  1. I seem to getting quite the collection of error messages. I've set the compiler setting to Batari basic itself come up with an error message saying " could not locate default.bas.bin and could not recompile. Please check to make sure it was compiled correctly."
  2. Well whats happening now is I am going to the settings page, clicking on what I need and coming up with a different error message saying "code must be active in the editor to compile".
  3. I thank you for getting me the up to date version of Batari basic, but every time I click on conplile I get a settings page. Where do I go from there?
  4. Well that explains a lot because I got it from Tinkernut. Can anyone find a more up to date version?
  5. But how do I do that? I thought when I clicked on it to edit the code that was open in the editor?
  6. Every time I try to compile and run my work, it keeps saying "Code must be active in the editor to run in emulation" and I don't know what it means. Can anyone help me?
  7. I suppose that your tactic would help me out with the basics of Batari from a practical sence, but I wouldn't know what to make. Does anyone have suggestions for simpler games?
  8. Thank you bennybingo for you tutorial on Batari Basic. It will help me out ten-fold.
  9. Hello. This day is a rather big one for me, as I am about to start work on my first ever video game for the Atari 2600 called The Honourless war, an original turn based strategy game for the system. The only problem is that, seen as I haven't attempted anything like this before, I think I may require some guidance. Now I am not looking for programmers (I will be doing all that) or artists (My friend James will be doing the artwork for the manual, label, etc.) but I am looking for hints and tips about programming for the Atari 2600 for the first time, as well as creating a bank-switched cartridge, creating an Atari Vox and how to get my game published by Atari Age. If have any pearls of wisdom for me, please write a reply. If you to find out what I want to do, however, then prepare to read over 3 pages worth of ideas and features. Introduction It all started, well, no one can remember when. But the events that led up to this mess are engraved on the minds of everyone, from the youngest soldier to the oldest corpse. In the beginning there was peace between two nations, Arovia and Yoxcn. They were good friends, respectful of each other’s land, helpful to each other’s problems, hopeful about each other’s future. But each had an ally that despised each other. For Arovia, this was Acorea, ruled by its army with an iron fist and a heart of steel. For Yoxcn, this was Yovor, a land ruled by chaos for as long as it stood. It was only a matter of time before these two vile nations declared war on each other, and so, one day, they did. The war itself was long, bloody, painful, but manageable. For a time. Arovia and Yoxcn were forced to join. They would have been swallowed up by the armies of their allies if they hadn’t. Either that or by their foes, or the One with the Mark of Death, who is destined to bring destruction and chaos to the terrified, scorched lands of this sheathing, heart blackening world. It is with this fear in mind then, that the creation on the Immortal Maker is understandable. A potion, created by both Arovia and Yoxcn, that allows its drinker invulnerability to all, even the Scythe of Death himself, and so closely guarded a secret, that the only time there allies learned about it, it had already been used in battle. Probably because of this, Acorea and Yovor declared peace, a feat that, to this day, is without question. There peace is as strong as Arovia’s and Yoxcn’s was. Though each one is as corrupt as the other, they are of each other’s land, helpful to each other’s problems, full of worry about each other’s future. Yet despite this Arovia and Yoxcn are still at war. No one knows why. Some place the blame on outside influence, some the forgotten memories of their peace, others on not wanting to show weakness, but whatever is to blame one thing is clear. We are without hope, and they are without honour. Gameplay The Honourless war will be a turn based strategy with 4 sides to play as, each with 4 troops to command. These are the Arovian army, the Yoxcn army, a band of thieves called The None and the Zor family. Each side will have its own story mode (lasting around 3-5 missions) and each troop will be selectable in a multiplayer mode (with the upper limit, again, being 4). Furthermore each troop will belong to 1 of 3 weapon class, each having a different range. Swordsman will only have a range of 1 square, but generally have better stats, (such as strength, speed, defence, and so on). Polearms (such as spears, etc.) can only attack units that are 2-3 squares in front of them and have average stats. Ranged units have a range of 4-6 squares in front of them, and due to their low stats, play more of an assist role. Another thing to mention is that all units can initiate a hand to hand fight by landing in the same square as an opponent, with sidearm’s providing an edge in these confrontations, seen as the loser is moved off that square. Arovian army Commander: Jox the XV (15TH) Taken from his family and brainwashed into serving his country without question, Jox has quickly risen