    ROUND 2 - SEASON 9

    89.jpg

Evolution is an arcade style action game with six levels where you need to evolve from an amoeba to a human. Each level is a different stage in evolution with it's own unique goals. The first level is the amoeba stage where you need to eat all the DNA on the screen while avoiding the spores, microbes, and antibodies that are trying to stop you. The second level is the tadpole stage. The tadpole needs to eat three flies to move on to the next stage while avoiding the very hungry fish. Next is the rodent stage, where you need to eat five blocks of cheese while avoiding the snakes. In level four you need to guide a beaver across alligator infested waters to retrieve sticks and build a dam. The fifth level is the gorilla stage, where your gorilla has to use coconuts to fight off monkeys that are trying to steel its orange stash. And finally is the human stage, where you have to use a laser gun to fight off mutants that are trying to take over the earth.

    ROUND 1 - SEASON 9

    10259-1.jpg

Thor has completed his Quest for Tires. Now he must discover the Meaning of Life. But it won't be easy. The Meaning of Life is hidden away; somewhere in a long maze of mountains.
Each mountain is covered with clams and Thor needs to gather 100 clams in order to pay the tolls and advance through each mountain. The only way to Peter and the toll bridge is through the "real scary caves". There are lots of clams in the caves but watch out for stalagmites. Keep Thor's headlight sweeping back and forth for maximum clams.

Out of the cave, watch out for Grog, who saves clams from Thor. Thor also has contend with rocks, potholes and pterodactyls (they'll eat his wheel) in his Quest for Clams and the Meaning of Life.

  4. Hello Everyone!

Colecovision HSC Season 9 will start on Sunday, September 20th

    About Your Moderator:

As you saw in a previous post, I am now the moderator for Season 9 of the Colecovision HSC club. To tell you a bit about myself - my real name is John and I'm from Western Massachusetts. I've been into classic/retro gaming before it was known as classic/retro gaming. My first memory of gaming was with a colecovision and the added atari expansion. The colecovision is (obviously) my favorite console although I play and collect for many different systems.

I also like to restore upright arcade games and have a small collection of about 10 machines in my basement arcade - many of the arcade machines I have in my collection seem to match with some of my favorite colecovision games - donkey kong, donkey kong jr, popeye, frogger, burgertime and galaxian just to name a few. I think the colecovision is often times an under-rated system because the selection and quality of the arcade ports that they released were the best! Oddly enough, being that I live in western massachusetts I'm only about 1 1/2 hours away from Amsterdam, NY which is where the Coleco company was located (look on the bottom label of your colecovision). The factory is still there and has an outline of where the coleco sign used to be.

I haven't been an active member of AA for that long so I really don't have many posts to my name but I'm hoping to be more active and definitely keep up with the care and feeding that this HSC will need. I am not a competitive gamer but I'm always interested in beating my personal best. I also find that participating in high score competitions keeps games fun and pushes you to do your very best. I've won a few competitions: Vector Wars 2014, Colecovision HighScore.com Trophy Cracking Content and TG 16 Season 5. Feel free to check out my youtube channel if you want to see my gameplay (its pretty boring actually).

    Rules and Scoring:

Thanks to Ikrananka I now have the scoring sheets ready and will continue with the same scoring format. I've also copied the last set of rules which are pretty much the same as last season but simpler.

    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242752-season-9-colecovision-high-score-club-rules-and-guidelines/?p=3321754

    Game Selections and Introductions!

Please feel free to submit your top 5 colecovision games that you want to have in this season. For an optional BONUS, feel free to add something about yourself (I'm new here) and/or what you think about the colecovision. I prefer to run this season with originally released games but if you feel strongly on a certain homebrew, please feel free to suggest it. I also try to refrain from games that people can commonly marathon. All games suggested must be free to download ROMS for those emulation people.

    Here is my list!

    1. Tapper

    2. Jungle Hunt

    3. War Games

    4. Evolution

    5. Looping

I hope we have some strong participation! Please remember at the end of the day this is just for bragging rights - so keep the game play nice, fair, and fun!

HIGH SCORE CLUB - SEASON 9

    STARTS SUNDAY -SEPTEMBER 20TH

    (last update 09-14-2015 by Coleco1981)

    - Every Sunday, a new game will be announced and a topic will be started for the round. Rounds will run for 2 weeks and will end on Sundays at 11:00pm EST. Exceptions will be noted in the topic for that round.

    - To join the club just post a score!

    - Emulators are permitted. Please do not use the "save/load" feature of these emulators to later come back and finish a game in progress. High scores should be from a single game playing session.

    - Games may be played using the Atgames Colecovision Flashback

    - Pausing a game is acceptable for short periods to allow for bio breaks!

    - Screenshots of your score are not necessary but are encouraged for higher scores.

    - Post your scores in the thread of the actual game. Please create a new post for each score - do not update existing posts with new scores.

    - Please do not cheat or abuse bugs/glitches in the games to your advantage!

    - Use the same skill level as posted so that all scores will be accurate.

    - Everyone who rolls a score will be tied for first place. Unless noted in the thread you do not have to continue playing after you roll a score unless you choose to do so.Exceptions will be noted in the topic for that round.

    - Scoring system:

The scoring system encourages all players to try and achieve their personal best because it is proportionally based. The player with the highest score in a game will be in first place and will win 100 points. All other points are allocated based on each player's score relative to the top score. Points are rounded to the nearest integer.

