  1. Cool.

I was able to compile the working rom.

For some reason my system doesn't recognize "make". But what I did was enter the make lines you listed above line by line into the command prompt and after it completed each step it worked.

Thank you so much. I now need to try and convert a music file of my own into your demo and see if I can do that step.

  2. Thanks again. I'm trying it. No luck so far though. I'm getting his message when I try to compile using scdd 3.4

Try to link project : snddemo
    Multiple definition of gsinit
    C:\Documents and Settings\gerry\Desktop\coleco compiler\snddemo>sdcc -mz80 --code-loc 0x8024 --data-loc 0x7000 --no-std-crt0 ../crtcv.rel ../cvlib.lib ../getput.lib ../comp.lib crt0.rel main.rel music.rel player.rel

    C:\Documents and Settings\gerry\Desktop\coleco compiler\snddemo>objcopy --input-target=ihex --output-target=binary crtcv.ihx result.rom

  3. I can't get anywhere with this unfortunately. I got it to compile but I just get an unuseable rom.

Is there a simple c file setup including all necessary files in one directory and a sample music clip that I can compile in SDCC 3.4. Once I can get a working basic file I can figure it out from there.

  4. That sucks, I bought Alcazar & Spy Hunter & Boulderdash & james bond back in the 80's via mail order. I think I paid like $70-80 for all 4. That was a fun week/month after I got that delivery

I actually like james bond. Finsihed it several times. ALcazar. Was really great for the time. Unless you had a c64 there wasn't much else comparable on the game systems.

Of course I still have them. Should have bought more.

  5. Here is the updated artwork

War front of box (c) 2014 Gerry Brophy

Another great update digress and thanks for sharing this with us as it's been fun watching the game progress over the last couple months.

The box looks very nice as well, but the positioning of the yellow Coleco explosion info splash is really throwing things off for me considering it has always been placed at the bottom-left corner by Coleco as well as Homebrewers. I understand the reasoning so as not to cover up any of the artwork of the box, but what about using the "For ColecoVision & ADAM Computer" diagonal info bar on the bottom-right... this way you won't have an oddly positioned yellow Coleco explosion info splash and with the diaginal info bar, there won't be much of any box artwork covered up.

Good Luck with copleting the game.

  6. Thanks, That's a good suggestion. I did have it in the bottom left as you mentioned but it was too overwhelming.

I did the illustration before putting it into the layout to see how things overlaid and it was not ideal. I'll try the strip and show you the update.

  7. Yes actually. I fix one thing and then new glitches show up. I feel like I'm House M.D.

Time pilot is great. Always liked that game . Played it to death. .. or is it played it til death usually my own planes.

Main problem I'm having now is memory as I'm basically at 32K rom size . I'm trying to improve things but I have to make other things more efficient in order to make room.

Learned so much from this . If I make a second game I'm sure there are many mistakes I'll not make twice. Too far along now to start over though.

Weird problems like sprite 0,1,2 & 3 would disappear from time to time. I had to use higher sprite numbers to stop the problem.

Ah, so the glitches are now glitchier? :D

    Nice work, dude!

AWESOME Gerry!! I won't be be worth a darn at it, BUT I live the action. Time Pilot has the same action type and I get all turned around and miss shooting the planes, but I love that game too. Great job, keep at it and finish it up, it will be a great game ! :)

  8. Thanks, I've been using that. It's a great help.

Still it would be ideal to have a visual composer like video tunes. Which I actually tried using but it doesn't support for full range of available notes that are really available and I would need to figure out a way to out put to a usuable code.

Newcoleco put out a program called, cvnotes.exe. It has rows of button with the musical notes. It has box that provide the bytes for that note. I really need to try and find that thread on this program. This is what I use to sequence music and sound effects.

    Found it: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/139854-cv-notes-tool-to-somehow-help-coding-notes/

  9. I looked through the video. I played it back in the 80's too. I see no reason why this can't be done exactly on colecovision and with better graphics than this C64 version so I don't think the designer will much problems limitations wise.

There are 36 characters on the screen with 2 colours each but only 2 of these are animating at any one time and the rest can be just tiles.

and the battle scene the characters are 1 colour plus 1 projectile each so it won't break the 4 sprites per line rule.

This is entirely possible on colecovision

It's going to turn out great I have no doubt.

    Bill,

it's a bit too early to think details. We hope - in this preliminary stage of development - that it will resemble Archon I at all ;) Seriously, considering the ColecoVision's limitations compared to the C64 and Atari XL/XE the developer has his hands full to do.

  10. Hi, I ordered a copy of Astro Dodge last year and it's really well done. Very nice graphics and sound effects.

Tell us some more about 'Shifted' and possible a screen shot or video. Thanks

    Hi Guys,

For those interested, i still have a number of copies (both Coleco/US and CBS/PAL style) available! PM me or email me at sales (at) revival-studios.com to aquire your copy.

For those interested in new releases for the Colecovision, please be a little more patient. Since i write my own stuff instead of 'borrowing' copyrighted MSX games these take a little more time to produce :P

I hope to have my next game 'Shifted' out this summer.

    Kind regards,

  11. that's funny that's exactly my thought. I was programming a tank slowdown routine til 2 am this morning. will be in the next iteration. I might even put a bit of shake to the tank when it comes to a stop are first starts. we'll see I'm almost out of room

    -tank slowdown

-I might put in reverse as well. not sure yet.

-I added a smoke effect that blows away after firing

-I had 3 hit points to kill a tank but it wasn't fun that way. 1 hit ,1 kill keeps you on your toes

planes are too fast too but there are 2 speeds for them if someone has trouble they can just keep it in slow.

working on the music a bit today.

    Great preview

but as being in the military a have drove a tank, I feel the speed is a bit fast for the tank movement.

But what do I know, the game itself looks awesome.

Here is a micro update to show the tank is now more 3d looking in profile view.

Great stuff - this looks fantastic. PM sent.

One suggestion: in my opinion it would look nicer when the tank is also three dimensional when facing left/right horizontally.

    Looks really good, digress! :)

I do have one tiny comment to make: When the tank is facing left or right, it is displayed as a 2D image, but in any other direction, it is displayed as a 3D image. That looks a little weird in terms of animation.

Looks better and better each updates!

  14. To me it's bizarre that these have become difficult to sell. I use my original modded xbox more than any other system... because it emulates so many other systems.

    It plays dvd's

it plays streaming video from your computer

It can provide streaming video to your computer

It plays NES, TG16, Atari, Colecovision, Sierra adventure games, Mame on and on. Sega... super nes... etc.

It can even play PS1 games

    It also plays music

It also has 4 built in ports for 4 player games (dungeons & dragons heros is 4 players simulataneously)

    It plays Halo & Halo2

It plays copied/backup up xbox games

It can install the game straight to the harddrive

You can hook up a usb mouse & keyboard to it to play sierra adventure games.

Beyond awesome. Plus the one you are selling has an upgraded 80 gig drive and is already softmodded and comes with a working controller & the av/power cables.

Somebody buy this , you will not be sorry.

  15. its a fact that not many girls played the retro games much. I'm sure there's a few. But as a hobby I'd say even less so when it comes in my house it's my time away from the wife... plus anytime I start speaking logically.

Although She did get hooked on jewel panic one day on the colecovision.

Colecovision.com - would be my ideal. Easy to find and easy for new people to find. Doesn't seem to be available though.
