surprised myself & also rolled 1st game: 109,875
had 0 lives at 8000pts never played the guided bullets before
but they are actually easier to use
[ok editing here. my roommate yanked out the cartridge before I could get my pic so I played it again.
it's only 99K but I was sick of playing & thumb hurt & had stuff to do, as soon as I saw 98K I was done.]

awesome voc, now you got me scrambling again
90K with 2 pigs... that's a big head start at raising the scoring per brick!
i've been hoping to get 100K on the 1st 2 pigs. (about 70 is my top) i remember on my best run how fast the score was climbing after that.
i'm also thinking now that i would have definitely liked Oink growing up

amazing how one can just keep getting better... I keep thinking I'm starting to level off, then I get more skill.
now I'm getting better at dodging the wolf's shots
i found if you can keep him held off long enough over a big hole, he starts to get kind of confused as to where to attack & it starts getting spread out (the damage). which means 3 or 4 places along the roof for rapid-fire brick-throwing.
p.s. I got over 80K with the last pig
my best first pig so far was 29K

ok so do I need to adjust dipswitch settings? I have 4 lives but I'm actually getting bonus lives every 20K, just like at the arcade.

... scared the hell out of me when I went to get the phone, and came back to a black screen. But a giggle of the joystick, and you should be good to go. GREAT SCORES ALL!!!!!! THE BAR IS VERY HIGH THIS SEASON!!!!!
Anyone know the Twin Galaxies records on this one, since they changed format I can't find them anymore.
thanks craftsmanMike, I'll try that next time.
i saw the Twin Galaxies "Oink" page: http://scoreboard.twingalaxies.com/operator.php?gameid=2781&platformid=5&variationid=3824
999,999 Todd Rogers & David Yancey
188,240 Alan Hewston
63,072 James Randall ...
it looks like we're rockin' pretty hard ! Vocelli -- I knew I was gonna see a score like that as soon as you mentioned "20K 1st pig." whenever I do that, I think I'm gonna get 100K, but like you said you have to have a good run all 3 pigs
i have to also 2nd what aftermac said, there's nothing like HSC to get me crakking out on a game I wouldn't have played otherwise... I actually put Oink in one time, played a little and thought it was a crappy game, never touched it again ! now I've gotten hooked and appreciate the game much better... I'll be scramblin'

thanks Gorfy & Liduario83,240
tips i'm using:
as soon as the bricks reappear, dump as many as possible quickly to the center of the area with most holes.
then I work outward, grabbing toward L or R, dumping toward center of holes. maybe you all know this already, but once I got the hang of grabbing one way & dumping the other (quickly) my score jumped by about 30K. after grabbing a brick, hold the button, turn & release button. you can do it really fast, dumping more bricks toward the center of the holes, while running away from the center.
hand durability tip:
I use right hand pointer finger to rapid-fire bricks whenever I get a chance to stand in one place under bricks & over holes! it happens often and gives the L thumb a break at the most button-mashingest parts

i left the game on to wait for the camera, but when I came back the screen had gone black...
improvement w/ pic pending...

yikes!!
not improving my score
the funny menacing tunes do bounce around in my head though.
at least that's a plus.
only a few hours left...
I have found out something though. you can make it to run 20 by going through the double up arrow door in run 18, I was mistaken. I don't know how to do it but I have done it now. I suspect this may be true for Run 19 as well.
I wrote a song:
" got a ninja on my trail...
back from death & into hell...
spawn in a pool of zots, crap.
bonus lives are sparse, rats. "

wow nice Northcoast!
so I guess you must be that guy with the 511K score on the Retrocade scoreboard ?
I think you're the only one to ever roll Tunnel Runner so far in the HSC, congratulations
I'm just hoping I can break 30K by tomorrow

