Here's how I do it. I used to play this in 1985. I found out in 2013 how to get past day 1.

Hey we've all been there, particularly me, with the same thing that got you.
The IF statement ..... confusing TI coders since 1979.

should be leftalt and the number 4 key
Yeah, on a normal computer it is ... and F4 works as break .... but on a Chromebook, it's stupid, it's all proprietary functions - I wouldn't be using it except my Win10 machine decided to commit suicide the other morning. Also JS99er runs very very well on the Chromebook.

-
I thought you were declaring vnut as an integer...
Please tell me I'm not the only one who laughed out loud at this?

What happens if you press Atl+4 or AltGr+4 instead?
Keyboard emulation in a browser is a PITA. It is definitely the feature I have had most problems with.
It opens up a separate tab with Youtube on it.
These are issues to do with my Chromebook I think. For example; there are no function keys along the top of the keyboard, they are proprietary keys for this hardware instead, such as refresh, back, forwards, fullscreen etc. With function keys I would press F4 to break a TI program in JS99er.
Left Alt button works with key P for speech marks though.
* Also .....
Found out why there's sometimes garbage printed when LIST is typed; it only seems to occur when it's a program I've made using the TI994a Basic Editor online, other programs listed, have no problems.
-
Hmm, that doesn't happen to me. You wrote that you're pressing Ctrl+4, but you mean Alt+4, which will emulate Fctn+4, right?
On my Chromebook I press CTRL and 4. It's the ctrl key on the right side next to alt/gr. It might have something to do with it being a chromebook , i dunno yet

Hello again Rasmus.
I've found another slight issue.
When breaking from any Basic program, if I use a real keyboard (rather than the simulated one) using the CNTRL and 4 keys, it breaks, but then will not write proper characters again.
as seen in this short video. Of course, if I use the graphical keyboard within JS99er. this does not occur.

I am deeply saddened to hear of this earthquake, and the lives it has lost, and of one of our own. My sincere condolences. x

I love this game! ... This proves TI Basic doesn't always have to be a tedious patience-hungry affair. The game plays just nice. Good graphics too for the buildings to give 3d perspective.

Yes, and you should keep going too! I've just tried this new revision of the game - delightful graphics, lovely sounds, I like the score number that briefly floats upwards when you collect apples ... the snake looks great. Of course, the miracle is keeping all this within 8K. Good Going!

"TimeWalker"
You are a student at an american college campus and there's a rogue 'mummy' on the loose!
(its not a proper mummy, it's really an alien that was found wrapped in bandages in king tut's tomb and mistaken for him)
Brought in from an expedition to Egypt, it came with a set of 7 crystals that are now missing. The 'mummy' is missing from it's sarcophagus and it's killing randomly.
There are 6 other students involved as well as you ... (they are only in the game to die)
can you gather the crystals into one place before the mummy kills the students and you?
This idea came from the 1982 B-Movie of the same name.
If this is not possible to do with the Adventure module let me know and I'll see about making it myself, ha!

I do like what you've been able to pull out of XB256 @retrospect. It is a wonderful tool that hasn't seen a lot of love yet.
Thanks Ksarul. I'm still quite a newbie to it myself, I wish I had more time to spend on doing things and actually commit to projects properly.
XB256 is truly great.

Another thing to note, mainly for beginners .... If you want a less cluttered up screen, you should alter line 120 to this:
120 Z=INT ( 6 * RND ) + 1 :: X = INT ( 6 * RND ) + 1 :: IF Z = X THEN 121 ELSE 130Or, alter it from 6 to 9 for both Z and X for even less clutter (the game would become very easy compared)
You could even have the numbers stored in two variables that get lower , the more screens you complete, thereby giving the game proper 'levels'
-
I've made a little game that uses the scrolling in XB256 again ... this time, I would like people who have the time, or the curiosity, to try this game , and with the source provided (which is documented) try and make alterations to it, to add things, or make it do different things! Newcomers to XB256 will find this quite handy.
Points:
* The delay subroutine at line 9000 is set for a compiled version of the game, and as such needs lowering to about 16 instead of 350 if you're not compiling
* All the delays in the game are set for compiler (the one in the explosion routine needs lowering)
* You only get 1 life .... you could add a feature that gives you more lives. The lives can be displayed at the bottom of the screen, so long as you alter any CALL WINDOW commands to 23 instead of 24 for the column.
Have fun.
treasure trove xb256.txt < --- source ... alter at will.
TROVE.zip <---- compiled FIAD file (fine for Classic99 & JS99er)

Out of all those, I'd have picked Car Wars. Because the rest are actually good games.

-
I'm thinking about whether it would be possible to make a decent racing game without using the F18A. Is Pole Position the only game of its kind for the TI?
Pole Position is as far as I know, the only game of its kind on the TI. All the other racing games had it viewed from above and the car always looked like a bone. With asterisks for the background.

Testing so far shows you've fixed the problem, Rasmus. Thanks. I will continue testing just in case.
[in a full session of Robotron, the problem did not occur, neither in Ms Pacman]

Thanks, can you refer me to some programs where I can reproduce these issues?
Yes, one of them was "Ms PacMan" on the Atari compilation, on that game, I found that I could not go down ... but it doesn't happen straight away. It kind of "kicks in" when it does it.
There were other games also, I can't remember which I tried - but I think if we play a few, the occurance will happen.
On other games, the keys can 'stick' ... for example the arrow keys, ESDX. and the player goes one way and no other.
Also ... the strange + and number symbols in BASIC listings can occur at random ... when we load a game or program, it just sometimes does it .... not all the time, just sometimes. Which I suppose will make it harder to trap and correct.
-
Rasmus, I have a quirky request. On the JS99er page, there is quite a bit of white space , would look good with a background of a TI monitor or even a plate of brushed aluminium, of course, only should you desire.
Also, I have found some issues;
* with games using the joystick emulation (laptop arrow keys) and the down direction sticking.* Sometimes when we list a basic program, it lists lots of numbers and plus symbols and not the actual program.
Regards, Joe
