Do You Buy Retro Videogames as an Investment?
Serious replied to boxpressed's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I bought the original Xbox on release day. I also built a large library of games for it, paying full price as they were released. It was a pretty sobering realization once I figured up how much money I had invested into it, and how much it had depreciated. I decided not to do that again. Buying 2600 games, I at least know there won't be the same kind of depreciation, and I don't get tired of them like I do most "modern" games. -
Is the Venezuala source bigger than the O'Shea's source?

These came from liwer2006. He's the best one I have dealt with. -
Is the Venezuala source bigger than the O'Shea's source?

I got my latest package from Venezuela last night. U.S. Customs opened it, but didn't damage anything this time. -
What did you think of Mattels gaming comeback?
Serious replied to Jakandsig's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I spoke to a Mattel employee at a conference about a year ago. When I brought up the Intellivision, he said there are people within the company who are proud of the company's history of innovation in video games and want the company to be doing something like the Intellivision again. However, I did not get the sense from him that these are influential people. -
I'm unclear on the source of the disappointment..? I guess you're looking to sell? I haven't personally noticed a drop in prices, with a few exceptions. The price you mentioned on Chase the Chuck Wagon is about what it is going for at present. I don't think there are many Atari collectors who go for the graded/slabbed games.

Neat article from 1985 about Cosmic Commuter & Ghostbusters release
Serious replied to Psionic's topic in Atari 2600
Impressive insight for an article written back in 1985. -
Congrats to S.BAZ for winning the latest HighScore.com contest!

If you're any good at Photoshop, you can make your own covers to fit inside Universal Game Cases. Here's some I made a while back: You could scan the artwork from the manuals or cartridge labels.

I have done this with a few, but shifted my focus to collecting the missing boxes. It was fun making my own covers, though.

My main goal is to catalog my Atari 2600 collection and the condition of all the items in it. Since I have not been able to find a condition guide that I like, I created my own in preparation for this. (Available here.) I had already done this a while back for manuals, but now have extended this to boxes and carts as well.

The second High Score contest is over, and S.BAZ is the winner. S.BAZ cracked an impressive 271 trophies! A $50 AtariAge gift certificate will be awarded to S.BAZ this week. Congrats!!

Original Atari 1200 dust cover $15: This is an unusual one.. This is a home-made Atari cartridge and manual storage case. It looks like a teenage woodshop project or something, made from 1970s wood panelling. This came in a lot of games I bought, and the games that were stored inside it were in very nice shape. $10 OBO A lot of 8 Musicmate modular Atari cartridge holders. $20 for the lot. Two brief-case style Atari cartridge cases $10 each All of these items are significantly worn. The MusicMate cartridge holders are very dusty. Prices do not include shipping. I am open to trades, as well.

It looks like the 7800 gamepad.

I love this stuff as well. The art on Atari 400/800 Space Invaders is one of my favorites. I was also admiring some of the Sears cover art last night, as I was sorting through my manual collection.

What is the real value of a CIB Sears Demons to Diamonds?
Serious replied to dobidy's topic in Atari 2600
I think your estimate is about right. -
I have seen it in magazines, but never anywhere else. I was just recently thinking about how none of the video game furniture-type items from back then seem to be around anymore. I used to have a cart that was made to hold the Atari on top, and games underneath. My guess is that items like this ended up in places where no one knew what they were for, and ended up getting junked. I can't imagine what a Salvation Army staff member would have made of that stick-stand when they received it.

The boxes on new releases are often limited, so if that's your priority, then at the rate you are talking about buying games, that will probably mean you are mostly buying the latest releases as they come out. There is nothing wrong with that. However, I would recommend you instead go first for the games that you think you will enjoy the most. Lady Bug, for example, is a fantastic game. So are Medieval Madness, Pac-Man 4k, and Juno First. I am a completist, also, so I get where you are coming from, but the games I value the most are the ones I most enjoy playing.
-
I just looked, and neither of my dark brown ones resemble this one. They do not have the large Atari logo, and they don't have the crinkle-cut edges.

You should be able to just buy a power supply with the right output from any electronics shop. Any power supply for any model of the 2600 should work, as well. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for one. Yes, there are rare games with significant value, but they are... rare. Odds are what you have probably doesn't include anything of exceptional value. If you want to share a photo of the games you have, It would help. I'd be happy to let you know if theres's something of unusual value.
