  1. $870? Holy cow, I guess that would have been cause for a good ole 'What the Hell??!!?? Looks like I jumped in a little late on this one.
  2. Am I missing something here? Whats so unreasonable? It's only at $56. A Heavy Sixer, with 50 unique titles, new paddles, and new joysticks...geez guys, its not worthless.
  3. Hey davidbrit, I went back to the arcade with the War:FA to check it out again. It was a kit, single player. I'm friends with the proprietor of the Arcade and I had a discussion with him about it. He said he's had a dedicated version of it, and I asked him if it was a triple cab. He says that they aren't triple cabs, but just 3-player linkable. Did you play on an actual single cabinet built for three? Or was it three Solo cabs linked up? I'm gonna go back soon and play it again. I think I can get used to those crazy controls. I tend to want to move the gun control for movement instead of the movement stick. I keep getting confused. I guess they tried to make it like a keyboard/mouse setup on an arcade machine. I also played some Blasteroids while I was there...oh yeah. Oh, and I also played Raiden Fighters, never seen this one before. I assume its a sequel to Raiden II, however the graphics aren't quite as detailed in some aspects, and the powerups are simpler. But I do like the big assortment of planes to choose from. I'll be playing this one for awhile, I love these shooters.
  4. I really appreciate all the feedback guys I was leaning towards Protector first, however I'm leaning towards Hyper Force right now because I've been playing alot of Defender on my 5200 and I'm getting wore out on that type of game right now. But I will definitely get Protector second, or at the same time.
  5. Yeah I guess so Where is this Gameworks you speak of? I'm in Elkhart, IN and I wonder how far Gameworks is from me. I'm like 3 miles from the Michigan border.
  6. I'm gonna guess its Masters of Doom
  7. Yeah, Wolf3D just rocks on the Jag. The scrolling is silky smooth, and I just love the music. I've never played the original PC version, but I've read that the Jag graphics are a little better actually, so that is cool I think, nothing like improvements! Speaking of Raiden II, could the Jaguar handle a game of this stature? I mean, Raiden II has awesome graphics, with lots of little details in the explosions, and out of this world sound f/x. The PSX did Raiden II perfectly, but can the Jaguar/JagCD handle this game? Just curious, I don't really understand how powerful the Jaguar is.
  8. I use to find it difficult to justify buying expensive games. However, after collecting and playing for the NEO GEO AES for the last 4 years, I find it very easy to justify the low cost of $165 for a BS:G. I would pay that in a heartbeat if I got offered. Besides, if you don't end up liking an expensive game, you can always sell it for no loss. I don't see BS:G depreciating any time soon.
  9. If the control wasn't so dang touchy, I would like it alot more. I was hoping for a souped up Lynx version, but it ended up being nothing like it. If someone could hack it and fix the controls, I think this could be a great racer.
  10. Ya know, I didn't pay close attention. The War Final Assault I played was definitely a solo cab, but it could have been a kit. I didn't really look at the artwork to see if it was dedicated or not.
  11. Just wondering, anyone figure out a nice solid way to hold, or keep the Track & Field controller held down? I love to use it, but I just can't figure out a good way to keep it secure while I pound away, it wants to slide around and bounce. I want to use some velcro, but I don't want to mess up my coffee table.
  12. Yeah, thanks for the thumbs up. Also, I lowered the prices on Doom, Ultra Vortek and Rayman. I'll sell the rest of the lot for $100(+shipping) if someone wants the rest of these games. That includes only 1 copy each of Skiing/Snowboarding and Trevor McFur. I count 17 complete games there. Good deal.
  13. I really dug this game when it first came out, it had awesome graphics, and a really good arsenal of powerups. I still like that Magnet weapon the best. In a recent revisitation to the game, I had no fun with it. I feel the ship is too big, and makes it too hard to avoid objects, and it also seems like the speed of your ship isn't quite as fast as it should be, making it even harder to avoid objects. One things for sure, this game is Hard. The sound f/x are just goofy, and if I'm not mistaken, there isn't any background music? That sucks too. If anything, you can't beat the price, this is one of the cheapest games to pick up, so it's not a bad investment at all, but I'd rather just play Raiden.
  14. I've played a solo cab of this, at a local arcade. This game is bitchin, but I suck at it. Too many controls for me.
  15. Hey! I just used my Super Breakout to fine tune my controller. I took off the casing and adjusted the pot mentioned in the other thread. I had really bad jerkiness with my left to right movement on Super Breakout, meaning it was basically moving to damn fast, and I wasn't getting good smooth control. Well, I adjusted the pot, and regained all the control I was looking for. Now my controller movement is silky smooth, with seemingly all the correct levels of sensitivity regarding the analog functions. Thanks sku_u and the others for your input. It's probably not perfect since I don't have a DC, or Pete's Cartridge to test it out, but it's noticeably better all the way around.
