  1. I’m excited for this one. It’s one of my favorites. Can’t find my cart though, so I just ordered one from eBay. I love the sounds, and (not to be punny) the sense of dread in this game.
  2. When you have more than 9 lives left the game starts using symbols to tell you how many are left. In that run that I posted I had ‘>’ lives at one point, but got killed with bots circling the spawn point. Whittled me down to 5 by the time I got out of trouble.
  3. When I was a kid, my dad and I would play it as a 2 player co-op. I ran with one controller and he shot with the other. It was a blast.
  4. It was on disc mode. Anything else is too slow. I’ve played this game a LOT in order to get to this point, but I do have a couple of tips. The robots (and your player for that matter) can only have one bullet on the screen at a time. So if you entice one to shoot at you from across the screen, it buys you some safe time. The key to the invisible robot (where the real game begins) is to try to wait in a place where he will shoot before he is right on you, so that you can react. I like the crook of bushes in the lower right in particular. Also, never hang around the bunker in later stages. You can lose several lives in quick succession that way. My record on twin galaxies is 641,300. I’ve gotten higher than that a handful of times, but that’s my documented high score. That was the world record until Matthew S. Miller crushed it with a score a little over 2 million.
  5. My favorite intellivision game. It’s not my record, but I had a really good run tonight. Took a little over 2.5 hours. 540,500
  6. Indeed. Some of my better runs have taken 5-6 hours. I’m going to need to carve out some time.
  7. Thanks for the tips. I’m getting better. This game is a blast. I got through all three levels and back to the first. Changing the bats to blend in with the background, now that’s a creative way for the designer to add difficulty! 17,900
  8. Fun game, but I’m not very good. I do like that this season has had some games I haven’t played very much. 8,590
  9. I mapped the lower 7 directions from the disk to (going clockwise starting with ESE) 9, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4, and 7 on the number pad. That way the directions were roughly where the directions on the number pad were. Just took a little acclimation after that. I didn’t need due East or due West, at least on the levels I reached.
  10. Actually did better with my laptop keyboard than with actual hardware. I want to like this game. If only the aiming was better. 58,200
  11. I really love this game. My favorite 3 are Night Stalker, Lock N Chase, and Beauty and the Beast. I’ve always played this one with more focus on progress than on points. Sometimes, when you first appear on a level, there is a pattern of open windows that you can blow through and complete the level without being touched, and I look for that, because at high levels you can lose your six lives so quickly if you wait for the hearts, which are less frequent than the baddies. But I’ll give the point gathering focus a try. It is just as difficult. I’ll see what I can do by waiting for hearts. Wish me luck!
  12. You actually made it to building 7. The count starts at zero and is the buildings completed. Well done!
