  7. A prototype is a prototype, not a finished product. There is a difference between a prototype and a finished (but unreleased) game. If I know I am buying a cartridge containing a prototype game, I know I am buying an incomplete game or that it may have issues. I'm ok with that.
  8. Atarimania is a good resource for researching pirate carts, and this looks like one to me.
  9. If your friend has any more Activision standees that they'd like to sell, I would be interested.
  10. Your best bet is to start with some games by Activision and Imagic, and the arcade conversions made by Atari (Asteroids, Berzerk, Centipede, Defender, Dig Dug, Ms. Pac-Man, Phoenix, etc), and branch out from there.
  11. Any six-switch or four-switch model is fine. It depends on whether you care about the placement of the difficulty switches. Some third-party cartridges won't fit in some six-switch models, so that's the main advantage of a four-switch unit. Something to think about, though, is whether or not RF interference is going to bother you. A stock console is going to output all audio and video over a single RCA cable in a way that is prone to interference. Some consoles are better than others in this regard. If you think this may bother you, you may want to buy a console that has been modded to provide composite (or s-video) out. Very reliable. It is impressive how well these things have held up. I have had lots of consoles come into (and go out of) my house, due to the way I like to collect (buying big lots, keeping what I need, selling the rest). When I run into a problem, it is usually an over-sensitive power switch. I'd say that 9 out of 10 consoles I've had worked without any issue. More often than not, the problem you will have will be with the game cartridges themselves. The edge connector on the board that inserts into the console will often need cleaning before it is playable, but this is very, very easy. Games are usually simple but challenging, like the arcade games of that era. The sound and graphics produced by the 2600 are very blocky, which I actually like. The stock controllers are good, but there's a huge assortment of different types of third-party controllers you can try. Most games are extremely cheap and easily found. Some advice: You will enjoy the games more if you read the manual. Some of these cartridges contain as many as 100 variations of the game, and without reading the manual, you won't know what the variations are. Also, the games often are not possible to understand without reading the instructions. The contents of most of these manuals are available on this site.
  12. All three Epyx releases for the Atari 2600 in original shrinkwraped boxes.. California Games Summer Games Winter Games
  13. A new addition to my Data Age collection.. A Data Age poster (shown here framed in my game room):
  14. 1. Complete my CIB collection of Imagic releases for Intellivision (I just need Fathom and Truckin'). 2. Acquire a near mint boxed copy of Happy Trails. 3. Earn all of the Activision Intellivision patches. 4. Beat killersquirel's high score on Tron Deadly Discs
  15. This is easily one of the best homebrew games made for the 2600, in my opinion. If you don't own it, you owe it to yourself to buy it.
  16. Count me in for a boxed copy, if you make one. Loose cart if you don't.
  17. I'm pretty ok with flicker.
  18. Do you have another television you can test it with? That will help you to determine if it is an issue with the console or the TV.
  19. Anyone fancy 18 1970s Atari arcade machines (in need of repair), including one or two Computer Space machines? http://www.ebay.com/itm/171177109608
