I agree with Jason the Intellivision controller is meant to be rolled. DZ-Jay is an expert in controller / programming so I am pretty sure he will give you a more comprehensive answer. Moreover, used his expertise on this issue to program a game what could be considered the best control in any Intellivision game (Carol vs Ghost). You should also check out his game and compare.

 

I am a big fan of the 3 games (Atarisoft's Pac Man, Lock N Chase and Carol) and once you get in the zone with controlling each of these games you will be pleasantly surprised. Carol by far is the most responsive of the 3 in my opinion. Cheers and welcome to the forums.

This game started out good. Another perfect christmas.

Then i got 8 lives built up only needed one more for achievement. Then everything went to absolute shit and i lost my 9 or 10 lives. (not sure how many you get at this score) and i didnt even get to ranger on what again should have been my best game. Im about to hurl my flashback out the window.

That my friend is the "Curse of the Perfect Xmas". Now that you got the Perfect Xmas Achievement out of the way, forget about Perfects and advance, advance, advance...

 

Each new level can increase your score at around 100 points, a perfect achievement will only give you 10, 20, 30 or 40 extra points. The Maths cannot be wrong, advancing beats perfection in this game. Cheers. O

In this same game i was a lucky s.o.b. I had to play helper elf from the first snowflake garden to ranger on one life cause i lost 5 of them on candy cove. By some miracle i beat my old high score with only 2 lives on ranger elf.

Congrats on the new high score. Indeed, I also often beat scores with low life counts. My wife always tells me to keep on playing despite silly mistakes.