i saw my score just before losing my last life, it was just above 166K
I have a couple of questions --
1. when you lose your last life, it immediately goes to the game over screen which does not display the score. I did not see how to get the score to display, other than getting the pic before dying! - ??
2. this game does not give you a timer, so you can farm soldiers endlessly for an infinite score by going back & forth killing the same enemies repeatedly.
I'm sure this is obviously not allowed, but I always relied on some "grinding" for hearts and/or weapons in order to survive a boss or something. but i know it is possible to make it through without any of that. (the Twin Galaxies leader has beat the Joker in 15min.) it would just take more memorizing
I checked TG; they don't have any Batman score competition! found nothing elswhere either so far
so... is farming allowed for hearts &/or weapons?
or... is it no grinding whatsoever ?
(to jblenkle --- you can hit select to pause & see your score)

well I was wrong about that marathon idea. once the handicap gets built all the way up, it's just a matter of 1-3 rounds for me before I get a "bad draw" of pills.
but I just need more skills...
i did have one improvement but forgot to post in time!

don't have a pic yet
found out you get an extra life at 15K
also found out the double up arrow doors in Runs 18 & 19 both take you back to the beginning of Run 18! don't know about runs 20 & up, but i can't recommend the double door in run 18 or 19. Also this is the first run where I've noticed zots going through walls.
it did give me some practice at Run 18, the key is at the far upper left. don't get trapped at bottom right, avoid teleport unless Zots are far from bottom right

well that sounds exciting Liduario, & welcome shinobiedo !! I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes. you two might make a killing here since you are also competing as brothers! HA HA not that you needed the help Lid, you're already a total badass
a little tip for Tunnel Runner !! -- I've found a spot where the cb Cb door often appears from Run 10 onward:
......... .........
. . .
..........................
.
... ....................
. . .
..........................
imagine that the dot map is the upper left corner of the Tunnel Runner map. the underscore is the spot where the bonus
door is at in Runs 10 & 11. Other runs has it there too. sometimes the cb Cb door is along the top wall. if you can see
the monsters on the map, and you know where the bonus door is at, go to the other side of the map and lure them over
that way, then sprint to the door and get that 1000pts.
I have never found this door before Run 10

Is your guy invisible on all runs following Run 9?
no, your guy will reappear on the map. I don't remember which run, but somewhere between run 14 & 18. I got used to finding out where I am and then using the map again. but then your guy comes back on the map, and the key is invisible! that for me was tough, even though it seemed like a huge relief to see my arrow, now I had to run all over with fast ghosts chasing and I don't know where the key is. then the ghosts disappear from that, rats. I suppose eventually it won't show you anything but a map.
it is funny, I got to run 18 a couple times but haven't been able to get that far since then. I seem to have had a better feel for the game when I improved at first, now I have to get that knack going again
about Run 5: I found you can get past that first ghost, but you have to hurry & waste no time running so you can beat him to that intersection. If you get slowed down by a corner, I don't think you can make it. if you don't pick up some speed between the two corners, it is a good chance you won't make it.
I looked at this game on the Retrocade scoreboards and found out it has a KILL SCREEN at Run 128, despite the manual's claim that the screens are endless.
The leader there rolled the score 5 times for a score of over 511K by the end.

I'm impressed with this game! beats the heck out of maze craze and I remember liking that one
I finally found Cb Cb door, on Run 9 or 10. i suppose there are lots of them. I found out that they do have the glowing floor though, to show you there is a door. I found that warping forward 2 runs may be beneficial whenever convenient, since you get more points per step, and for your time bonus, the higher the run #.
How many 3d maze games are there for the 2600?
Escape from the Mind Master (which I love and is one reason I'm searching for a supercharger).
Tunnel Runner (I didn't know this game until now!)
Skeleton+ (a homebrew I played just a little)
Are there others?
I know of a couple: Crypts of Chaos (20th Cent. Fox 1982) & London Blitz (Avalon Hill 1983)
i hear there may be a prototype cartridge of AD&D Treasure of Tarmin
I think there is also one where you actually shoot with a gun but I don't remember the name