  16. Hey thanks for passing that along. That thread did answer some things, but it confused me a little. So according to your response in that thread, Pete's Test Cart wouldn't be what I am looking for. However, a Diagnostic Cart is gonna run me alot more money isn't it? Maybe I should use a Super Breakout or Defender as suggested to help fine tune my port calibration?
  17. Well, I was checking out the screens in the AA Store, and Protector looks freaking sweet! It's totally classic arcade, and looks like a super Stargate or something. And Hyper Force appears to have some really nice visuals as well, plus I could always use another platformer other than Rayman and Pitfall. Hmm...decisions, decisions...I'm leaning towards Protector at the moment. I'll decide tomorrow after some sleep. Looking at the Skyhammer screens, I can't tell what's going on, and I don't think the screens do the game justice, much like Battlesphere. I want to get Battlesphere because everyone raves about it, but just by looking at the screens, I can't really tell whats going on, and I can't judge how good the graphics are, or what the gameplay might be like.
  18. Well, I'm thinking of purchasing a Diagnostic Cart, because even though I have what I assume to be perfect working controllers, I still get some strange response sometimes during gameplay. Like with Galaxian, it seems like my ship doesn't move as fast to the right as it does to the left. I was wondering if my controller port was out of calibration, as I've read on some post here in this forum. Supposedly I can test this with the Diagnostic Cart? I'm wondering is the DC a tool that is easy to use for the laymen? I'm fairly adept and taking things apart and doing the actual labor, however I'm not sure I would understand all the numbers that a Cartridge of this sort would flash me. Does it tell you what to adjust or would I have to present the numbers/readings here and seek an answer from someone more qualified? I would really like to get my old 5200 back in tip top shape, it's my original one and I want to treat it right. I play it alot, but it seems to be showing some wear electronically. EDIT: I was surfing the AA Store and according to the description of Pete's Test Cartridge, this seems to be what I'm looking for. Is this an easy to understand tool?
  19. Well, I had some money to buy a Battlesphere, but it sold to someone else. So I was thinking of purchasing a Songbird game, of which I have yet to play any of these. Are they all really good games, or what? Hyper Force looks like a side scroller action title, which is great, and I have no idea what kind of games Protector and Skyhammer are. Heck I may just buy two of the games, but I also need to buy a 5200 Diagnostic Cart so I can calibrate my controller ports, which I've read on these forums is a great thing to do. Well, I was just wondering if there was a general consensus around here on which of the Songbird games are the best overall? Opinions wanted.
  20. Thanks!, I was checking out your pics and all I can think of is 'Woah'
  21. There was a period when Atari released all those arcade games with that nice graphical style in hi-res, of which my favorites are included: 720 Super Sprint/Championship Sprint Paperboy Roadblasters
  22. The 5200 is going to give you a wider choice, and more direct ports from the classic arcades of the early 80's. Whereas the 7800 will still offer a few arcade ports, some Commodore64 ports, and some original titles. The 5200 is the way to go if you want to get into classic arcade gaming. Personally, I don't even see how it is even arguable which of the two systems offers more in terms of arcade ports, the 5200 wins hands down with both quantity and quality of its arcade ports. There's a couple instances where the 7800 outshines a 5200 counterpart, such as Ms. Pacman, and Joust. But for Centipede, forget it, the 5200 version blows it away simply because it offers analog Trak-Ball control, and the graphics are comparable to the 7800. But some people really love that 2 player mode on the 7800 version, so it's all up to what any particular person prefers, good graphics, sound, and control, or 2 player simultaneous. Comparing Robotron between the two machines is a tough one, on one hand the 7800 version can handle all the enemies alot better, but the 5200 version has cooler effects, and it has the controller holder which makes a whole lot of difference. The 5200 is more nostalgic for me because it's library is almost entirely arcade games, and very very faithful ones at that. Plus the Supersystem has always portrayed an aura of sophistication, and extravagance, like Ranger pointed out, it was the high end machine to have, and it proved that we could have a True arcade experience at home. The 5200's library is high quality, with a low percentage of the games being garbage. There's alot more garbage on the 7800, along with a few great titles. I traded my 7800 away for a Neo Geo game a few years back, haven't regretted it a second.
