TOS 1.04 US 2 Chip 28 pin Available (New Old Stock)
SoulBuster replied to SoulBuster's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Yea a little high, until you absolutely need one. I am sure they are not as plentiful anymore, so the price should go up. Supply and Demand, simple principles of economy. -

A tweety board would be useful with that monitor. I have one, but not external like the link shows. Mine is internal. The RCA Jacks are routed to the outside near one of the ports that has a gap big enough to allow the ribbon cable through. http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/30773/Tweety Board/

ST Reset Switches wanted in USA
SoulBuster replied to KLund1's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Bruce is a really cool guy. He will help you out with either a new one or a used one. He offered a new or a used case when I needed to replace my broken STM case. I live a few miles from him and he brought it to me as he was in The Orangevale Area anyway, where I live. -
You are not required to understand or like what one does for them to enjoy their system. It is no more complicated of a train of adapters than plugging in Mega File 44. ASCI -> Atari SCSI Board -> HD along with SCSI2SD as a second HD. Same train of adapters. Not complicated at all. It is not just a name! But I will not get into the religious connotations as this is not the forum for that. If you would like to discuss it in a religious forum, pick one. I'll join you there. As far as The designer, fake goods and charity organizations. I have no idea what your point is there.

You are correct, you will need an AdSCSI, Link, Link97, Link II or some other ASCI to SCSI interface it you are not attaching it to a Falcon or TT, like this one here. The fact is, it IS a viable alternative to avoid that name. The Mega File 44's I have updated have the ACSI to SCSI interface, one is Atari's and the other is an AdSCSI. I do not require you to understand why I do not want that name in my house.

You can change the name of the device in it's configuration to remove that name, but it is printed on the PCB. I do not own one and will not just because of the name. There is an alternative. The SCSI2SD device made by Michael McMaster. http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=SCSI2SD I recently installed two of them along side of 2 Mega File 44s. You can read about it here. They are installed and work great.

A real floppy is an easy solution and may be necessary for almost anything you try. Once you have a floppy, then you can install drivers for a Hard Drive. Once you have that you can use this program to load Floppy images using your Atari from the hard drive. http://www.8bitchip.info/atari/imgrun.php

I have three of them. 2 are set up with a "Second Hard Drive". The second hard drive is actually a SCSI to SD adapter. I detailed them here. I plan to do the same for the 3rd one.

I find them to be reliable, one you get a clean format on them. I have 75 of the disks that I bought used over time. I format them and ignore the bad sector table so it can recreate it. Sometimes they have to be formatted more than once. Out of receiving 75 used over the years, I have only tossed 3 out. These three were bad not because of use, but rather I could not format them no matter how many times I tried. I have not yet seen one go bad due to everyday use.

I bought two of Short STs recently. I bought them only because they were really inexpensive. I am currently upgrading them with TOS 1.04 and 4 MB of memory. One had a broken top case, but I found a New Old Stock (NOS) case to replace it with. Do you have a floppy drive for yours? It can take a minute or two to boot instead of seconds without one, but it will eventually boot.

TOS 1.04 US 2 Chip 28 pin Available (New Old Stock)
SoulBuster replied to SoulBuster's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I get why it looks expensive. I have noticed that items for sale in the EU, to me, are less expensive than here in the states. That could be why it looks more expensive to those purchasing your ROMS from the EU. I had thought about making purchases for the less expensive items from the EU, but then changing it over to a US power supply makes them about the same price between the two. So I just look for stuff in the US. When I said modified 32 pin eproms: I have seen the upgrades to be able to use the 32pin eproms to make them work. Bent pins, soldering wires, etc. These just plug in and done. I bought the 2 chip set for a NOS Mega 4 motherboard. The old board did not boot (probably a memory problem, stacked chips) and had 6 TOS chips. When I got the new board, it was already set for 2 chips, so the search began. I could have soldered in 4 additional socket and converted it back to 6 chips, but I thought I would just go with the 2 chips, if I could find them. In any case, I did not want to use the 32 pin chip upgrade. Not that I could not make the mod, but preferred not to. BTW got those 2 chips last night at a meet up with Bruce from B&C Computervisions, plugged them in and the Mega 4 is now completed and running. You may or may not know this: Bruce told me the story behind why Atari changed TOS 1.4 to 1.04. When the STE came out it had TOS 1.6, then a version update to 1.62. Atari decided since there were two digits after the decimal point there should be two digits on TOS 1.4, so they changed it to 1.04 to conform with the new versioning they were using. -
What's the Latest Atari Item You Bought
SoulBuster replied to dungeonmaster's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
An additional Short ST with a tweety board in working order. Top case was cracked. Replacement Case for the above (NOS) An SF354 not working Mega ST Motherboard (NOS) 3 sets of TOS 1.04 6 chips (Atari originals NOS) for the Short STs and one STF. The short STs are probably TOS 1.0 and Sysinfo would not run on them. The STF had 1.02. 1 set of TOS 1.04 2 chips 28 pins (Atari originals NOS) Floppy Power Supply with Male connector (all that I had were female) 3 4MB upgrades for the two Short STs and an STF including witcdhes to go from 4MB to 1MB. -
you can find more information here https://lotharek.pl/ under Atari 16-bit.

TOS 1.04 US 2 Chip 28 pin Available (New Old Stock)
SoulBuster replied to SoulBuster's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Reasons to buy it 1. New Old Stock from Atari OEM 2. 28 Pin ROMS, not modified 32 pin Eproms. 3. Most people do not have an eprom burner. To me, $40 is worth it. Brad Koda from Best wants $60. It is a good price as the 28 pin eproms of any size are getting harder to find.
