  1. My copy of Laser Gates is dead, It will not boot up no matter how much I clean it or what system I try it on. I had this as a kid back in the day it was a blast to play then and it still it today. There is an Atari computer version with better graphics. Sleeper hit for sure, but all iMagic games were pretty top quality sad that they were short lived after the new gen systems came to light I would have loved to see what they could have done with the NES platform.
  2. I liked the game for its complex level design and challenge, Also the When you die music always crackes me up no matter what system it was on. Accroding to Wikipedia for those wanting a console version of the arcade; An emulated version of the original arcade release is featured as an unlockable in the PlayStation Portable version of the Sega Genesis Collection (Sega Mega Drive Collection in PAL regions). This version was also featured in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection in PAL regions) for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Recently, an enhanced remake was released for the PlayStation 2 under the Sega Ages label as Sega Ages 2500 Vol 23: Sega Memorial Collection.
  3. Awesome news and great progress! Also for the 5200 engine demo, that is very impressive to say the least. Folks today are making these machines do things that they were never intended to do or had VERY high limitations due to tools and education. Whenever I see a demo like that or someone taking a SID or POKEY Chip and making it do things well beyond what it was meant for is a feat of ingenuity.Just like this SMB 2600 port. This is a technical feat although it is using more resources then the normal VCS cart it is still damn amazing that it working and able to be played on real hardware. Not trying to point any fingers or start a fire but it really bothers me when someone say's a technical demo or a homebrew made program that is doing above and beyond what it should be gets called on being dumb or lame or fail or crap. Being that I have worked in the game industry for many of years and do my own tinkering on the side I do not think any custom made demo/game/program showing off skills is bad rather it is polished or not! Just go to the 7800 forum and look at Bentley Bear and UN Squadron, These are doing WELL more than what the 7800 was ever expected to do, especially Bentley Bear as it is playing and running. /off the soap box. Again this is a real treat to see, I like others cannot wait to see the final product and all the fun in between, take your time and do not rush anything!
  4. I have not noticed washed out colors on the 2600 portion in either of my revisions on my 7800's. BUT As far as 7800 games go there is a drastic color difference between the two systems, One looks normal the other one (new revision) has a slight green hue going on. Oh and I play my 2600 games on my Colecovision with the 2600 expantion and they look great I do have a few 2600 jr's and a heavy sixer and a Coleco Gemini and the colors all display nice and crisp on those too. Could be that your 7800 has some old parts that are on their way out and failing, I know when my Turbo Duo was needing a cap job done the colors and sound was all kinds of messed up and once it was fixed it looked better then it did before, probably due to the caps being dried up or almost dried out.
  5. Yes, I bought an untested 400 for cheap so we will see if this unit works or start swapping parts between the two!
  6. My 400 has 3 boards o Inside, the main board, CPU and 16k ram boards.
  7. Thank you for the offer, that would be very cool of you if I was a local!
  8. I did that for the main CPU board chips and a few of the RAM chips. They were already pretty set in. I got another unit on its way to me that is untested so maybe I can Frank the 2 together and make one working unit.
  9. Confirmed, I managed to snag the last 3 out of 13 stores on the eastside Seattle area. 9.99 is a good deal regardless of the small issues.
  10. I had a new in box one that I tested before putting it away and it worked great, a year or so later it does not move up or down anymore just left and right. I took it apart to see if maybe it got dust or something in the way of the spinwheel but it was clean as a whistle! Super bummed as I wanted to play some Missle Command old school style since my Joysticks are not working correctly.
  11. Tried all the suggested techniques to see if I can fire it up but I got nothing. Something tells me that either the RAM board is bad and causing the CPU to Error halt or the CPU Board itself is shot. It almost appears as if there is a logo screen then it shifts over to the program/cart. I also cleaned the pins for the boards as well (they were gold plated not the tin plated set). It goes from a solid black screen then after a few seconds the screen goes to a dark grey then solid green, When these pop up local they are pretty cheap I might snag another one and swap daughter boards out and see. Thanks for the suggestions!
