  1. hi, y'all, it looks like you're all having a lot of success getting your scores posted !!

I sure wish I knew how you're doing it !

hs.com keeps telling me that my image shack page is an invalid URL

I haven't had any luck uploading to the other ones but image shack HAS allowed me to upload.

is there anyone here who can tell me how you're getting your scores posted ??

I would very much appreciate & would love to participate in this it looks like lots of fun...

  2. WHAT A GREAT GAME !!! Cheers to the maker/s of Lady Bug, holy crap!

This is getting my vote for best arcade conversion to the 26!

I thought I liked Lady Bug before, but now I am thoroughly hooked...

I'm also much more interested in home brews now :-D

I love how the programmer/s cater to my impatience

allowing me to hit the button to skip through the level intros

and also to skip to the game straight from the "game over"

no need to reach for reset, no need to feel like I have a moment to hit the toilet or get a bite to eat...

  3. Centipede 178430

    post-34560-0-69206100-1378771176_thumb.jpg

    only a small improvement ...

    no more Starcraft !

Ps could someone PLEASE give me tips? (Cough cough gsampson)

    I want to second gsampson's tips #s 1-4.

as far as 5 & 6 I play a little different, when the centipede segments get to the bottom & start multiplying (actually any time they are low on the screen) I stop holding down the button and start picking them off with timely shots. I thought that was essential but now I see you can do it with non-stop rapid-firing as well

the other thing I do is leave my shooter in the center where it starts out, pushing up & only moving out of position to dodge spiders or what-not, and to clear away low mushrooms (which is actually quite a bit of dodging around). that way when you get the funnel built it is not over by the edge of the screen where the spider can come in and "cheap-shot" you unexpectedly.

Centipede is one of my all-time favorite 2600 games! I think it may be the best carry-over from an arcade game to 2600 (Qbert also comes to mind). Millipede is great too but for some reason I keep deciding I like Centipede better.

I really like Spiderdroid too! It seems to succeed better than Amidar with the thematic appeal of spiders flies & birds, then robot droids hunting skulls. That kicks ass over the ape & a painter & stuff in Amidar. I also had Pepper II in mind, I kept expecting the segments to "unzip" when I went back over them. Pepper II is a really fun game & fast-paced.

in Spiderdroid, watch their patterns. they always turn when they have a chance (except the border patrol guy) & only move to your area in a general way. watch where thy are going to turn & run horizontally (a lot) to get out of the way. or wait for them to pass by. they never chase you like pac-man ghosts, so don't be afraid to wait right next to them as they turn & go up or down right past you.

you can't decide on a pattern and then go do it, you have to keep changing where you're going. however, you can get an opening pattern for each speed level which will work the same each time. if you can die only once each board, the game will go on forever! easier said than done of course, but I find that encouraging...

    post-34560-0-98261300-1378074398_thumb.jpg

Spiderdroid 15633 suddenly lost my concentration & died twice! i should be able to get a lot more

    post-34560-0-69500900-1378074385_thumb.png

Thank you SO much Vocelli for not making us play Bugs!!!

Spiderdroid - running horizontally has helped me a lot

i also quit spider fighter, thinking there might be a cap. now I can play more spider fighter!

question I am playing with the difficulty switches on B

but I don't think that is the expert side! I'm using a 4-switch woodgrain Taiwan orange trim model

the instruction manuals I looked at say A means expert

so i hope i'm playing with the right setting

also... i don't know if Amidar scores count for Spiderdroid, but I could use real hardware if so... can I do that?

finally got it figured out! wow i was having a really hard time with this one

I had one game that would have got me 76K+ but I got robbed right as the bomb was about to hit:

    RATTS !!!

I wanted to recommend some music for playing Sub-Scan:

    Chykka Larva.mp3

    It's from Metroid Prime 2

when i got this music going I was suddenly having a lot more fun with this game and my score jumped up from 14K to 39K, then to 66K

give it a try, music can make a big difference

  6. I'm new to this game, although I did play it for about 30 seconds once.

it does have a cheap appearance at first but

thanks to the radar map at the bottom, it seems like a pretty good game to me

    played one game last night:

    7330
    post-34560-0-35362700-1377465000_thumb.jpg

also i gotta say, even when we play a game i don't like and it's truly bad (like coconuts)

it's still fun to compete at a crappy game I never played before

and coconuts was fun to joke about

also it helps me give each of my games a chance so I can explore my collection!!

one of my inspirations that kick started me into a retro-gaming attack was Dr. Sparkle's Chrontendo episodes -- If you like NES and haven't seen his videos, check it out, I had a two-week all day krakk-fest watching those when I first found it. Now that guy knows how to have fun with a cheap game!

  7. thanks Jibbajaba!

that waas crazy those last few games I happened to have krakked out on growing up!

I think I might 'a got a little lucky there toward the end

looking forward to the next season !!!

    Thanks for the tips S.BAZ.

Is this what you're thinking of? http://strategywiki....rew/Walkthrough

    yup thats it!

that chart proves itself true if you test it out

this game kicks ass because you can krakk out on mapping out all the 1ups & hammers and that would take you a month or two.

then you can actually try to attack and see if you can beat it on a credit.

    that would take you what?

    6months?

    7?

  8. Venture: 21500 (+3 bonus for 3 single dragon slayings)

    post-34560-0-60786300-1377191058_thumb.jpgpost-34560-0-19523400-1377191045_thumb.jpgpost-34560-0-08392900-1377191018_thumb.jpgpost-34560-0-15011700-1377191031_thumb.jpg

    I finally got a camera folks !

