  1. I don't want to rub salt, but just a reminder for new players, if you are looking for an item, and someone pops up out of the blue with zero history offering exactly what you want for the price you want it for, don't be excited, be alarmed On the flip side, on a different site some guy was selling an SX for what I thought was a high amount (10 or so years ago), so I kind of jokingly offered him 150 bucks for it, which was ~25% what he was asking, and he instantly accepted it, alarm bells went off, yea ok this guy wants a fancy steak dinner and the 64 was a lie
  2. I stopped sharing a lot of my non video game - computer related projects years ago due to seeing them pop up on eBay (happened a few times), My wife enjoyed making custom content for the sims(x) there for a long while, but would always have her stuff hotlinked to "my" server from an assortment of advertisement attack bot sites, until she kind of quit the community and just does it for herself, and her sims buddies, had that site pretty locked down too, sometimes I couldn't access it It is quite discouraging
  3. I am 3 days late, is this still available, and can you cover shipping to Burundi?
  4. yea its great until its lawn mowing season, one of the post's holding your front porch up isnt touching the bottom, water heater floods your garage, and its raining in your bathtub (not all at once just a sample of the "joy's")
  5. im not sure about invision or how systems work in 2022, when I was doing content / community management sites 15-20 years ago at best you added a header or footer to every PM, at worst you were seeking or writing custom code otherwise you put a post quota on new users and place a sticky to email the admin for legit early PM access, and the yahoo's would just randomly post on dead thread's "oh that's so awesome" or "thanks for sharing I did not know that" or whatever to bypass the quota, hopefully someone noticed and reported but usually on post X where PM's unlocked "HEY YOU LIKE KOREAN GIRLS" to every account ever made forum software is leaps and bounds from where I started off at in 2000, but they are still pretty much the same, not impossible but as the admin /owner of a site you want to strongly believe the best in your community, not make new people feel unwelcome, and and error on the side of grace ... then balance it with reality, capability, and support from the maker's / users of the software you are using
  6. yea im out, just spent 1500$ on stupid rubber boots that go over the plumbing vents though the roof, guy says "gettin pretty old but maybe next year" not more than a month later its raining in my bathtub
  7. I came from the world of integrated CMS systems, but it seems that there could be an application form for those situations, in my past administrating though it just causes DillHole@booger.net to spam in order to reach quota, but hopefully the reports flood in
  8. If I had one I would donate it as I have been cleaning house ... but I have never had an ST
  9. yea private emails and Friends and Family are 2 huge red flags as a buyer, hate it for you though ... what were you looking for (doubt I have it but ...)
  10. its just a PM saying dude has this hit him up DoucheCanoe@gmail and work out the details
  11. yea I mean its not, but I think its safe to assume most people would equate "video game system" as "theres a box with a computer in it, here's some media with software, lets jam them together and BLAM your playing Greendog" that happened with the Fairchild Channel F (76), then Atari VCS (77), Bally Asctrocade (78), and whatever else I am missing. And that's where I say generations is a rabbit hole, da-pedia has those listed as second gen systems, but what is first, dedicated pong consoles, most of those are computerized setup's with different variants baked into logic , the odyssey? That thing is 100% analog and its cards were basically setting jumpers for things like timers and oscillators, there's projection games before that... and of course nerds fiddling with mainframes and mini computers ... it can never end Anyway I don't want to start a debate or derail, other than the choices I listed above, maybe I would start looking at some of the 8 bit computers (like an atari XL or XE, or C64) for games I like the Atari computers, since they made them so long, something like a 65XE can play games that go from "decent upgrade from VCS 2600" to "this is better than the NES version" on one box... though it is a computer not a console (cough XEGS, ya I know it was made in the late 80's but it can run 1979 atari computer carts)
