  1. no, never got into them, cant get into them now, fidgety little game to me
  2. if you look hard enough in bright light the black cases on the console do have a green tint to them, its stupid dark on the general thread, I love my XBOX, it makes a decent emulator machine, and when you do find the games they are cheap as dirt, and theres a ton of good ones to play Then on top of it, unlike a PS2 where you can still buy new games from walmart.com, all stores abandoned the XBOX stock the second support was dropped shortly after the 360 was settled in, making it seem "scarce" to normal people who wont go to a real game store.
  3. Saying Nintendo is doomed is pointless, been saying that since the 64 and their refusal to get on with the cd format (then the dvd format, and who is going to buy waggle games etc) Do I think Nintendo is heading down a bad path? Yes, but its not like other companies in the industry. Unlike SEGA trying to support 3 dozen machines at once and making obscenely expensive amusement park rides for a near death arcade scene, or Atari trying to support a pile of machines and arcades, both with constant bad decisions, Nintendo is doing what has become the normal for them since the 64 gimick path, which really doesn't pay off. But really folks, Atari and SEGA took a decade-ish to kill off even with a explosive reaction in a highly volatile market with rapidly expanding technology. Today, phht its the era of having a platform last just fine with a little room to breathe for a decade, Nintendo has all the time in the world to react and change to suit their goals. And if they fail, they should be crowned the king of incompetence, after owning a market for nearly 3 decades, having all the time in the world to get their stuff together and STILL failing, but I dont see that happening anytime soon.
  4. I recently got my fist Atari system up and running after getting a new old stock R6507 CPU, for inital tests I jumped a wire to TP5 as guided in this Atariage text file the video was quite dim, and quite unacceptable, so I set about futzing around. when I first got the unit I disabled the RF modulator portion of the circuit, later on I completely removed all components from that section, there is no chance I or anyone else would use it, it causes great interference, and it sucks extra power. Even if I had a "dead" Atari I was still able to see the video generation signals with my scope, though there was nothing in the active portion of the signal. I removed C53 and C54, two axial lead capacitors on the lower right hand of the PCB, instantly my video signal went from slightly out of phase (I have an old scope with special settings just for NTSC video signals) to a nice crisp ultra sharp sync signals and color burst signal. once operational I set about making a clean composite mod using the 4050 buffer IC already present on the Atari motherboard, swapping resistors in place of adding additional circuitry farting around poking various points and referring to the Jr's rough schematics with a trimpot I have the base of what I would like to see out of a composite output. Its still a work in progress, and some more tweaking needs to be done, but I feel its a pretty decent first result mod details, using component markings on my A2600 Jr's motherboard REMOVE: R49 R50 R53 (no pop on my motherboard, but if its there remove it) R54 R41 C53 C54 every component under the RF modulator shield the resistors I used were just standard crappy radio shack 5%'s R49 populate with 1.5k R50 populate with 10k R53 populate with 15k (without R53 you will get "scuzz" on the picture, adding it cleans the picture up quite nice) R54 populate with 120ohm connect the center of the RCA jack to TP5 results at this moment, still need to do a little tweaking Venture: Fishing Derby: (the only games I have ATM for the VCS, just starting)
  5. Rockwell R6532 RIOT chip compatible in the atari 2600, used in commie disk drives and various other systems, new old stock. I bought a known to be dead 2600 JR from ataribian, and got no bit tickling between the rom and the cpu, which left the RIOT chip and CPU suspect, bought this chip NOS with no effect, bought a 6507 CPU NOS and now saved an VCS from the dump. normally its a UM6532, but the R6532 is identical, tested and working fine in my JR, chip was brand new except some minor oxidation on the pins. Never used DIP package IC's have their legs spread out, so in order to fit it into my sockets the legs have been bent in a little to fit, just like any other brand new IC, meaning one less touchy subject for you to deal with. only powered on twice, once to see if my original RIOT chip was the issue and once again to confirm functionality within the 2600. Voltage was applied though a clean regulated current limited lab power supply and a brand new 7805 regulator, which means with ideal conditions. 10$ shipped to any of the continental United States
  6. good luck man, its a nice box, and I added up the cost of the parts and hit what your currently asking for before adding in drives, power supply and case. Outside of memory, this should be able to outrun my machine wich is a 4170 4.2ghz quad core amd FX and a 6870 video card... the phenoms are quite good compared to current AMD offerings
  7. you also need the controller card if you dont already
  8. many used off the shelf chips like the TMS found later in coleco and msx, others used custom solutions made out of parts of the time
  9. I like the idea of kickstarter, I hate the reality of it for every all star cast of kick ass legends making sheer awesome, theres 159,000,000 random Joe's that just picked up love2d yesterday and are going to make the best RPG man ever created! so I tend to just avoid the whole site, and not just for video games
  10. I have an old radio shack 2 button joystick that has both 15 pin for pc and 9 pin for apple II, its meh in quality but does function 5$ + postage
  11. 9 pin DE connector or 16 pin dip connector?