  12. No love for Crossbow or Tower Toppler?! I will back up the, Commando, Xenophobe, Double Dragon (with the 7800 nes pad controller, using the original stick will cause you to go insane!), Ballblazer and Ikari Warriors. Obvious games, DK, DKjr, Mario Bros, Mr Pac-man, Desert Falcon, Jinx, Fast Food, One on One (yes this is fun), Title Match Wrestling, Meltdown and Crack'd.
  13. Very nice work, you have definatly captured the trademark Capcom sounds with Pokey in my opinion, Sounds just as good as Commando. Nice work indeed, I am still learning Famitracker myself!
  14. I did pull the CPU and RAM boards out but I did not clean the contacts, I will try that.
  15. I get nothing on the screen but what was discribed above, I will tear into it again when i get a little more time I need to invest in a chip puller
  16. But yours play's this one does not. I also aquired an Atari 400 computer that is doing something very close to what my 2 port is doing. lol maybe I am cursed to not own the 8bit Atari family
  17. Hey all! I recently picked up another great Atari lot off my local craigslist, The lot consisted of, 1 Heavy Sixer, 14 2600 games and 1 Atari 400 with all the docs, 410 Tape drive, 4 games for the price of a supersized big mac meal. Anyway, I tested the 2600 and games it all worked great, excited to play the 400 I tested that one last so that I can spend the most time playing it, I got it all hooked up and turned it on with Pac-Man in the slot and nothing the screen was showing a what appeared to be a solid black (probably brown since it was on my LED display) with a grey line on the right side. After about 10-15 seconds the colors shift to a green backdrop and flickering bars of color popping in and out of the display (no game play no audio). I took it apart to see if maybe something came loose but all the chips looked well seated, the CPU and Ram boards were also well seated too, this appears to have the same issues as a 2 port 5200 I picked up a month or so prior. Is this worth fixing or should I just wait for another working unit and use this one for parts? Also I have a lead on a 1200xl with floppy drive, do the 1200's play the same carts/disks as the 400/800? Thanks!
  18. Commando Xenophobe (just wish they would have done pokey music on this title!) Dig Dug Crossbow Robotron Ballblazer (mostly for the music) Are a few that frequent my 7800 Honorable mentions Impossible Mission (yes i know its impossbile, still fun to play) Jinxs Ikari Warriors Desert Falcon Meltdown
  19. Maybe I will try to replace that as well, Anyone know were I can get a new ANTIC?
  20. I started on some of that toubleshooting with the field manual, it appears some of those tests require a diag cart wich I do not have. Projects are fun! If I cannot get it working maybe I will farm it out to someone who had more repair skills then me! Any takers?! Like I said I have 2 working 4 ports just no 100% working controllers! lol I want to play some HERO, M-Revenge and Star Wars Arcade! -j
  21. I am assuming there are service manuals on this site? I am pretty new here and I havent gone exploring yet so excuse my spoon feed noobness Not to worried about spending 20 bucks on the ram and bios if anything if this unit is dead in the water I will have back up ram for my 2 4 ports. One other thing I forgot to mention. When I fire it up sometimes a solid line appears on the screen and occasonally if the screen is green it will shift to brown if on for more then a few seconds.
  22. So I got my new ram and bios in this evening and after replacing the old ram/bios I am still getting a green/brown screen, Here is a photo of the board with the replacement parts. Did I get the ram installed correctly? Also I noticed one of the larger chips had a prong that looked like it was left sticking out was this something that was done by atari? According to the MB8118-12 spec sheet I have the ram chips in correctly so I am not sure what is going on with it. Photos
  23. I think we talked about this a month or so ago via PM about you telling me to email you at and you will add me, I probably have done so but I will do it one more time to be sure that I do not miss out on a chance to get this game Thanks!
