  1. Finally got around to installing my Braze kit. Works like a champ, and the high score save and free play options are nice touches.

Still happy with the Braze kit? I have a Space Invaders Deluxe machine as well, and I am giving it some thought, but I am a little conflicted about it, since it is currently all original parts ( to my knowledge).

Also, I'm wondering if you've ever had any trouble with your monitor? Mine is normally bright and beautiful, but has started going blank or dim occasionaly.

  2. After getting Jr. Pac-Man from PacManPlus, I'm now finding the Radica not responsive enough at higher levels (especially in fast mode). So I may be looking for something like Sector7e is designing after all (unless the Radica itself can be hacked with a Happ or similar controller).

I'm not sure about whether this would be true 7800, but I've yet to find anything better for maze games on the 2600 than a CX-40 plus a Stick Stand. Higher-end controllers seem too sensitive to me.

  3. I am perpetually upgrading items in my collection. More often than not, when I buy a game, I am buying a game I already have.

If I don't have a game, and I see a loose one I want at a good price, I get it.

If I see a loose one that is in better shape than the one I have, I get it.

If I see a boxed copy of a game I have loose, I grab it.

If I find a near mint complete copy of one that I have in lesser condition, I get it.

Obsessive? Maybe.. But it is fun.

The only thing that isn't fun is selling all of the lower condition items that I have replaced. That is a huge pain. Loose carts, I'll often sell off in big lots, but I take too much of a loss if I do that with boxed games.

  4. I got it on Christmas day and spent several hours trying to figure it out. I seem to remember it trying to emulate going from room to room (as if in a dungeon) except I could never tell what pixel or sprite I was supposed to be (it seemed to have a little dot at the bottom center of the screen...was that my character?) and I could never tell if I killed a monster, hit a monster, or what.

I agree with the other posters. This sounds like Crypts of Chaos. I own it but I've never really played it.

  5. People have begun asking inflated prices for it on eBay, due to the publicity around the dig (and they're seeking to take advantage of naive buyers), but it is worth about $10 if its in very nice shape.

Keep in mind that this is one of the most produced, and least liked, video games of the 80s.

  6. I've only had a 7800 for less than a year, and I've never owned an NES before (but I have played it).. So I guess I don't have any nostalgia for either of them.

NES games feel very NES-ey to me and hard to compare to anything else.

I don't think the 7800 has more than 1 side-scrolling platformer (Scrapyard Dog), and my impression of the NES library is that it has these in abundance.. So its hard for me to weigh one against the other.

  7. Cool.. I missed this thread back in 2010, but now it looks like I get a chance to contribute..

My favorite of their releases for the 2600 are easily:

    Subterranea

    Dragonfire

    Demon Attack

I love Imagic, so it is hard for me to say I don't like any of their games, but the games that I'd say I like the least are:

Atlantis (probably because I suck at it so bad)

    Fire Fighter

Riddle of the Sphinx (haven't played it since I was a kid.. maybe I need to revisit it)

  8. Sweet! It's nice to lighten the load :)

Do those games still play on an NTSC O2? I hear mixed answers on if they do or not...some say some play on hardwired controller model and some play on the removable joystick model.

There are NTSC versions that were released in Brazil.

  9. I'm curious. Is this running under emulation, or on a real 64/128?

I tried to get a C64 bbs on the internet about 10 years ago using a Lantronix ethernet modem emulator, but couldnt find any software (except Novaterm's host mode) that would recognize the incoming connection.

  10. I love my VIC-20 for gaming. The sounds are great, the graphics have a similar blocky charm to them as the 2600, and there are some really great games for it: Attack of the Mutant Camels, Bandits, Crossfire, and Lazer Zone to name a few. Compatibility with Atari joysticks is a plus, and the ability to load disk images via sdcard (with the current accessories available for it) is a real plus, as well.

I am not familiar with the Dragon line of computers, but the later models of the CoCo have always interested me, but I've yet to try one.

Rarely played games: Killer Satellites, Rabbit Transit

    One other suggestion: Starmaster

  12. A part of my little collection

    megeqe5e.jpg

I really like this corner. G7200, Vectrex with side art, Defender hand-held.. I am drooling.

That Space Invaders cab looks really interesting. Did you build that? If so, is it a MAME cabinet, or a dedicated machine?

Also, what is that next to your Vectrex? Is it a terminal?

What I think this space really needs is a more commanding-looking, space captain chair. Maybe something like this:

  13. Very nice research on this topic. Thanks for sharing it.

Something I'm wondering about how it would fit into this, though, is the M-Network Tron joysticks. These were available only via M-Network as a mail-order item in the U.S., but NOS ones have been sold from Venezuela.

It doesn't seem like it could have been retail overstock, since it was never available via retail outlets (to my knowledge).

  14. I love my O2 and I have never bought a loose game. Any games to recommend?

These are my favorites, of the original U.S. releases:

    Attack of the Timelord

    Killer Bees

    U.F.O.

    KC's Krazy Chase

    Turtles

    Power Lords

    These are also excellent:

    Pick Axe Pete

    KC Munchkin

    Freedom Fighters

    Demon Attack

Exclamation points on the Magnavox titles excluded for the sake of brevity.

  15. Hi everyone,

I thought I would mention this here, since there are still some people following this topic.

High Score has grown to a point now where voting on many scores is completing very rapidly (within a few hours, in many cases).

The minimum number of votes needed for voting to complete will be increasing from 10 to 20 in a few days. The required percentage of 'Yes' votes, 70%, will remain the same.

As the site grows, the minimum number of votes required will continue to increase, though that will be done gradually. Ideally, this will be done at a rate so that voting on many scores will complete in 24-48 hours.

My plan is that, eventually, 100 votes will be required for a score to pass (which will mean the submission was reviewed by a large number of people who reviewed it from multiple perspectives).

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
