no I would go back to the 1960's and get in on the ground floor of integrated circuits and ride the wave into the miniaturization of computers, not just watch a toy launch and say thats neat

eh add enough external hardware a 2600 could play quake, so what is a game with no sound in the mid 80's
not much

You don't understand. The early reports about the Xbox One suggest that a game store will need to have special software on its computers that can transfer the rights to used games. Here's more about that:
http://www.videogame...les_report.html
They'll give that software to the big retailers- GameStop, Best Buy, and the like- but probably not the smaller businesses, like Joey's Hometown Game Store, or the skeezy pawn shop downtown. Ordinary gamers certainly won't have access to it... but man will it be glorious when some hacker cracks the system and embarrasses Microsoft in the process!
no I perfectly understand they will need software
put a permanent end to smaller game stores. None of them will be able to afford the computersbzzt wrong, dont play that heartache, computers are so disposable its very common place to fish them out of the dumpster (I rather shockingly do at my apartment complex, most recent being a 2ghz dual core 3gb AMD machine with a blue screen on boot xp install, thats how worthless they are, anything minor and its off to walmart)
even the software wont be all that expensive, your hocking 4.99 used video games that sell to a niche in a 40 - 100 grand a month storefront, not buying your sale

yes you can, I did it to a sony watchman, though it takes some poking around, in a nutshell near the LCD screen you want to find the point where it converts the incoming signal to the RGB signal for the LCD, on my sony it was a composite NTSC to RGB converter chip, and since the RF circuits were on daughter boards I just removed them ... audio is just tracing from the speaker back to an amp chip
-
I cant vouch for the software, but its 2013, you dont need the top of the line gaming rig to run most of anything including games ... the argument that a ma-pa cant buy a used P4 compaq pizzabox for 10 bucks is not an argument.

no the //c is a whole different bear, its all intergrated in a compact motherboard, and it uses newer cmos parts
actually the IIc is a good entry point if you want to grab a box plug it in and take off running, there's just no expansion slots
-
well if someone else doesnt get to it first, Im wrapping up 2 projects currently, then I was going to start on a ps/2 mouse adapter for apple II's but something is funky on my //c's mouse-joystick combo port, but that would be a good time to slip a repair in.
-
its ok it can be fixed (a wire might be able to be soldered on, or a replacement rom to be found or a simple adapter to use a generic rom can be cobbled up)
I would be more than willing to take a crack at it, but its going to be a unforseen number of weeks before I get my plate clear

I have a large pile of stuff on my desk at the moment and I live half way cross country so I cant right now

put a shim behind the cart whenever you want to use it, sounds like something jarred the contacts or solder is cracked
-
nah worst case is you might have killed some ram chips (you would be surprised how tough stuff can be)
and if you did kill them, they are only a buck a pop

no but they have to go in the same direction they came out
one side is marked with a dot or a U shape, make sure they are all pointing the same direction
-
they are in sockets right?
you can carefully rock them out with a flat head screw driver, but try to not bend the pins
and it should be the 24 chips (sounds like you got 48k of ram)

video cable is easy enough, any yellow rca jack cable works
the computer will do a basic power on self test, and there are utilities on disk, but of course to get them on disk you need a functioning computer or have someone send it to you, but if its still not booting it wont help much
you can get replacement ram, but as I stated before, many times if you just take them out and put them back in it will spring to life
-
if you have an 80 column card giving you the ability to display high res graphics, yes, there is the apple II desktop, which is a mac like file launcher and disk manager, or gem which is more like a full OS
to awnser your other question the first apple with a gui was the LISA in 1983, then the mac in 84 the apple II desktop came about in 86 though other mouse applications existed
-
well theres comp.sys.apple2.programmer
as for editors, head to asimov, theres a 1000 of them, the handful of people here are not the first to ever program these things
-
I would agree, outside of basic low-res stuff the apple gets extemely convulted, any arcady game that has lots of motion and keeps a decent speed is a monumet to talented programers

A used market is necessary for a healthy new market. I mean, seriously, how many people buy a new console and nothing but new games?just about everybody before the late 90's, on occasion you would find a small bin outside of EB with copys of last years sport games, or something in the traders post newspaper, but yea used games? there wasnt a funco and 2 gamestop and a game trader all within a 3 mile radius like there is today

The FX-888 is essentially a re-design of the old standby Hakko 936 model, a soldering iron that's ..... The FX-888 uses T18 tips, where the 936 uses 900M tips.seems that's a no, but you can find just about any style tip in the appropriate size (from hakko)

sometimes if you just remove and reseat the ram it knocks off years of oxidation and it will spring back to life

I like the JBC stations as well, its what we started using at work, but they are out of my budget hehe

good thing is that it does not sound like anything major is damaged, and its a good lesson for all of us ... even if it seems obious to you, its not
I should have stated to put them back in the same orientation, its obious to anyone who deals with electronics in any level, but BOOM here we go cause its not obious to someone who doesnt mess with electronics, and thats my bad.
