  1. Thanks for the guidance. Looking forward to a busy weekend trying these out.
  2. Wow Thanks for the suggestions (and Chaplin for the amazing info). Currently I'm using a stock 1050. But the above is invaluable.
  3. I'm currently using Disk copy 2000 to write to floppies.(Yeah great name ;0) This is usually via SIO2PC. Although it works great, there seems to be absolutely loads of different copiers out there. Is there a definitive one for ATR's folk can recommend? (not minding of they are cracked etc). Why so many? And what's the best for ATR's? Thanks in advance.
  4. Im using the 18k and 5k1 at the moment, Im going to acquire an extra 7800 or two and use pot trimmers to see what kind of range this can vary by on at least 3 machines. As NTSC's are hard to come by in UK (or at least a fortune to ship) im keeping an eye on ebay and place to catch a bargain. As i just need the mainboard, im not that fussed how bad the externals look.
  5. Thats more like Swampfox (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/243676-modsrepair-service-now-accepting-orders/ ).... and hes probably nearer $1 Million going by the posts and venom on this chap.
  6. Where can i get Riki and Vikki? Looks amazing!
  7. When servicing a 1010, I usually use a head cleaner tape (those cloth tapes thing's popular in 80s but still around for a couple of bucks on eBay and maybe amazon). The inner mechanism I use a very minimal amount of WD40 (with a cotton bud) on the inner hinges and moving parts so that they are not seizing or near to that stage. Changing Bands on the Japan model (the one with the orange rectangle sticker the tape goes) are a bit tricky as a lot needs removing to get to the band. The Hong Kong version (one with the silver rectangle) is fairly simple however. (As are xc12's i might add) Adjusting the heads/tuning. I recall you type Poke 54018,52 to switch motor on. you can then tune the tape with a tiny screwdriver so that it sounds clearest. Poke 54018,60 to switch off)
  8. I still sell these and have re-balanced the sound. PM me for details on how to order.
  9. Or even XEX? Is there a reason why it appears to be a cart only build?
  10. Jurgen (aka on here as: tf_hh) sells D9 adaptors for the beeb, which allows D9 joysticks to plug in and work with BBC micros and Masters.
  11. Gtia just needs a 75 ohm resistor and a capacitor to get pure signal, no need for anything else fancy or otherwise.
  12. S-video is the highest denominator conning from the GTIA chip. Even with HDMI upscaling or conversions to VGA or RGB, it's still S-video as native. I usually ignore composite as if I recall it drops quality and is not equal or more to the sum of its two parts lum and chroma)
  13. Thanks to you patience and valuable feedback Crossbow, I'm there with balancing up the sound levels as they should. NTSC users will benefit from this on the current versions of the s-video board. :0)
  14. Great transition! Question - (Level 3 at end on the video) I thought should have ended once the last cherry was obtained? A bug in the game? Amazing whats been done :0)
  15. Shame it never continued, I was looking forward to Crocket and Tubs speaking with Sid accents ;0)
  16. Games and a flexible setup to do disk based saves and stuff, Occasional basic programming. Like most, the fact that the A8 can be upgraded so far advanced yet keep its charm is too irresistible.
  17. Is there a link to a 2 or 3 button dropzone mod anywhere?
  18. What's the best way to archive cassette tapes? I've seen Atarimania say the originals are missing. Is there a tape version of ATX? (over cracked ATR)
  19. Theres a large Maplin index of projects out there, might start looking through these for anything related. DH2 - best Xmas film after DH1
  20. Bah, I would have loved to use this on a game such as Kennedy approach where if tweaked - you can plot on screen the altitude and heading instead of the keyboard or worse, the joystick. (think of Die Hard 2 when the terrorist dude used a light pen to re-calibrate the sea level etc...) I think Pre touch screen in the CRT era of the 80's would have made a good go of this with some adjustments and calibration of screen, if supported properly. Do you know of any other projects Maplin did involving the A8?
  21. Found the magazine - heres some extracts and a PDF of the entire instructions at the bottom. Just need to get a CRT to mess about with this... Light pen instructions.pdf
  22. Just saw your post whilst looking up light pens from Maplin... Just 8 years or so later! I bought the kit back in 1992 from Maplin as I needed something to build as part of a project required to pass my electronic engineering module and subsequent qualification. I remember the kit of parts and a A4 page with a very short basic program. As I used the colleges 'Ye Old CRT' Tv the lines drawn was about a cm off where the pen was, so I programmed am offset to compensate. Was fun yet simple Wish I could find the kit again :0)