up the ranks to become one of The Arovian army’s most powerful and fearless warriors. However, after he had just destroyed his own city under the orders of his King (So a castle can be built there, he has just been given his ultimate test. Find the Zor family, and take their youngest daughter, Quol, who is said to be the One with the Mark of Death. If he is successful, he will be promoted to general, and drink the Immortal maker as a result, which is the only reason he took up this mission. If he can live forever, then his country will as well, who murdered his (as he sees it) stupid family and rise from the war victorious, righteous and world dominating. Weapon: An axe on the end of a chain with the crest of Arovia engraved into the blade. (Polearm) Troops Arovian knight: Fast and well armoured, but weak in combat. Magically mutated horse can carry an extra troop though (though it has to dismount before attacking). Weapon: Broadsword. (Sword) Arovian archer: Only troop that can attack from a distance (You can command as the Arovian’s). Though it can defend itself at close range, it is much weaker. Weapon: Bow and arrow & dagger. (Ranged and sidearm) Arovian spearman: Strong in combat, but possesses weak armour. Can use the spear to pole vault over gaps. (Maybe) Weapon: Long spear. (Polearm) Yoxcn army Commander: Zocron the C (50TH) Also taken from his family and brainwashed into serving his country without question, Zocron is a cunning, smart and manipulative commander, who has just risen to the rank of commander after being ordered to kill his own family, which he did brutally. Now, his latest task sees him take on his own city, Forosia, so a super castle can be built there. His method of victory, death by thirst. Invasion would play into the hands of the Arovian propaganda machine, and cause blood to get onto his freshly polished armour. Besides, the wells have already been drained, his army surrounds Forosia, and if successful, the Immortal maker awaits for the last man to fall inside, for the good of the country. Weapon: Shelko (Made up weapon) (Sword) Troops Yoxcn Crossbowman: Cannot defend itself up close, but its explosive arrows can push its opponents back. Weapon: Crossbow with explosive arrows. (Ranged) Yoxcn Billhooker: It attacks can be used to draw its opponents closer, where it is more powerful. Weapon: Billhook (Polearm) Yoxcn soldier: Possesses average stats, but can counter attack for 100% damage (as opposed to other troops 50%) Weapon: Mace (Sword) The None Commander: Varaso Founder and Leader of The None, Varaso is, in the eyes of his friends and foes, a mercenary, thief and criminal, in it for the money and without a care in the world. While this is true, the description hides his courage and quick thinking, although by whose hand his comrades die is a question left up to debate. It is this lust for gold, however, that has dragged him into this mess. A rich merchant under the name of Roth has paid him riches like he had never seen to turn the wells to Forosia back on, mainly due to the fact that his wife is trapped inside. And with the amount of gold ringing in his ears, his story begins. Weapon: A golden retractable sword, with a skeleton key embedded into the opposite side that can open any lock, no matter how strong. (Sword) Troops Yonkor: Joined The None for fame and power. Fast and manrovable, but possesses weak armour. Weapon: Grappling hook. (Polearm) Filoc: Joined The None for gold and riches. Strong armour, but weak in combat. Weapon: Flail (ball and chain) (Sword) Takori: Joined The None so he could train to become a mercenary himself. Strong in combat, but very slow. Weapon: Crows beak (This was an actual weapon during Medieval Europe, not an actual crow’s beak). (Sword) The Zor family Commander: Zafora Mother of two, Zafora is, although smart, not an expert warrior. Yet despite this, she has ended up in a situation that even the bravest warrior would dread. Being made a foe of Arovia, its army, and its people. The reason for this due to the (as she sees it) untrue rumours that her daughter, Quol, is the One with the Mark of Death, and as a result, destined to bring destruction and chaos to the world. As a result she, and her family, is fleeing Arovia to the neutral country of Yovor, where, hopefully, they will be safe from persecution under the protecting hand of its army. However, it is a long way to go, and Arovia is watching each step they make... Weapon: Ahlspiess (This was an actual weapon used in Medieval Germany) (Polearm) Troops Quol: Only 5 years old, completely unarmed and blind to her own fate, her only blessing is the fear other troops have for her, which is so strong they can’t move anywhere near her. Weapon: The Mark of Death (Unarmed) Wuolv: Farther of the family, and the only person in it with combat training, as he used to work for the local militia. His weak amour counteracts his speed and strength. Weapon: Godendag (This was an actual weapon as well, used often by peasants) (Polearm) Bocoroc: 18 years old, son of Zafora and brother to Quol, is a master at surprise, due to the tricks he played on his friends at school. His long range attacks can cause poison damage that lasts for four turns, but can’t defend himself at close range. Weapon: Blowgun. (Ranged) Well what do you think?