  12. yea the master system version is a port of the sega arcade version, adds more baddies, a fuel guage and good graphics, its a different vibe than the standard versions and is quite fun to me, though there's still a lot of fun in the classic version as well
  13. Apple II, cause its the original but I had a lot of fun with the 7800 version, or the sega arcade versions
  14. Even if you can its sometimes funky, someone told me the reasoning behind it but it sounded like a best guess, and it may depend on how the machine handles its floppies, but I do know I have tried it in the past with less than spectacular results on pc and mac it may be good enough to get something done but it doesnt last long
  15. bump tried a new riot chip, still getting nothing on address lines, getting video out of the system but no function
  16. I honestly do not remember any issues with my 6 button controllers when they came out with my 3 button games, it didnt take long before I started to ignore the mode button on boot (hold mode power on = 3 button) maybe a time or two with rentals, but with nothing I ever owned, and I got my gen in 89, sold it in 96
  17. oh I totally agree, if you need to mask it do it in software, and if you want a long screen its available but that goes against the whole DS thing, and nintendo is very ridged about change, that is why the 64 is cart based, the GC and Wii cant play DVD's out of the box (and the licensing cost is null at this point) They do have this attitude that only they can inflict change in the universe, and if that were true in one point, its certainly not within the last two decades.. the wii does have some good internet apps, but I always felt they were strong-armed into it by outside influences, mainly xbox and set top boxes TBH 80% of our wii's time on is for video streaming via hulu, netflix and amazon, 10% is the virtual console, the other 10% is me playing tiger woods for an hour on the weekends. To me its always been a set top box, with better game support than the other set top boxes
  18. Keep in mind the original was basicly a N64 on a couple chips, the 3ds is a dual 1 ghz arm, most cheap tablets have more horsepower than that, given the state of just basic PSP emulation on PC's I wouldnt hope too much for PSP, and vita is right out (now that I actually look at the differences tween the DS and 3ds) and I don't think nintendo is making a bad decision, given the size its probably cheaper to get 1 high quality screen that just about everyone uses in celphones rather than having two high quality screens that only nintendo uses.
  19. I cant find mine off hand, but its a HP model card, I gave a song and a dance for it when comp-usa shut down. Its pretty nice 2 usb 2.0 ports and it came with a 2 amp wall wart you can plug in if you need to drive a hard drive from it. Usually use it with my 150Mhz pentium MMX dos game laptop to transfer files (though 98) quick scan on ebay pulled up a no name chi-co 4 port for like less than 10 bucks shipped
  20. that's kind of interesting, bet when these things start showing up on the bay all busted up and gnarly looking it will be a cheap source of decent sized LCD screens (think PSP screens)
  21. more watts is fine more amps is fine those deal with the capacity of the supply, the console will take what it needs from that and since most video game systems have an on board regulator a little more volts isnt going to kill it either (though I would not go above 12, cause it starts getting hot at 12)
  22. I dont fully understand we had the DS then the 3ds which only had the selling point of the meh 3d effect now we have the 2DS, which is large and bulky why not just get a DS?
  23. should have been, I have a HP laptop thats ~2005 vintage with USB1.0 ports, once its in your hands its pretty easy to tell, you plug something in, windows will fuss that "this device would work faster on a 2.0 port, click here to see available 2.0 ports" down by the clock, and the resulting list will be empty. course if you have the exact model number it should be trival to look up (its on the bottom of the computer) honestly though I was quite surprised, as I have had many machines down to pentium III's with usb 2.0 onboard. now usb 1,2 and 3 are all backwards compatible, and it may not make that much of a difference, slower transfers from flash drives and a HD webcam that would not work in 720 are the only two things that pop in mind. option B is they made USB 2.0 cardbus cards, and I have one which works really good.
