  1. Morning all. Just thought id let you know I finally managed to get some isopropyl alcohol and clean the lens. It took about 3 attempts but seems it is now reading PS2 and PS1 discs with no problem. Many thanks for sharing the video.
  2. Hi Stephen, Thanks for your help, although this is not the slim version its the original. All the best
  3. Thank you for all your help. I will go through that video and check out what he says. And yes you are right, I am in the UK! But I do know what a dime is appreciate the replies and video.
  4. Thats very helpful. Do you have any idea of what it looks like or how it should be adjusted? I was going to try a lens cleaner first, but I am guessing you feel this wouldn't do very much?
  5. Good afternoon all, I have just picked up an old Phat PS2 PAL model. I am getting disc read errors on PS2 games, PS1 games and audio discs. I did briefly manage to get a PS2 game to load, but it eventually locked up on the title screen when left alone. I know the discs are all fine because I play them on another console that I have. I was just wondering what could be the cause of this and if its not too expensive I may attempt to repair/replace myself. Many thanks for your help!
  6. I was contacting the shop mentioned higher in this thread but they have stopped responding. My grandparents are heading to the US in September. Would you be able to post a couple of spares to Pennsylvania? I would imagine that would be a lot cheaper than posting to the UK! Really appreciate it if you have a few left?
  7. Thank you. I will have a look and let you know if I feel comfortable enough to do the repair. Haven't touched a soldering iron for some time so may be a little rusty!
  8. Just to add - I looked at the eBay listing but it'll cost me $40 + tax to get it to the UK. There are no UK equivalents unfortunately.
  9. Thanks for all the help peeps. I'll open it up and take a look and see what I feel comfortable with.
  10. I am happy to give soldering a go, but I wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good device to get this one up and running. If I can somehow replace the pin that would be great, or somehow purchase the connector?
  11. Good evening all, I hope you are well well, its been a little while since I have posted. A friend of mine works at a school where they were getting rid of a 2600 so I bought it from them. I got it home, tuned it on and all works fine. Except that I can not go "up" on the joystick. Tried another joystick and alas same problem. I took a look at the ports and have noticed that a pin has either snapped off or is missing. Has anyone had any luck trying to replace / repair something like this in the past? I have uploaded a picture. Many thanks for your help.
  12. Hi thank you for your reply. I managed to dig out my PS2 at my parents in laws and that loaded with no problems. I think its what I thought initially, that the CD laser on the PS3 has gone. I am relieved it isn't the game as at least I have a means of playing it now. But you are correct, the PS3 does use software emulation for PS1 games.
  13. Hi all. I have a second gen 120GB ps3 (first slim model) and when I put in FFVIII the system loads up the PlayStation boot screen but doesn't go any further. I've tried two of the discs and get the same problem. Unfortunately I don't have another game to try. Has anyone else had this issue?
  14. Heh. Also the other issue with emulation - trying to emulator input support for light-gun based games.
  15. I'd need to build one. I just don't have the funds right now and unfortunately the mac mini isn't nvidia equipped
  16. Oh of course, I just need to be bothered to create the rips! My mac mini is 2010 but its one of the less locked down ones so easier to use for emulation etc, but the hardware is pants when compared to the modern day.
  17. Fair enough, I have a Mac Mini that I use for emulation at the moment with an optical drive (unfortunately broken) but it struggles with anything from PS2 onwards. Plus you wouldn't be able to emulator the newer stuff, and I am just thinking of how to lessen the amount of devices sitting around my TV
  18. Are there any decent multi-console hardware platforms? Most seem for cartridge use though rather than discs.
  19. Wow I can't believe it is 14 years old! Since my last post on this in 2014 I don't think too much has changed for me as a mac user, other than introduction of OpenEmu. Makes it easier to emulator most systems, but lacks some features of the dedicated emulators. I still use original hardware, however funnily enough I was thinking about whether I could bring myself to completely switch to emulation earlier today, but I just see too many pitfalls still.
  20. Thank you. Will give them a go then.
  21. Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty rubbish with a soldering iron so I might try theirs and return if they don't work.
  22. Hi all, I've seen these on eBay which are Jaguar controller extension cables: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATARI-JAGUAR-CONTROLLER-EXTENSION-CABLE-1-8m-BRAND-NEW-/181985442393? The seller is claiming they are new atari stock leads. Now I have tried a variety of VGA extension leads (15-pin) but they do not work. What would be different about these one? I also feel they are quick expensive. Anyone had any luck? Many thanks.
  23. OK so the RF lead has turned up and I have discovered something rather odd. The RF input on the back of the Jaguar is too small to plug in the RF lead. I tried another Jaguar (fully working) and the input is the right size so no problems plugging it in. Any ideas?? They look pretty identical at the back, but the input is too small.
  24. Hi all, Little updated for you. Ive had a look at the traces around the AV connectors, they look a bit suspect. The RF connectors are harder to work out. I've ordered an RF lead to try that and see if we get anything on the screen if so I'll post my findings. All the best
  25. Thanks for that. I'll have a look later and try and get some pictures to post up
