Atari 2600 Demon Attack: 82 min Ghost Manor: 17 min Room of Doom: 9 min Commodore 64 Battle Ships: 49 min Not much change from last week's playtime. I was wondering how many minutes of Battleships and Kaiser have been logged so far. I suspect I'm the only one who logged these two games over the last couple of years...

Season 8 ~ Week 4 ~ Halloween Special!

Ghost Manor: 14,250. Can't figure out how to get rid of Dracula. The cross doesn't seem to do anything, no matter how close I am. -
Turns out I did have some time and got a good game in. Demon Attack 7AA: Rollage.

German Santa is in again. Thanks Grig for doing this.

Season 8 ~ Week 4 ~ Halloween Special!
karokoenig replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Let's get Room of Doom out of the way first, since I have no cart. Really interesting concept, but I don't like emulation too much. Ghost Manor I actually have, will play it later. 5,475 -
Now, that's more like it: 54,990. I think I could roll it, but it doesn't look like I'll have enough time to sit down and find the groove. Always takes a few rounds to get one of the promising games going, which massively collides with my real life schedule.

Demon Attack 7AA: 17,870. I should be able to do much better, but I find it hard to get into a groove today. Fire Fighter 8: 0:22. Glad I made it to the required 22 second mark with little time investment. That game and I are not friends :-).

The half-time boss is level 25. Seen and beat it a few times, but usually lose a life or two on it, or lose focus afterwards and die miserably :-). Easy difficulty - as far as I can see - is just starting you with a double ship right away. In the course of the game, it doesn't make much of a difference, but it does give you quite a bit of a headstart. Great for practice and getting into a flow.

Not my game. Never was, never will be. My personal best is only about 13k, so I am happy with this: 1BB: 10,070 5BB: 434

I have checked an NTSC gameplay video of Dragonfire on Youtube, and I really can't see any difference in speed to what my PAL console with a PAL cartridge gives me. Certainly not in the order of 1/5. If anything, the NTSC fireballs on the bridge look even slower to me than I'm used to. I do know that playing NTSC carts on a PAL console leads to slower gameplay - which you can also do on an emulator. As for the real cart on a real system - it looks like a proper adaptation to me. That's my perception, which might be wrong. Does anyone know for certain that Dragonfire PAL is a lazy port?
-
I'm not sure if the Flashback Portable is a "real" system or if it's running on an emulator inside - too lazy to look it up. But especially with Dragonfire, any microsecond of lag would be a game breaker for me. I mentioned in the HSC thread that even changing from one Competition Pro joystick to another, almost identical one, made a huge difference. Also, any control method other than joystick would feel like hell. Keyboard, D-Pad, whatever.

Atari 2600 Dragonfire: 43 min Phoenix: 12 min NES Holy Diver: 22 min Pin Bot: 4 min TMNT II The Arcade Game: 18 min SNES Populous II: 85 min Some Dragonfire for the High Score Club, which has just started this week. Some Populous II on the SNES. Man, the SNES mouse is awkward. But still I am glad I have one. Having to play this game (which is rather fun) with a d-pad sounds like purgatory for me. On the NES, I played two games I picked up yesterday on the flea market (Pin Bot and TMNT) and the new highlight in my collection - Holy Diver. Please excuse the atrocious photos. I had to use a stone old videocamera in stillshot mode. Now, this is a collector's edition release of the former Japan-only game. It comes in a sturdy black case with golden letters, a certificate (limited to 2800 copies), some postcards, stickers, some pins, a high quality notebook - and a white cartridge. Everything is high-quality, and the attention to detail is exquisite (see sticker on the back of the cart). I knew from James & Mike Mondays and Mike's later playthrough that this is a good, but very hard game. And I'm a huge fan of Ronnie James Dio. So when I saw that it got released outside of Japan, I couldn't resist. Testplayed it and managed to beat the first boss. Yep, it's rough.

Changed from one Competition Pro to a slightly tighter one. The right controller makes a huge difference in this game. I think this is about as much as I can do. Dragonfire 1BB: 22,420.
-
@ Leto: 28k with keyboard controls? What are you? Superman?
-
You can use any controller you want, as long as you don't use dirty tricks like slowdown or so (which some controllers have).
-
New score, slightly better: 14,350.

Dragonfire 1BB: 13,070. I was never really good at this game, but I think I made it to about 20k back when I was younger. For now, I'm happy that I passed 10k.

Commodore 64 Galencia: 10 min Jungle Hunt: 5 min Steel Ranger: 10 min Been forced into a part-time lurker state during the last few weeks, due to crazy busy real life. At least I visited my dad this weekend, where my old C64 is set up. And I had a chance to test my new collector's piece - Steel Ranger. An awesome new homebrew. Nice graphics, smooth animation, great music. Had my 4-year-old with me, and he tried as well. We also fiddled a bit with Jungle Hunt and Galencia. I really need to get the Competition Pro Mini working :-)

Saba Videoplay Cart 1: 2 min Cart 2: 2 min Cart 3: 2 min Cart 4: 5 min Cart 5: 2 min Cart 7: 2 min Cart 8: 2 min Atari 2600 Atlantis: 3 min Circus Atari: 5 min Phoenix: 15 min Schnapp die Apfeldiebe (Quelle hack of Plaque Attack): 5 min Venture: 8 min NES Marble Madness: 8 min Sega Master System Olympic Gold: 15 min Lots of hardware testing and a good relaxing round of Phoenix afterwards. What can I say about the Saba Videoplay (Channel F for you Americans)? It's primitive alright, and I'm not yet sure how to choose game variants. None of my games has a manual with it. Sure it's more sophisticated than your average Pong, but in terms of fun gameplay, I'd go with Pong any day - or with an Interton VC4000. The Fairchild/Saba controllers are something to behold, though. And man, that thing is heavy. Feels like the circuits inside are made of bricks and concrete.