    Example:

    1st place = 100,000 = 100 points
    2nd place = 73,860 = 74 points
    3rd place = 68,652 = 69 points
    4th place = 35,981 = 36 points
    5th place = 22,343 = 22 points
    6th place = 11,936 = 12 points
    7th place = 1,328 = 1 points

If a tie should occur for first place then both/all of the first place tied players will each receive 100 points. All other players will receive points relative to the top score as usual. If players tie for other positions then this does not affect the scoring, all players will be allocated points relative to the top score, in this instance the tied players would receive the same number of points without affecting the score of other players in lower positions. So, the only way that a player's points can be reduced is if the top score is increased.

This system encourages both high scorers and lower scorers alike. Those exceptional players can keep increasing the top score thus pushing the points of the other players down and player's lower in the ranking can always get more points by simply beating their last high score.

The Colecovision HSC is just for fun and bragging rights. Please DO NOT CHEAT and DO NOT ABUSE BUGS/GLITCHS in the games to your advantage. If you are suspected of

cheating in any way your score will be removed from the HSC.

If you have any questions or comments please send a PM to Coleco1981 and I will respond ASAP.

  6. Awesome that would be very helpful. I'd also like to see where I stand on the list. I sent payment several months ago.

    Thanks again.

UPDATE: by the end of this week I should have a precise date on when the SGMs will be ready to ship. Please stay tuned.

  7. Hey guys!

As NIKON mentioned in the Air Zonk thread, I'm going to be stepping in as the HSC moderator while he tends to his health. I'm sure that we all hope for a quick recovery and will keep him in our AA-related thoughts. As I told him privately, I will happily hand the TG-16 HSC reins back to him if he gets to a point where he can once again steer the ship.

Right now, just by coincidence, the current round of the NES HSC and the TG-16 HSC started and will stop on the same day, so I am just going to keep that pattern going as it makes it easier for me to take care of them in a timely manner.

Basically I want to get a bunch of feedback from you guys to see if anyone wants to make any changes to the way things are currently done. If you don't want that, that is also fine.

    - NIKON's intention was to let this season run through the end of the year. Is anyone interested in having shorter seasons of maybe 10 2-week rounds, as the NES HSC is run? If so, do you want to end the current season early?

I'm ok with keeping it short - I think participation has steadily gone down. The shorter the season the more ongoing interest from a larger crowd I think.

    - Does everyone like having the TG-CD HSC use month-long rounds or would you rather they be the same length as the HuCard HSC?

I like the 2 week deal - it keeps me interested that way because I play primarily to be exposed to new games I haven't played before. I wouldn't even be opposed to 1 game a week.

    - Would you guys prefer if the list of games for the season were pre-determined so that you have a chance to give some input, or do you prefer to just be surprised every week?

    I like the surprise personally..

The rules that NIKON laid out for the HSC are all common-sense, so I'm not going to make any changes to them whatsoever. What they really come down to is don't cheat, don't use old scores, don't play in an unsportsmanlike manner (i.e. point-farming or point-leeching), and screenshots are great but at the end of the day we're on the honor system.

    Thanks guys!

    Chris

  8. Oops, I should have played more (it's a great game by the way) and pushed for that 3 million goal. Great scores, coleco1981 and jblenkle.

Thanks, this game is great - I haven't played it before but its addicting. Its a risk vs reward thing - the big points appear to come when you group enemies together and wipe them all out at once. If your not fast enough though they flip back and get angry!

  9. Hola,

During my vacation I picked up and carried back on the plane an Adam Computer! It was found in a hoarders house in Florida and not very well taken care of - rust was falling out of the vent holes!

I'm going to try to restore this thing but I need some advice. I took apart the unit and the rust was essentially from the RF shielding which was crumbling, it looks like decades of moisture made this thing into a rust bucket.

Once I took the RF shielding off the boards themselves it actually looks OK so it MIGHT actual work. So I have questions for anyone who is familiar with the inner-workings of an Adam - please excuse the newbishness of these questions - I've never owned an Adam before but I'm a big colecovision fan and I want to play some super games!

    1. It appears to have some composite outputs on this but I'm not clear on what type of cable I will need. Does it take the same type of cable as my AV out on a Ti99/4A or Commodore 128? Since I am going to run this thing without RF shielding I'm assuming I will need to use the composite video output?

    2. I have the printer which includes the PSU and the cable that connects it to the main unit. The printer I have turns on and it appears to be outputting the correct voltages. Is there something else I should be checking?

    3. I have the keyboard but I don't have the cable that goes between the keyboard and the unit. It appears to be a telephone type connection. Will a phone line work? What type of cable is it? Anyone have a pinout?

    4. Since the boards were covered in rust, I don't know if I trust myself to power this thing untill I know for sure every piece of little metal has been cleaned out. I know boards can be hosed down but I'm hoping for a more gentle method that won't leave any residue. Suggestions?

    5. It looks like 1 tape unit might work, but the other has crumbling rubber near where the tape head is. Is it possible to rebuild these? where would I get the parts to restore something like that?

    6. One of the reset switches won't move because its completely rusted. anyway know what type of switch it is so I can replace it with a newer one? Why does the unit have 2 reset switches? 1 for tapes the other for carts?

    7. I'm going to check for shorts on the board before I give it power. Is there a specific area that I should check to see if its shorted before I blow this thing? Its either going to be a huge win or a big disappointment. I've been wanting to stag out of these units for awhile but ebay prices + shipping has made getting a known working out out of reach. lugging this bad boy back I hope will pay off!

Thanks for any advice for help you guys and provide!
