There's only really one component that gets stressed by using the stock setup, that's the voltage regulator (its not even that stressed at 12 volts input) ... and it probably the most robust active component in the system -

loading times of the NGCD are famous for being horrid, and lets be honest they aint great but for the size of games over a single speed CD rom with the price delta of the time, it wasnt a bad option now days it seems the systems are about on par in terms of price, course the media tween the two are still night and day

agreed, I stated earlier in this thread I actually had a proof of concept kind of sort of mostly functional over our plant's 4th of july shutdown using SRAM and a 8 bit micro, but I do not have the patience of a SainT the whole 7800 is just kind of a junky "glue shit together" design electrically, and even for the era when it was released things like junk on the data bus should not be a thing...but it is and its variable and its ugh

its kind of flakey with roms as well , I can take a home made cart with a game on it and have it work on one machine but not another of a different revision

I have a copy of out for justice on laser disc I do have a pioneer LD700 that I think only needs new belts but haven't bothered to tear apart the maze of garbage to get to them, that's the first shelf load LD player on the market but its beat up a bit and I know the load and laser carriage belts need replacement and it weighs more than my kia ebay tells me this is a 20$ mac with a 60$ psu, over the last 2 years of looking so your not out of range -

ok here we go genesis was doing 3d games before snes was a thing at a reasonable framerate kind of sort of at the end of the snes life they farted out a 3d accelerated game or two, only 1 worth playing and the entire affair was quite a poor showing from both sides compared to the fairly reasonable cost computers of the time now moving from facts to opinion, I have always hated the snes sound, it has this air of upper scale k-mart casio from the era of kurzweil, 99% of the time its very simplistic thin and melodically waffles like listening to a used organ salesman at the sad mall in your local city the yamaha system sega used may have had its low points, and the later red box games just sounded like farts and grunts but musically it could put out if one tried both are good systems though

or on mac computers, its not all that good, its not bad but it was a wolf 3d type game in the age of quake

my 05 wont keep time either (hasnt in quite a while) but yes the last models do not have the cap of death ... course you can only soft mod them and you cant up the ram but neither is a deal breaker, a reflash just has the convenience of using any hard drive instead of models that enable bios lock and ram... in 2019 the difference tween 64 and 128 has mostly been hashed out with better software unless you really want to run linux on the thing -

doesnt matter if they poop they poop -
my setup is an SIO2SD and a 512K ram upgrade (eventually dual pokey's I have all the parts), not even sure the ram upgrade is needed for the majority of software available, but I like demoscene demos and a lot of those want 320k (130 + 256) the SIO2SD is a bit fussy when one is brand new to it but once you get it working its dead easy to handle and serves all my needs (considering almost all OG carts have disk versions or have been imaged in a format that the SIO2SD works with) I have never gotten into the whole OS / Basic rom options, never really saw the point
