to be fair using a ras pi as your baseline is like being amazed cause up till this point you have been driving a ford fiesta then saying ya know what? this Bentley is more plush
of course it is, the best pi on the market is slower and lower spec than my 2013 office pc, so yea it takes forever to start up and you gotta tweak everything to make the most out of it (not to mention retroarch in itself makes the entire process denser)

power supplies have been universal for like 3 decades now

Just saw the Atari VCS email today that they are guaranteeing delivery before before Dec 24th for pre-orders (not to be confused with Indiegogo orders that will ship in October). This is a huge announcement since that they are pinning down delivery to be in time for a Christmas for the launch of the console.
yea just like last Christmas!

ISO has very little cleaning properties, yes it works great as a mild solvent but its gotten a mythological reputation as a cleaning agent ... its a disinfectant and a solvent.

yea PS2, wii XBOX360,PS3,ps4,xbox one ... maybe more every single time its "here's this shiny new console tower wink wink this is what the cool kids do!" (btw you can lay it flat so you can fit it in your entertainment center and not worry about the cat knocking your 500$ toy onto the floor, if you want to be an old man about it)
I don't get their obsession, its like they are trying to compensate for not being a pc or something

Ya I'm going to have to take this drive apart so give me a couple days to report back hopefully someone can make them in the meantime (it's clogged with dust, hack took me a couple hours to find it in the bins)

neither does the tower form factor, never get why the companies push for tower video game systems, like every single thing ever connected to my tv is flat, has been ever since stuff has been made to plug into a tv... what's the point of a tower that doesnt fit anywhere on any entertainment / tv stand

No shit? what would make it more powerful, maybe the 16 bit everything? I once picked up a C64 and a playstation 3 to compare it to the Adam, the playstation 3 is a more powerful gaming system.

for me its worth 20 bucks to buy a junky old core 2 duo system with IDE and floppy controllers, get the shit done as fast as possible and go back to my retro system
which is exactly why my garage machine is a AMD Phenom X2 system with a bunch of PCI slots and legacy support, though any desktop that supports legacy bios will boot into DOS (with restrictions naturally) including the brand new 6 core Ryzen system I made my wife within the last month
hell pay shipping Ill send you a core 2 duo machine with IDE ports, make backup's, take care of your maintenance just by yanking the drive and getting on with it, save you 140 bucks and days of moving shit via command line

I stopped in a goodwill on the way to work this morning

Various other sources suggest that simply heating the plastic to a critical temperature in a stabilized water bath is sufficient as well.
8 bit guy is a moron and has pretty much ruined everything he has attempted until
Quote8bit guy has moved on lately to putting his stuff in big tubs with just a water solution mixed with pure hydrogen peroxide, then leaving it out in the sun. I haven't tested this; I think it should work and it sure seems to for him, and he likes it because it gives even coverage. The problem is just that depending on what you're retrobrighting, you may need a really big plastic tub and a lot of water and peroxide. Given the dilution, you may need an entire bottle of peroxide to do something like a computer case.
yes I have been doing this for years it works fine if you have the tubs and intense sunlight. I just go to the dollar store and fill a shopping cart full of crap peroxide, and toss in a little generic oxyclean
QuoteFor a long time there was a thought that you needed a "catalyst" like oxyclean for things to get started.
Never heard that one, I always read it was to boost the oxygen levels of the solution, and it does make a huge difference if you are using diluted down first aid grade peroxide. Otherwise most people go for weapons grade stuff, and laundry booster isnt going to make a difference
QuoteI have seen many classic computers ruined with streaking and blotchy retrobrite jobs. Not to mention it makes the plastic brittle. Most are quickly put up for sale on ebay. I would just leave it alone.
Yes most of those people have followed the 8 twit guy's methodology, whether knowing it or not. For a failed retrobrite job simply...
- Use the strongest peroxide known to man, if you do not have to fill out anti terrorism forms its not good enough.
- Mix it with extra crap to make the creme as thick as possible, and only do two maybe three stirs MAX
- Make absolutely no attempt to apply an even or smooth coat with a popsicle stick
- Loosely toss some plastic film on top and assume moisture can no escape
- Toss the lot in your driveway, in Arizona, during the summer, leave unattended for 12 hours
- Hose the mess off, congrats, you just turned a dark grey Osborne cover in to a powdery, streaky, warped bleach white, piece of garbage
I have never had any issues with streakyness or brittleness with the liquid baths, it just takes forever and a lot of liquid

I'm an OG backer of the new VCS/800/400 (or whatever it's called now) and never really knew the difference between IGG v. Kickstarter and each's hurdle / barrier to entry. Of course, now I do, and would never ever ever back anything but a Kickstarter
dude its the same thing, kickstarter just requires you to have an example, it could be a pocket calculator in a cardboard box... cha ching kickstarted! Not that its any of my concern what you piss your money away on, but FFS quit pissing it away on wishes and promises for crap that doesnt exist

New Atari Console that Ataribox?
in Atari 2600
Posted · Edited by Osgeld
well considering every gameplay video of the system has been fake, so obvious even we can see it, what do they expect? What's not been fake is the photo's over the last year or so ... they got some, very few plastic boxes sitting in a factory very thoughtfully shot...
FFS anyone can do that, just send some cad files to smart prototyping or a billion other companies on that side of the ocean and yea you too can have some people in a factory making your shit, its not hard I have done it 5 times in the last decade as a one man contractor in my spare time out in the garage
doesn't mean you have tens of thousands of units getting ready to ship, it means you have a few thousand dollars for a turnkey op to whip out some soft tooled examples. Hell soft tools are only good for a hundred or so shots, how many do they claim to have? Oh 96 that's convenient considering failure rate.
