  1. I have a spare 50" vizio HDTV sitting in my basement collecting dust, I'm thinking about making it a TATE monitor for Saturn shmups. I mean, I think I just need to secure the thing sideways right?

Yeah @MrMaddog, I think I remember seeing some kind of 90 degree swivel wall mount for just this sort of thing.

Make sure your TV can handle it first, some TV's don't like to be tilted.

Wow, I suggest you give it a try!

It was the first game to make use of polygon enemies

(they look so 3D, that they look like they're coming out of your monitor)

(mind you this was in 1996, when it first came out).

      Pioneer coding techniques, of course...

Yeah, tons of Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM for me.  Never played Quake though.  I'll have to check it out.

In economics class in high school we used computers, and they had Quake installed. To the great frustration of the teacher, many of us played Quake in multiplayer during class.

  3. It's official, we're old! Tune-In has a radio station called 90's CLASSIC ROCK

      @Shawn

That's like, the best, most practical response to the issue, lol, I guess I was kinda thinking that way, but it hadn't quite clarified in my brain. Good Point!

In 40 years, we will all be dead and the "music" that is created today will become "classic roaring 20s sounds".

      MrMaddog

Yah, used to be 90's alt-rock and 70's-80's classic rock were on seperate stations...and now it's 'all' on the same radio station.

It's just too weird hearing a Perl Jam song right after they played an AC/DC one...

  4. I ordered Beastmaster 4K. This never had a Bluray release, so, mega upgrade tech!

  5. I need 2x leader hose for my reels, does that mean I need leader hosen?

  6. I think Scott toilet paper is designed to be anti-theft, because it's so terrible.

  7. This cold weather is great, what's with all the whining?

  8. We took I-75 from Indianapolis all the way to Tampa, and back. I'm generally a confident and when necessary, aggressive driver. I-75 is will put you in your place!

75 through Atlanta at rush hour will age you a couple years for every mile; 5 years per mile if you’re trying to actually get off and into downtown. I actually think following I-24 through downtown Nashville is worse if you’re not aware of the necessary lane changes and merges to make in a very short linear distance, but do it a few days in a row and it’s no big deal.

Couldn't tell you about the football team, we stayed in Madeira Beach.

  9. The computer monitor for my printing press is so old, it has a 'degauss' button

My LCD has a degauss button!

  10. I plan on buying a new Boiler (furnace) this year, and am considering having one of those big natural gas powered generators installed. I have the room in the basement, but I don't know if those can go inside  the house, I think they get hot. Anyone have experience with these? Generac and Briggs and Stratton make quite a few variants

  11. I discovered a scifi show last night called Other Space. Hilarious, but there's only 8 eps I guess. It has Lily the at&t babe as a main character.

No question about it, that AT&T girl is incredibly pleasing to look at. She has one of the prettiest faces I've ever seen.

  12. Started my new years resolution of only buying games from the Atari Age Store in 2021. I pre-ordered Rebooted, Magical Fairy Force and Blaster (5200)

  13. I'm making a pledge right now. It is my intention to only purchase video games in 2021 from the AA store. Did you guys see that store update?

    1. Bixler

      Bixler

HA! I was thinking the same. Will have to limit myself to 1-2 games per month, but... wow. Glorious. With my Xbox GPU subscription I'm set for modern games, anyway.

  14. Screw it. Pitfall is a damn tough game. It appears very simple, but requires pin point accuracy. I don't think I've ever completed all 20 minutes.

I like Pitfall 3D on the Jaguar.   But that said original Pitfall was amazing and ground breaking.   Yeh, never finished it.  :P

There is a map and solution to get all the points in under 20 minutes.  But it requires going the opposite direction I always used back in the day!  Right to left, instead of left to right.

  15. One of those days where all of a sudden, I'm terrible at video games.

Sometimes once you admit you suck,  and just play for fun,  then the pressure is off and you become good!  I like to think of myself as just highly below average (hence No Pressure!)  ;)

  16. Well that's a new one. I just had an update downloaded to my Sony television remote control. I have no idea what it consisted of, and am only left questioning why a remote control needs an update.

