  1. 40GB drive isn't stock. XBOX came with an 8GB drive, so its already had its HD upgraded. I'd recommend getting a great big hard drive, and throwing CoinOps on it.

The biggest drive you can put on there is a 2TB, but to do so you'll need a SATA to IDE adapter, and it has to be one that has master/slave jumpers on it.

If it is soft modded, I'd recommend doing a TSOP flash so you can really get going with it.

  2. Yeah I've been snapping up PS2 RPGs over the last year for a song. Now is definetly the time.

If only I could find a copy of Growlanser Generations with case and manual, that's my last 'want' for the PS2 and it's proving to be quite hard to find for a reasonable price. Probably because of all those WD fan boys.

I'm one of those WD fan boys. :) and I've paid ridiculous amounts for some titles; still haven't been able to find a nice CIB of this title that I can justify buying; but I will!! I'm sure I'm just going to end up paying crazy eBay prices. :)

RIP PS2, I still have 8 fat PS2's, never had a slim. ...I feel like I should horde a few more machines and buy a few replacement lasers while they are still available...

  3. I'm trying to resurrect one of my C64's, and sadly she has a bad SID chip. With all of the "chip-tune" music folks out there these days, supplies of good original chips are really hard to come by.

If some one has one or could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

    thanks you!

  4. Interesting thread! And, I'm not really sure where I fit in to it. I own all of the hardware, tons of consoles (multiples of most of them) tons of carts, tons of cds, all generations...

and lots of emulators and hundreds of gigs of ROM's and ISO images for tons of systems that I play in emulators (and real hardware - I often will play "backups" on my Saturn, Sega CD, Gamecube, or PS1)

Recently, I've moved and EVERYTHING I own except for about two weeks worth of clothes, my bed, and my computer is still in boxes (and will stay that way until I move again, hopefully very soon) in the meantime; I've been playing through emulators, of all of my systems..

I haven't had a hard time playing whatever I want, If I want something, I'll buy the cart / CD / DVD whatever it is released on, and then if I want to play it on an emulator, I'll just dump it and then play it on an emulator.

I do understand that not everyone has the hardware to do that kind of thing though.

So, like I said; I don't know where I fit in to this scene, I support independant people by buying the products that I want; but I also spend plenty of time on a few private tracker torrent sites....

EDIT: though.. we ARE in the 2600 forum, right? I have 15 2600's.... I've never paid for one - I have bought a few controllers, but all of my 2600 systems have been gifted / found in friends homes and given to me, or LITERALLY found at the dump... I'm pretty sure if you really want to play something that doesnt have a released ROM that you could obtain a 2600 for almost no cost; then you could just buy the game and play it. ...Want a CRT TV to hook it up to? check out craigslist; people are literally giving them away.

  5. Maybe you can then donate to the Oton, the revolutionary Android game console that writes its own games. It has already raised a whopping $455 out of $1000000 in the past month.

    Robert

HAHAHAHAAHAH!!! Thank you for giving me the best laugh I have had in days!!! Branching out from just the video on their site I found a little piece on Kotaku about them, and BAM read the comments, and one of their "marketing geniuses" was all over the comments, and he cant spell either!!

  6. Guess it's time to buy a cheap backup Wii. Has anyone tried replacing a gamecube laser? Will that fix a no disc message or is it a crap shoot?

GC Laser replacement is easy as pie. I've done probably 20 of them so far. and a few mods, I bought the ViperGC as soon as it came out and modded my GC, its been working since then.

  7. Hmm..

    They should work if converted...

    http://eab.abime.net...ead.php?t=30944

In fact, they should kind of work without conversion (just won't recognize a diskchange; you can even use the diskchange command to get by a bit, for non-autobooting stuff)...

Wonder if you have a cable or other hardware issue on you 500's??? Would be weird for it to be both tho... Also, if you're using HD drives and HD floppies, you'll need to cover the HD hold on the floppy...

    desiv

(Yes, you can conver HD floppy drives, but they won't be HD on the Amiga, just DD. And best to use DD media, although lots of people have luck with HD media..)

Thats a great thread!! There are a lot more "compatible" drives then there were since the last time I checked (around 03) thanks for the link

  8. First? Northstar Horizon, with an external 8" floppy and a nice green phosphour terminal. it was frigging sweet, had a wooden case, and I still have it!!

Second was a VIC-20 (that one was sold by me to raise funds for a C64)

    Third was a C64

    Then an A500

I remember sometime around 93 i also got a 486DX2 66... which was pretty much bleeding edge at the time, had a 14.4K modem too. ...which was a big leap forward from my first modem, which was a 300baud Commodore modem (which I did quickly replace with the 1200)

  9. Not for me, since for something that is initially 'free' i ain't giving over credit card details thanks (since from what i am told, that is a prerequisite for signing up to said service)

I know your last post was a month ago, but I figured that I'd let you know

There is another way that has everything that an UNDERGROUND GAMER would ever want, and you dont have to pay a dime; just follow the rules. :)

  10. I'm excited for the WiiU.. but until all the online features roll out and mature a bit; I'll be waiting. When the Wii came out, i spent 4 seperate nights standing outside in lines waiting for stores to open trying to get one. When I finally got one, I realized how ridiculous all that waiting in the cold was and vowed I'd not do it again.

WiiU's are in rather short supply here in my specific area of CT, but I think it'll probably be about another year before I pick one up... I've got literally thousands of other games to play, when spread out between my systems and emulators.

  11. It's not. It's related to Newtown.

I know that I am new here (as far as being registered, been unregistered and reading the forums for years) but... how in the HELL did you get THAT out of this thread? In no way related, and in no way mentioned at all, until you did... on page 5.. when you came in here saying how awful this all is... I don't think so. I think maybe you should try to be a little more light hearted.

Yes, the OP got jumped on a bit.. but then this thread just turned in to fun. So, enjoy - or dont participate in this thread. Its really easy. Like changing the channel on TV when something that you dont like comes on.

So far nothing hurtful, threatening, violent, etc has been mentioned in this thread, so I dont see the problem.

  12. Got mine about 12 years ago from a coworker who knew that I was in to video games. A two port with about 14 games and all the hookups, manuals and overlays (no boxes).

He just brought everything in in a big box and when I came back from a run he said that he brought in a "box of crap" for me. :)

At the time, I was excited but too preoccupied with things in my life to take the time to hook it up, and then I moved.. and a lot of life happened.

Within the last few weeks my parents have both become ill and I have moved back "home" to help look after them along with a visiting nurse. Found the "box of crap" 5200 stuff a couple of days ago. I still haven't hooked it up yet after all of these years.. I will soon though; just dont have a television at the moment.