I have not yet succeeded in getting the dragon corpses together, but I think I'm on to something...

good idea Vocelli, putting Adventure in with this one. funny I hadn't really played either of these but you are right, it is better than Venture! I had got a bad impression about this game for some reason but surprisingly I'm enjoying it very much. I really get a kick out of that bat

I'm not too impressed with Venture but I have to say I'm enjoying working on improvements and I like it better than Time Warp or Coco Nuts or Wabbit or Commando Raid (which is a decent game I know but I don't enjoy it!). I don't like how unresponsive Venture is when I try to turn around and shoot. It doesn't handle so well like Berzerk.

I do like when my dot gets faster though. and i like the Griffons.

    a couple tips:

*as the manual says, max out the score for a room by saving enemies until after you get the treasure

BUT, when it gets difficult (for me that means the second blue map, or "Level 2b"), change it up and shoot to kill whenever their movements are not looking favorable, so you can at least survive and get some points. I kept dying trying to always max the points, and got no further than 14k.

*also, don't forget you can run out of a room at any time, so if you're not making it to the treasure quickly, just run out & go back in! shooting everything in your way! (they'll be back when you come back in so you wont lose points) that will save you a lot of deaths by the "evil otto" ghost-thing.

I was out walking yesterday when I thought of these two strategies, and when I got home I got my new score.

  9. S.Baz, if you make it to PRGE this year, we will have to have a live Towering Inferno showdown with Toymailman!

OK that sounds great!! I am trying to make it, it looks like I will have to work but we will see. It is not far from me & I am really hoping to make it to that!!

    TOWERING INFERNO 3474

i am really sorry i don't have a pic I turned the ATARI off !

i made it to floor 9 of Tower 4

2 times i have finished the 3rd building

but usually the 9th floor is pretty much impossible

so it's all about making it to the top of building 3 as often as possible

i have a much greater appreciation for this game now

i think this may be the best US Games / VidTec game

one thing i have noticed: you can pay attention to where the flames / groups of flames go: they go in a limited range left to right.

if you can see where the range of where they have gone left, and where they have gone right, you can get a pretty good idea where the middle of that is at, and it seems like they will crave to get back to that middle point. -- i feel like i can tell where they are going to go sometimes !! I have been amazed sometimes when i feel like i can make a run for it and it works, but then i knew it ! they want to get back to their center point.

one more tip: if you think you can clear the whole room, don't waste any time hitting the white box !!

since the humans will be safe as soon as you finish off the flames, you may actually save 25 pts by skipping the box until after flames are clear so forget about white box unless you have to walk by it anyway, or you're running out without finishing

    (floor 9, 3rd tower)

I played Towering Inferno a lot back in the day & I did not have a good opinion of it, but once again the hsc has turned my opinion around & I'm already liking it. I still don't like Commando Raid though.

    a couple points of advise:

    1. get the 30pts bonus for clearing a room of flames, which also relieves the humans from dying while you get out

    2. keep in mind the top floor (9) burns the humans to death fast! so I try to remember to take one side of the room & get in & out fast, not bothering to clear the room. this may seem obvious, but since I got in the habit of clearing rooms it's easy to forget I'm getting close to the top of a building. then I realize it's too late & game over.

I've been trashing out with some hardcore bruisers lately! There's a seedy club in a greasy alley back in Double Dragon... the boys here have been feeding me vodka and clobbering the hell out of each other! Sometimes they let me join in the fun and in the last couple of weeks we have DESTROYED this place... it's called Backstreet Beatdown!!! and Billy & Jimmy are retro-gamers, so what else could I ask for? I've hardly left the place in weeks...

(the gals here are pretty tough too)

I wanted to also say hats off to everyone for last round, that was hardcore!

also cheers to Gorfy, Lid & Northcoast for those Time Warp scores...

    Hardcore!

  11. If you get stuck in a barrel or somewhere else on the board is there anything else you can do besides besides reset the game?

you can wait for the fireball to come through and kill you if you're not in a barrel.

at least then you can keep playing if you have more lives

that's one of the two complaints I have. getting stuck in a barrel ends your game! I think you should just lose a life.

also I wish the round # was displayed while you're playing!

I found some very helpful information about this game which tells you how to get lots of 1ups and bonus points and Magic Hammers, etc. It is not even nearly complete, but at least the information for how to figure it out is there!

    http://www.gamefaqs....crew/faqs/27963

also, the author of the above faq apparently doesn't know it, but the formula for getting the bonus items is much simpler than described:

    1) find the bomb that has it

    2) make sure that is the 3rd bomb detonated

    3) if you care which item comes up, count how many times you have swung the hammer

if the phase # plus total number of times you swung the hammer (including the swing that kills the 3rd bomb) = 9 or (9 + any multiple of eight) you will get a golden hammer.

other than that any other sequences of breaking things, etc., don't factor in at all.

the formula is: (Phase #) + (# of hammer swings) divided by 8.

the remainder will be a number from 0-7

each # from 0-7 corresponds to a particular bonus item.

you can find a chart for it, i saw it but i can't seem to locate it right now.

but the 1 is the Golden Hammer which is all I care about because it empowers you and gives you the max bonus points.

I have an improvement, but forgot the pic & the exact number so I'll post it soon

just to warn y'all it is above 250K

I'll get back to ya's with a pic...

Just got to phase 15 for the 1st time

trying to figure out how to get more points

I saw a "cat" rise out of the ground on the first screen, but I died before getting to it

    it looked like bonus points

also I haven't been able to hammer the wrench-guys yet, the instruction manual seems to suggest that will pay bonus points
