  1. LOL WOOHOO....old thread, but hey I'm finally following up with what I got! When I started this thread I was serious about getting these games, but shortly after I found out some cool Neo Geo games were coming out so I saved my money for those instead, which I got SvC Chaos and Metal Slug 5...but now since the Neo is over with I started looking into other systems again. Well last week I bought Protector SE from the atariage store, and man this game is AWESOME!! I don't think I could have picked a better game to get...I love the control, it just seems super tight and I'm so impressed with this game....the graphics, the music, the audio...this is classic gaming at it's best and it showcases exactly what the Jaguar is good at, and that is 2d gaming. It's very hard! I can only get to level 10, which is funny because I did a search and loads of people say the exact same thing" I can only get to level 10!" lol... I think I'll get HyperForce next....hope I don't wait a whole year again to get it.
  2. 20$ for a complete boxed Jag is a great deal....and welcome to the strange, strange world of Jaguar. It's a great system to play and to collect for, because the majority of the games are very cheap to purchase. The Jaguar also has some of the the very best video games ever created! Enjoy.
  3. I thought the game was very hard....but fun. It seemed like the only way I could kill enemies was to dance them to death, but you can't use that power all the time. I kinda question the rarity of this title. Digital Press rates it at an R3, but this is one that I simply cannot find in the wild whatsover. I know that Moonwalker probably did sell very well when it was released since MJ was still very popular at the time. Maybe it's just regionally scarce here, but I would consider Moonwalker to be an R5 atleast....what about you guys, do you see alot of this game in the wild? Is R3 still a good rarity rating for it?
  4. S.T.U.N. Runner!!, Hard/Race Drivin.... Can you guys imagine how well the Jaguar could of handled a port of these games? The Genesis versions of Hard/Race Drivin are lackluster, they don't have the polygon pushing power that the Jag does...the games run too slow on the Genny. Actually, I think alot of the Atari Games games that made it to Lynx would have turned out even better on the Jaguar. Hydra, Xybots, Roadblasters!!
  5. I got my Jaguar very near release date, because I remember it was really cold outside still. I bought the Jaguar from a game store called Megagames in my hometown $249! I only had Cybermorph for atleast two months...but I'll tell ya...when Cybermorph was brand new and original...I thought this was the greatest thing to ever happen to gaming. I spent countless hours flying around collecting pods, and that chic that talks to you was simply amazing. The first cartridge I bought was Trevor McFur, and I was astounded yet again by the beauty of this game. Then AVP came out and I got that on release day! I got to play a demo of it at Megagames a few months in advance...the presentation of that test run left me speechless and anxious for that game..I had to have it on release day. One of the few games in my collection that I actually did purchase on its release day. People just don't understand, for the most part, that at this particular point in history(mid 1994)...these games were state of the art, masterpieces.
  6. I've cleaned the Driving controllers the same way. It requires more concentration to take them apart, but once you open up the assembly, there's a disc in there that needs to be cleaned, and some other contacts. There is originally some type of grease/lube inside these components, as well as the paddles...which is why its important to spray some teflon lube in there....Don't use Silicon Spray...as silicon becomes sticky over time. And try not to spray too much in there either. That white box that contains the parts needs to be pried open very carefully...because it does snap together and opens like a hinge...the plastic is very fragile. And it also has those 6 wires connected to it....the only real problem I've had in the past was sometimes those wires disconnected while I was cleaning it, or opening it up....you just have to make sure you know where the wires go if they fall out of their slots.
  7. I take the pots completely apart and scrub the carbon build-up off of the brushes....then I spray teflon lube on the parts and put everything back together... it takes longer but its not a temporary fix like spray.
  8. Just buy any and all 2600 cartridges you can find. You'll eventually resort to this anyway, as you become addicted like the rest of us. I highly recommend bypassing this testing stage where you pick and choose your games....cuz you are going to want them all eventually anyway. If you are just starting out you are extra lucky...because this is the time where you can even save a buttload of money by purchasing large 'game lots' from the forum, or from ebay without the worry of getting duplicates.
  9. I just picked up an extra copy of this game this weekend, I don't need it but I grabbed it because its hella good trade bait! This one is pretty hard to find, it is complete with case, manual, and the poster that came with it. The poster features the artwork found on the case insert on one side, and on the back there is a display of the 6 different maps playable in the game. I would trade it even up for any one of the following Sega Genesis titles, which must be complete and in good condition: Caliber .50 Double Dragon Genghis Khan 2: Clan of the Gray Wolf Gauntlet IV Liberty or Death PTO:Pacific Theater of Operations Pirates!Gold Space Harrier II Syd of Valis Vapor Trail
  10. I remember those days...when the Jag wasn't everyone's whipping boy. Thanks for these cool articles. I've always thought Trevor McFur had awesome graphics, but this game's flaws lie in the control interface if you ask me. Never could appreciate the use of the keypad for choosing special weapons...the game is too hard and too fast to mess around with that.
  11. Any Genesis baseball games that track season player stats? I have Larussa Baseball and boy is that ever horrible. It does have all those cool statistic cards that came with the game though...those are kinda neat.
  12. That game is hard! I am impressed with the level of detail, and how in-depth the gameplay is with Abrams and 688 Attack Sub. I have both but never play em really...that comes with having too many games I guess. Here's my list I would rather not do without: -Rambo III -Space Harrier II(I need to get this game) -Afterburner II -Streets of Rage II -M.U.S.H.A. -Gain Ground -MERCS -Gunstar Heroes -Risk -Golden Axe I, II -Tyrants Some of those arcade conversions are superb, especially Mercs.