    1. Omega-TI

      Omega-TI

If your remote has a sponsored service button it may have needed updating?

  17. Can Activision Decathlon be played with the Track & Field controller? I mean all of it...

  18. "I'm gonna take you to the bank Senator Trent. To the Blood Bank" hahaha one of the worst one-liners ever. Guess the movie.

  19. Watching F.I.S.T right now. This is definitely a lesser known Sylvester Stallone flick, but really good.

  20. Lee Van Cleef is so epic. I'm torn though, is he more or less awesome for wearing the exact same outfit in every spaghetti western? He wears a black duster with a shoulder cape. Almost every spaghetti!

    1. x=usr(1536)

      x=usr(1536)

True, but he broke with both the role and outfits in Escape From New York, though his shirt remained black...

  21. The eye doctor told me to not consider  corrective laser surgery until after my eyes change to needing bifocals. He said if you do it before, at my age (45), you could need it again in 6 months. Makes sense.

    1. john_q_atari

      john_q_atari

After growing up wearing glasses, and now wearing soft contacts for decades, I can't ever see myself going the surgery route.

    2. jd_1138

      jd_1138

My wife's uncle is a prominent ophthalmologist who still practices at age 83 and has like 55 years experience. When I first met him in 2014, I saw that he wears glasses, and I asked if he recommends corrective surgery.  He replied that he'd never get it and never recommends it because things can go wrong. Some people experience horrible pain the rest of their lives after getting it done. Of course this is just the advice of ONE eye doc -- admittedly at the end of his career.  But he's the smartest person in my family. He graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Physics and went to medical school.

I had RK done in, lessee '95.  That's Knives not Lasers.  It was Fantastic!,...Lasted for decades too, but eventually my eyesight went down a bit on its own and I wear glasses (minor "progressives").  I asked about LASIK to correct a mild astigmatism in one eye but the doc said it was too minor to worry about...

  22. Michael Fassbender kind of looks like Peter Cushing.

  23. So, I usually have about 5-6 game consoles hooked up at any given time. Eventually, one doesn't see much play for months, then I put it away and replace it with a different  console. Then, about 2 weeks later, I start craving to play the console that I just boxed up. It's true, you don't miss it until it's gone.

    1. masschamber

      masschamber

makes sense, I personally have only 2 console hooked up at any time (7800 is always in, the other changes), but I have a dozen stored on a coffee table underneath my game table all ready to be swapped out the second I want something else.

    2. Rogerpoco

      Rogerpoco

I go with Masschambers style pretty much.

At my "other haunt", I've been Peer Choice "Most Prolific" for three years running now, which to me means "does the most different things, *pretty well*", tho they don't quite define it that way(I think it's based on..."being entertaining/enthusiastic", lol.).

I really only started playing the classic systems again about 5 years ago, but I have well over a couple dozen now.

I'll get on one primary system, and kinda make a list of things I want to accomplish before "putting it up for a while", but in the meantime I'll occasionally distract myself with another system to break up the monotony.

When I complete or give up on my goals(lol), I'll put the primary towards "the back of the line", pick a new primary, and keep cycling thru, eventually getting back to everything.

Except NES. Christ, I can't score on that system. Really my "main" system, as far as becoming a "gamer"(I remember being "too young" for Atari, but others my Age were good, so I think I was just..."slow".), but it friggin hates me...

I just have everything set up next to my 1702. But then again I don't have that much stuff to hook up. Only  VIC-20, 128, NES, SNES, and N64. I just plug in whatever I want to play whenever I want to play.

  24. Just bought The Herculoids dvd set.

      SlidellMan

I grew up on a lot of Wildey/Toth HB cartoons when I first started watching Cartoon Network. Both men, however, deserved to be paired with writers that were better than what HB, Ruby-Spears, etc. hired.

The Classic!   I used to love that on Saturday mornings!  (I didn't even know or care that they were reruns in the 70's...)
