Are you really a Jaguar fanboy though?

Do you place Checkered Flag and Trevor McFur on a pedestal? Does your butt clench when it's discussed that the Jaguar was complicated to develop for, Atari dug their own grave with an inconsistent release schedule and poor marketing/PR? Did you support Jag Zombies with your wallet just because the cart looked pretty on the shelf and has a box, despite the game's actual quality?

If you answered "No" to any of the above, then you are likely not a Jaguar fanboy. To me, there are major differences between being a fanboy, and just being a fan of, any given platform. Fans are pretty innocuous, but fanboys tend to be anything but, as has already been demonstrated ten-fold in this thread, heh.

Haha, well said. I've had my moments in the past where I felt like this fervor for the Jaguar, but I've calmed down a lot.

  2. If there weren't any fanboys, every topic for every system would be negative and nitpicky. Fanboys usually start upbeat threads, excited for one reason or another about a game or system advantage. Then the negative nellies come in to PROVE YOU WRONG.

The Jaguar is my favorite system, I'm a fanboy, I don't need proven wrong.

My EXP has finally shipped from Amazon. The Toaplan cartridge is still 10-14 days out but it's something.

I just received my IREM cart yesterday, that was pre-ordered back in October. Yeah, same for the Toaplan cart, it's on the way, but a couple weeks out yet.

How long does a thread need to be inactive before posting is considered to be "necro?"  A few months doesn't seem that long, but I have no idea of the etiquette there.

Oh yeah, Gradius - I think I'll spend part of my New Years Eve playing part 5 on PS 2.   It's been a while.

Doesn't matter, necro-bumping isn't forbidden here. The mods don't mind at all as long as the topic continues 'on-topic'. I like to revisit old threads from time to time, nothing wrong with it at all.

  5. My fav shmups on Neo Geo:

    -Strikers 1945 Plus

    -Prehistoric Isle 2

    -Blazing Star

Those are the ones I give regular play time to, and only Strikers is close to a bullet hell game. The other two I love the graphics more than anything, but I'm also really good at PI2. Funny how you tend to play the games you are good at.

My current Neo Geo setup is the 3\4 cab with the Hylostick mod, so I pretty much have every game. Its a good option that's out there.

Wii U does, yes. Last Nintendo console to do so (last major console, too?). In fact at first Nintendo planned for it to only have analog video out, and it's mostly the pressure form Nintendo Europe and USA that made them add HDMI support (hastily, if you remember the fact that early Wii U 1080psupport was basically 720p with added black borders...).

I think like their other consoles, depending on the region you'll have composite, component, and either S-video or RGBi.

Lack of HD on the original Wii is why I never bought one of those. Nintendo had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the era of high definition. Obviously it didn't hurt their sales for the Wii, but if I had to choose, that thing is their worst console of all time. The gimmick console from hell with no high definition. I love the WiiU by comparison.

  7. Yeah, the Stunner is getting expensive. I was looking into getting a second one, but I don't know anymore. There is a decent deal on ebay for a Japanese Stunner (which is Black) plus Virtua Cop 2 for like $70 or so last I checked.

I gave you a link to the Action Replay Plus in my previous post. Don't worry about any of the other various carts out there, the Action Replay is pretty much required gear for the Saturn gamer. Being an import enabler gives you so much better options, not only in game selection, but also can save you some cash in the long run, where the Japanese versions of games are most often quite a bit cheaper than the US counterparts. It also has all the memory space you'll ever need.

Time to go shopping for a light gun or two.   Any particular models known to be "the best of the bunch" or best to just stick with the first party Stunner?

Guess I need to figure out a 4MB cart to pick up, too.  Seems to be just shy of a million of those out there.

Don't you have the Action Replay Plus? If not, that's the cart you want, it has the memory upgrade plus it's an import enabler.

Stunner is great for a gun. They keep going up in price.

  9. I understand what MaximRecoil's point is, and there isn't any wrong answer on what games disappointed any individual. I think you guys are being harsh about it. We were kids.

I mean, you want to hear dumb? Here's my anecdote: I blind bought Double Dragon V for the Jaguar, without any research at all, just saw it on the rack at Electronics Boutique. I figured it was going to be just like the original trilogy, a side scrolling beat-em-up, with better graphics! Right? Took it home and it turned out to be one of the worst games of all time, let alone a 1 v 1 fighter as well.

So, yeah it gets way more dumb out there than having unrealistic expectations about NES Punch Out. Lighten up.

Back to seriously considering the MKII Midway.  What are the negatives to it?  Played one at a local shop that had it put together and was actually impressed, at least in the short term, with the monitor and controls.

MKII has the flat control panel, and you need to be seated to get the view of the entire screen. The marquee overhangs some and blocks an average height player's view a bit at the top. Also, it has Paperboy which is not very playable. It's still a decent cab though, I like all the games otherwise, but it is the first cab I'm going to sell when it comes time to make room.

I did manage to find this on eBay, but it's going for $40 with free shipping. :(

The stupid part is I looked around my cables and realized... I already had a cheap S-Video cable for my PS1. (I'm an idiot.) I will still probably consider upgrading at some point and passing my cheaper cable along for free though.

If anybody else has experience or input, I would definitely be interested in hearing it!

My experience is just get a PS2 slim, which has a better variety of cables to choose from. I mean, it can do Component as well as S-Video. I know that's probably not the answer you want, but it truly is the smart play IMHO. You want to talk about bliss? Component signal with something like the PS1 Raiden Project, or Strikers 1945....it's miles better than the S-video you'll get out of the PS1, and the load times are better.

I do have the Monster S-Video cable for the PS1 and  I have to concur with the other guy above, it has a spectacular quality about it. Very thick lining, but also very flexible. I don't think I've ever seen other cables quite this good for video games. In the end though, it's still just delivering an S-Video signal. I couldn't say if the Monster Cables provide any cleaner of a signal over a cheaper alternative. I doubt it to be honest, because I have a lot of experience with S-Video on a multitude of game systems and used a wide variety of cables and never noticed one brand being better than the other.