  13. Gyruss rocks on the 5200! Good pickup I say ole chap... ...best music I've heard on the machine as well...the whole production of Gyruss presents the player with an overall great conversion of the arcade game. The farthest I have gotten is Mars...
  14. You guys forgot Ghostbusters Not a launch day game, but it was with the second wave of early release titles(Rambo III, Forgotten Worlds), and certainly before Phantasy Star II. PSII was on the tail end of launch games, everyone was waiting around for that thing. Heck, we had all those sports games before PSII was released. I remember the next big thing after PSII was the release of Sword of Vermillion...and then the big kahuna Strider at a whopping 8 megs($79.99!), Sega bragged. Strider is a great arcade conversion, but it has flicker like Super Castlevania IV(snes) has slow-down. Look at that amazing list of games though...the Genesis has the best launch games ever, especially when they were new. Now we notice the flaws of the games but back then those games were out of this world.
  15. Pocket, thats pretty sweet dude.
  16. PinBot and High Speed are sweet games.... If you have a Jaguar, be sure to get Ruiner Pinball and Pinball Fantasies...IMO those are the top two console pinballs ever, and both on our beloved Jaguar!....I like em even better than the highly esteemed Devil's Crush for TG-16(which is awesome too )...and just look at the value there...for 2 Pinball cartridges, you get 6 tables!
  17. Well, my favorite 5200 games are: -Centipede -Missile Command -Millipede -All 4 Pac-Man games -Berzerk -Defender -Gyruss -Jungle Hunt and about 85% of the rest of the library...
  18. Cobra Kai

    A rare gripe

... in your subjective opinion, yes! opinions are implied anyway, there's no logical reason for someone to be required to write IMO everytime they speak. The 5200 does have the best good to bad ratio anyway, and the 7800 sucks ass, so there.
  19. Thanks for the thumbs up jetset...right back at ya on a great trade Now you need to buy a Millipede repro from the AA store, it's even better than Centipede I think. It's just got more to do, and its not as ridiculously hard as Centipede is.
  20. Don't get into Neo Geo if you can't get over the money issue. It's funny to always mention Neo gamers as elitist snobs with too much money, who also DON'T play the games, but rather just collect them Neo gamers are gamers just like the rest of us guys. I had the same apprehensions about the NEO before I actually dove into it. I kept putting off getting a system because I couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of money required. I always believed that the NEO was the pinnacle of 2D gaming, from my experience in the arcades, and I still do believe that to this day. Once I actually took that leap of faith required to get a system and a couple games, I felt no buyers remorse, I didn't feel ripped off, rather I was reassured by the fact that the games are just that good, and they are worth the money. I quickly realised it wasn't about the cost of the games. I had to put that aside and ask myself "do I want to play the best games, or do I want to worry about money"...well as a gamer the answer is simple. I want to play the best games, so I made the necessary sacrifices to obtain them. All I can say is for me, when I saved the money and bought Metal Slug 3 brand new in 2000 for $285, I thought yeah this is getting crazy...but when I got that game, plugged that huge ass cart into my deck, grabbed the arcade quality controller and seen the exact game I played in the arcade...the $285 was meaningless compared to that experience. This notion that Neo gamers don't play as much as they collect is rather ridiculous, and I don't know where people base this from. I found that for every Neo game I own, I probably would have spent that much in quarters at the arcade, for what I spent on the game to buy it. What you do find in the Neo community, is a more detailed look and more care given to the condition of the games, because yes, they are very expensive. People have the right to know exactly what they are getting when spending hundreds of dollars. I actually find it rather elitist to say the Neo is nothing special. That tells me that you think you've seen so much, your gaming taste is so advanced beyond anyone else, that you simply can't be impressed with the Neo's tiny capabilities. It's easy to look back in hindsight and compare it to the SNES and Genesis, because the leap in technology and capabilities the NEO has over these machines isn't very much when compared to the leaps we see taken today. But back then, it represented, in SNK's own words "A quantum leap in technology". Again though, if you feel that money is the key aspect in gaming, I suggest staying away from the NEO entirely, because it will drive you crazy and maybe bring you to bitterness against the machine. It's never been cheap to play Neo Geo...never. There's a few rich guys who collect every Neo game sure, but I'm not rich at all, I was just willing to sacrifice in other areas to play these games. I hate to use this word, but I think it is a matter of how 'Hardcore' you are, I mean, there are people who will simply not settle for anything less than the actual arcade game, people who have superguns and jamma pcbs. It's not elitist to do that, it's a gamer who does that.
  21. The demand side of Battlesphere is artificially pumped up by people who own 4 or more copies of the game that just sit on their shelf. This is the only game in the entire video game market that I see this behavior with. Supply and Demand theory works here, but it doesn't work in the conventional sense, and it should always be pointed out that there are a few who are keeping many from playing this game, it's certainly not the money that keeps me from playing. It's not just an expensive game, heck Neo Geo games are way more expensive but also much more easily attainable, but people actually hoard Battlsphere. Anyone who thinks they have something unique because they have a $150 game needs to get over themselves, thats an average at best game cost for me lately, I'm not bragging, but seriously, there are people out there that laugh at this Battlesphere hoarding behavior to artificially pump up value.
  22. I'll do an even trade for the Miner 2049er for a working trak-ball...here is a pic, it has some scuffs on it that were there when I bought it used. I have since purchased a better condition trakball, so I can easily let this go. I assume the Miner2049er is loose, thats a fair trade I think, and I'll pay for shipping on my end. If you are interested shoot me an email at [email protected]
  23. I've got a Mint condition Sonic Wings 3 for Neo Geo I'll trade straight up for it.
