played this game since the arcade days in the early 80's, I can't really say if it's an exact port. I do not recall that the explosion from any enemy destroys your ship as well when you shoot it down. However, it's sure fun to play. It sound like the digitized voice is coming over the right channel only but since the game was back in the 80's I do not think it was ever stereo right? Needless to say, I like it. Can't wait for the Pluz and 2000 versions.

I take it then that you will release the 2000 version later on? I remember seeing on your website years ago that Gorf was supposed to be released like Tempest 2000 where you have Classic, Plus and 2000 versions. If this allows you to make a 2000 version easier and better to produce that's good.

Why wasn't the Jag in that list? Are you serious? Just what could possibly make the Jag among the top gadgets of the last 50 years???
I guess the rolling eyes was not sarcastic enough?
However, If the Jag would have had the impact that the 2600 did when it was supposed to be the next generation machine, it may have made the list but since the Tramiels screwed that up like everything else.

I don't understand. Am I the only one who can play Doom Eternal in 1080P with a decent frame rate in high settings? I also play Wolfenstein Collossus in 1080P but in medium settings. They run well for me. I didn't upgrade the memory at all. I did allocate the memory on Windows Settings to minimum 2048 and maximum 5120. I may have just recently changed that to 6144 and installed the latest AMD Drivers. I have been playing BioShock recently so I need to go back to Doom and see how it's playing again. Steam did an update recently and my games are starting to crash now. Thanks Steam. 😕
