  1. first thing to probably try is clean the carts http://atariage.com/howto/clean_cartridges.htmluse a high percentage rubbing alcohol (like 90%) should have it Wal-mart or grocery store some good tips on cleaning the controllers on youtube , can use same supplies ideally would be best for someone local to help you tinker with it. where are you located roughly ?
  2. the slot on the dust door shutter when open is designed to fit around the shielding for the IC chip. common board with dust door over shielding: common cart "measured" with a wooden match: a cart I was having trouble with in a heavy sixer but would work in a 4 switch model sliding dust door didn't move as deep as last cart: a design change on a homebrew board didn't allow the shutter to open all the way: for my use, I was able to dremel that slot a tiny bit to compensate. the board design I think was changed
  3. cart #2 came with the remote paddles fantastic find
  4. again there are TONNAGE of controllers http://mirrors.pdp-11.ru/_atari/2600connection.com/faq/controllers/faq_controllers.html the Gemstick with the yellow button is a comfortable controller to use, and I think pretty reliable. one I got was in pretty good shape anyways I haven't tried a TAC-2 yet but only heard all good things there are some that are stilll in great shape , if you can post a pic we could try help verify it's authenticity
  5. Sorry to hear about you Moms passing and thanks for sharing the pic of Happier times
  6. I'm with trying to clean the carts first. http://atariage.com/howto/clean_cartridges.html( us 91% rubbing alcohol ) certainly can be other things ... this guy assembled a parts kit , with a pic of "the 7805" in question http://atariage.com/forums/topic/262129-atari-2600-cap-and-voltage-regulator-kits/?p=3693862 if power supply went bad I would think screen would go to no-input snow like in Poltergeist
  7. I've used storage containers like these and does a nice job. The Sterilite branded ones I thought were perfect were't being manufactured the exact size anymore. A problem for me was it being hidden away to easy I found a few shallow VHS storage shelves at local recycle facility and re-purposed them making carts more accessible. trouble here is dust and even being shallow can tend to be a catch-all Plexiglas doors would be nice looking forward to see the outcome
  8. see if this still works http://atariage.com/forums/topic/235195-atari-manual-scan-archive/?p=3180803
  9. that switch inside the console is a channel selector switch , normally to access it is a rectangle hole under the battery box you replaced, does it work on channel 2 ? I dunno how many time I was fiddling with stuff & forgot to plug the RF cable in or something silly , while opened up try a different RF cable as well. member: Keatah would know more about them resistors you were pointing to
  10. how are you connecting it to the TV ? slider switch or coax adapter ? http://atariage.com/howto/connect.html newer model flat-panel or a classic CRT ? have you tried the "battery eliminator" (make sure it's 6V DC center positive) when that unit is plugged into console it will disconnect any power coming from the batteries ( so worth checking for a point of failure ) you should have great sound but I have had these come with a bad speaker.
  11. ok disassembled my C-100 and yeah the shielding is soldered on first time getting the knobs off is difficult , hair dryer to heat and expand things help with a lot of pressure, I use fingertips on knobs using knuckle as a fulcrum but some sort of pry tool would work as well , they are typical "D-shaft" knobs and pull straight off there is a nut on the threads of the potetiometer that have to be removed as well looks like the solder side of board shielding would need to be removed first to access the parts side of board solder points that pass through the board.
  12. the RF shield should have little tangs you twist or bend to pass through the adjacent holes , best to re-assemble 2 halves and set aside so tabs don't get mangled up while doing other work. not sure about the caps values should be written on them you can open the pots and clean them effectively by resurfacing the little carbon contact, they may also have interchangeable parts with 2600 paddle pots but not fully sure
  13. got an old CRT TV ? or perhaps a analog signal search for that TV ? I dunno if there's a channel switch on the board
  14. I'm interested in finding one of these setups. how did you come acrossed it may I ask great pics
  15. so I'd be safe to stay with 91% isopropyl alcohol .... my eyesight is bad enough already !!!!
  16. yeah they tend to do that. I'll have to check out that Everclear stuff .... sold at local hardware typically ?
  17. I concur .... this is a good guide to use .... http://atariage.com/forums/topic/184296-slowcoders-guide-to-cleaning-up-your-2600/
  18. the "Rare one" is the Sears picture variant http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-superman_16595.html just be aware there have been repro's made and very fine print describing as such
  19. I use this guide http://atariage.com/forums/topic/184296-slowcoders-guide-to-cleaning-up-your-2600/?p=2316794 you probably have a carbon contact in there so DO NOT use the grease , you can lightly file the carbon contact on the shaft if it's pitted last one I took apart like that however the contact fell off so it'd be a pot replacement
  20. this is up on Netflix at this post. Just watched it & enjoyed it very much
  21. Ok awesome, that answers my question of how to make Skull Soccer a two player (2 controller) game
  22. the "Atari Computers" shelf & the Vectrex POP kiosk are really nice what's that thing ... next to the Pac-Man board game ? my first thought was an old-timey radio but now guessing a cart dumper of some kind
  23. got mine today & played a 3 round game of Death Chase first. won first round , A.I. got 2'nd round making me nervous for the 3'rd round. I clutched-out the final victory & won the coveted trophies Gave NOX a spin, was gonna use my Atari driving controller but forgot I need to neatly modify the DB9 connector. I was giggling as I was just bouncing off walls & winding up in wrong direction & getting pissed I couldn't make opponent cars spin out as much as I was thanks a bunch goona bring it for New years party @ neices & nephews
