  1. Crap, my quote was $47 each! 5 minimum. I may be sending you a pm, if you don't mind sharing your sources.

     

    I originally started with a smaller board(still over 100mmx100mm), but couldn't make it work without dozens of via's. It got too complicated for me to follow. I'm guessing the smart thing to do would be to split the board into two since both sections are discrete anyway. Looks like I could get each around 50mm x 130mm.


  2. Thank you very much for your insight. I did not know about inside corners. That could be a problem. I will have to double check how much gap I left there. The quote is just under $50US 5 board minimum. Not really worth it, but I've done dumber things...

     

    Certainly not tied to this software, just seemed easy to use and was free. Do you know of any free alternatives?

  3. Hi all, I usually post in the Atari 8-bit forum but had an Amiga 500 question.

    Back in the day, I had an A500 with a CSA Derringer and DKB Megachip in it. The problem was that the Derringer had to be raised
    up with an extra cpu socket in order to clear over the top of the Megachip. The issue with that was that the Derringer now
    interfered with the bottom of the keyboard and wouldn't fit in the case. What I did back then was remove the keyboard and attach
    it via a cable, and use the keyboard externally. It worked fine, but was ugly.

    I recently found some of my Amiga accessories in storage, and got the bug to play around with that stuff again. I bought an A500
    on ebay(rev 6a). I still have my Megachip, Derringer, external hdd, ram, etc... I want to put it all together again, but want to
    do things a little different this time.

    I made a riser for the Derringer with proto-board and ribbon cable that offsets the cpu socket deeper inside the case(see attached pic). It allows
    the Derringer to clear the Megachip and the bottom of the keyboard. But it looks a bit "hobby". So now what i've done is make a
    pcb layout in PCB Artist by Advanced Circuits that does the same thing. I decided to also include a kickstart switch on the same
    board. I borrowed the design for that from SepticSurgeon here.

    My question is, can someone look at the attached pcb layout and point out my mistakes? It is very simple, but I've never done
    anything like this before, and I have no idea what I'm doing. The odd board shape is to fit around the megachip. Do my
    measurements look right? Are the trace widths acceptable(power, ground, data)? Do the traces run where they should(I've looked
    dozens of times and they seem right to me. The CPU riser is just pin to pin, and the kickstart switcher is pretty simple)?
    Anything I haven't considered? The attached file is PCB artist .pcb format, but I can export a .dxf if needed although I have no way of viewing it to know if it
    exports correctly...

    TLDR:
    Can someone look at my pcb layout(in pcb artist format, or .dxf if needed) and point out mistakes? Doesn't need to be perfect,
    just functional.
    Do the measurements seem right for a rev 6a mobo(to fit around a Megachip)?
    Any advice I haven't considered(besides the waste of money)?

  4. It was just after the xl series was introduced. I had an Atari 400 upgraded to 48k since they first came out and a rana 1000 floppy drive. I loaned the drive to a "friend" who had an Atari 800. He was having trouble using it, so he took it apart and ended up breaking it. I was too young to fix it, and too poor to have it fixed. I remember wanting a 1450xld sooooo bad, but no way I could ever get one. I just sorta faded out of computers after that, until I started hanging out with a friend with an Amiga. I had another friend with an st, and was torn which one to get, but eventually decided on Amiga. I used that until picking up a 486dx2 in electronics school. Pc ever since. Although, I'm running with an Atari 400 again, and am in the process of upgrading an Amiga to match my old system.


  5. I was able to download all of the files, but was unsuccessful converting them to .cas. I tried wav2cas and a8cas. I don't really know how to use a8cas very well. I was able to create bad .cas files(and .hex files), so I'm pretty sure I was using it correctly(without using the more advanced options...). Maybe Kr0tki or someone more knowledgeable than I could get these fixed for you. Sorry! Good luck.

     

    The levels didn't seem too bad, but the recordings seemed very noisy with a loud whining sound. Tweaking it in Audacity didn't seem to help...

  6. That's what my AtariVox has - it's a very capable and easy to program chip.

    I have never heard what that chip sounds like, but I picked up an nos one from eBay a while ago so that I can build a "cheep talk". Still need the oscillator and other components though...

     

    I will have to look up atarivox on YouTube and check it out.
