  1. If your condition doesn't allow any decent attempts, that'd be bummer. Hope you improve, and can give all games a try. Even Frogger.

Once you get through that one hard traffic level (which happens around 3.5 or 4k (roughly), traffic resets to starting level and only the river parts get slightly harder. If you make it there with one or two lives left and keep focused, there's quite a few points to be made for relatively little danger.

  2. Atari 2600

    Frogger: 34 min

Real life keeps interfering with the lure of my Atari console, which is a bit of bad news for my performance in the Bronze Medal competition. But there are quite a few days left, so I'm confident that I will get a few good attempts in. Very happy with my Frogger score for now. The other games are Toyshop Trouble and Infiltrate, one of which is great fun to play.

  3. We shall see. I might have beaten you in two of the games during the season, but I also know you are a persistent customer with great skills. The scores were close in both games, and I was at the end of my line with those as well. The opera ain't over until the fat lady sings... :-).

  4. I've dug through my collection and may have found something that might be interesting as a prize:

Winner of this Paper Medal Bracket can choose any two of the games depicted above. All are US NTSC games, and all are sealed, except for Bump 'n Jump, which is just CIB. The shrink wrap on Crossbow has become brittle and is broken. None of the boxes is without small dents, but overall, they are in fairly good condition for their age.

If the winner is not interested in any of these, I would ask Albert to hand out a $ 15 AA store gift card on my bill instead.

The games were part of a HUGE lot of stuff I got from a large-scale German collector a while ago. I paid a ridiculously low price for that lot, so I think it's only fair to give something of that generous gift back to the community.

  5. Atari 2600

    Bank Heist: 54 min

    NES

    Boulder Dash: 12 min

    Chip ‘n Dale 1: 3 min

    Duck Tales: 5 min

    Super Mario Bros: 5 min

    Sega Mega Drive

    Bio Hazard Battle: 8 min

    The Flintstones: 3 min

    Wolverine Adamantium Rage: 5 min

Tried out some new Mega Drive games I found on a recent flea market, played some NES with my son, and finally worked out how Bank Heist works. We will see tomorrow if my score was good enough :-)

  6. I'm not sure yet, Vocelli. I could think of many things. Atari games, maybe a joystick, maybe even a Sega or NES controller. Maybe I could just chip in a $15 gift certificate for the AA store myself. Give me a few days to rummage through my stuff and see what I got. We are not in an extreme hurry, considering how long the tournament still goes. I just think that a real prize might be a bit of an incentive to participate.

  7. Maybe I just ask here...

Question 1: Since Spriggy has donated AA store gift certificates to those who made it to the bracket challenges - when will that drawing be?

Question 2: Would it be desirable if I donate a little prize for the winner of the Paper Medal? Something physical from my collection. All players in here would be eligible for the prize (I would give it to myself, be happy and save some shipping costs if I'd end up to be the one.), provided he/she hasn't already drawn a gift certificate. See question 1.

  8. Barely made it across the 6.6 k. New score: 6,973.

Your hand rested, Redmiller? Taking into account how early in the week you reached 6k, I would think you should give it another go. You have two days to beat my new score. I definetly won't have any more time to play before Sunday.

  9. Favourites:

    Breakout - because paddles.

Demon Attack - one of those "get into the flow" games.

    Surprises:

Gingerbread Man - more than meets the eye.

Private Eye - never played it before, pretty "sophisticated"

    Worst:

Track n Field - can't stand to do this to my poor historical joysticks

    Decathlon - see above.

It was a great season. Tough competition - for a mediocre player like me it gets harder every year to stay in touch with the top 24. And that'S exactly how it should be. Thanks, Mr. V for making this possible.