  12. 2600 is probably the safest bet for "first gen program on a cartridge" system ("generations can start a whole trip down the rabbit hole, so lets start there) as they sold a billion of the things and the library is huge so everything about them is relatively inexpensive and every inch of power has been sucked out of them for some impressive (for an atari 2600) games Intellivision is a upgrade when comparing its games to the earlier 2600 games but its not a HUGE step up where you start getting into the 2nd gen systems... Atari console(s) at this time are decent but quirky and not that robust, had small libraries and didnt sell that well ... I am a fan of the colecovision, that is what I had growing up until I bought a SEGA genesis. That system is getting close to the "arcade experience in your home" the controllers suck having a short flat disc joystick (but at least its not flush like the int, it does stick out) but one with decent contacts is quite playable. The Z80 cpu and Texas Instruments powered audio / video can get sort of close to the earliest of NES games and was used in a handful of other systems, like the first couple sega home consoles, and MSX computer line, so its not uncommon to see ports pop up as new content. controllers, just keep in mind, a thought like ergonomics... even in the NES days, was some radical hippy nonsense. They are going to be 40+ years old and pretty much all of them used stamped sheet metal snap domes of some sort, that has work hardened to the point of being darn near dead. There are tricks to get them working better, there are rebuild kits (I sometimes sell one for the 2600 joystick, its quite the improvement) but unless your totally in for the whole retro experience ** the "Atari standard" joystick port lasted a while, and a sega genesis gamepad will plug directly in 2600 and some other consoles, can be modded for colecovision use, and decent modern replacements are cheap and plentiful *and a beefed up hotrodded version as the master system **which to me means get the crappiest TV, stick it in a uncomfortable corner of the spare junk room, and have parents who refuse to run the AC in July with an open window so all you hear is KABOOM, crickets and frogs as you hunch over in a wooden chair sweating your butt off
  13. I am interested ... just trying to work out how to pay for it when our family is in "lean mode" to do some repairs to the house ....
  14. I was window shopping on the bay a couple days ago and dang even core systems were fetching a pretty penny
  15. I have maybe 5 or 6 as I tend to keep some back just incase someone gets a dud. I did post that I am doing a huge batch but that's not until June at least as I have to secure funding and start prepping for long lead times and they use just stupid flat tactile switches not microswitches, which I used to use by soldering them on the OG board ... I just made the drop in's (to fund a computer build cough) so that the average joe doesnt need to fiddle with soldering switches on a board that was made for snap domes (as it can be fidgety)
  16. https://web.archive.org/web/20130924232325/http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3964901 they used to sell a metallic conductive paint marker
  17. looking forward to the results of crimping a card edge male connector will go as it was acid etched foil entering a spring loaded female contact... does this "friend" only expect to play that one game ever
  18. I have been indifferent to this product and honestly thought its time had came and gone Now that is in the news again I am still racking my brain on how it cost so much, and where the heck did they source a non backlit screen of that resolution in mono? went into rant mode, concussion is you can pay a hobby modder like me postage and a couple beers and get an absolute shi+ ton of games spanning the GB, GBC, and GBA life in one unit that "looks" HD to our modern eyes, providing you are willing to shell out for a gameboy IPS mod (when available) , game carts or a flash card (last one I did was 90ish dollars without a flash cart and I had to buy the gameboy) Where's this things software and why would I want to look at a 2022 device with a 1990's screen?
  19. looking to get rid of my last "dead" 2600 it needs a TIA chip (CO10444) for a reasonable price, willing to trade but I don't have much of anything interesting as I am not a collector ... I have a few of my 2600 joystick boards, some random dos PC junk... few misc 2600 chips (mostly 6532 RIOTs) OR maybe you want to donate one to acquire a nice looking composite + stereo modded Vader at a discount? dunno hit me up! My elder, 6 year old, and I play "VS" games on my light 6er ("peanut" just tries to eat the joystick ... she will be 2 this summer, but thanks to big sis, can somewhat run amazon video on the tv), this vader has been a shelf queen ever since I stole its TIA to repair another 6er for a forum member Thanks!
  20. that Toshiba laptop doesn't really look funky on the screen, that's probably a DSTN screen (think game gear) that a lot of laptops featured back in the day as TFT screens cost a pile of money (my first tft monitor is, still have it, a 18 inch and it cost me a grand in the year 2000, just for the screen) for gaming though its going to smear like a game gear, maybe not AS bad but still ... if it lingers I might take it, does it have a sound card? I am guessing yes but the speaker grills are on the front of those era machines (looks like there is a mic on the screen)
  21. may require some fiddling as those single transistor amps can be of various quality
