Just the lowest and cheapest thing I could think of

I never understand this obsession with having 100,000 boxes hooked up to a tv just to play colecovision and 2600 ... IN HD when a 2001 era nodded Xbox does the same thing for every system up to like ps1 for nearly 20 years Oh this Do dad is FPGA thats a thing and its hardware! Only cost 800 grand and buuggy but its got cores n shit

I have no doubt, but that's not what I said, its not uncommon for a computer to "support" a video format, then chokes running 480p or 720p youtube. So for local sources it might be fine, streaming media is much heavier compressed, and that's kind of one of the selling points, it streams netflix for mom, it does 4K HDR will it do both ... lol sure it will, gfl with that Reading is not your strong suit, I personally think it will be having issues with dreamcast emulation, but again what I said is XBOX 360 QUALITY (not emulation), hell even a 2006 era 360 can run boarderlands 2 faster than 12FPS, sure its using a lot more power to do so, but so far that's not much of a gee wowzers for the ataribawx Not really when one can slap together a AMD Athlon 300GE or even a 240 for 50 ish bucks on a mini itx board and have 2x the performance @ around 200$

Yea but I kind of want the clock, flip flaps are the bomb

I use low spec computers all the time, just not in the living room, even the embedded ryzen stuff is really only useful for embedded things, like running a freestyle coke machine or a redbox. I recently had a polite argument with a colleague at work, says we need 3,000$ industalized i7's, I said what for, the computer is only run one application in its entire life, and its a labview program. That's a great use case of something like whats going into the ataribox ... living room gaming, its going to struggle with more demanding emulators, its going to stuggle with 4k content if its heavily encoded, its going to struggle with xbox 360 era games at equal or lower quality ... even the full size G series ryzens struggle with e-sports games at current resolutions and quality expectations dunno, shrug

back in the late 90's / early 2000's I used to buy cannon printers as brown box refurb units People would buy them, use up all the ink, send them back, get cleaned and sell them refurbed for 25$ with new ink, I would buy them, use up the ink, scrap them for parts and toss the rest and get another. This went on for about 6 printers.

2017 is when this shit bang started, they should be working on gen 2 at this point and yet, Next spring, we really really promise this time (idiots)

They would not even notice, Atari is not even a blip in a summary for a company like walmart, and I am sure it happens all the time ... cause to be in walmart you pretty much say your going to ship something and let them take 70% of the profit, and if you don't well they are walmart so like they give a shit if your little piddle squat operation chokes

really? I have to be the guy?

M2 slot doesnt mean it has to be a NVMe drive, it could be sata which is the same cost as a 2.5 inch sata drive, and depending on what key configuration may not even support the PCI express NVMe drives at all earlier this summer I was given about 6 SATA M2 drives and was having trouble selling them at 30 bucks a pop for 256 gig units most of them going for best offers of near 20. quick rant, if your system has a bootable M2 slot and you use a 2.5 inch you should be mocked, it drives me nuts that all the nice computer cases these days omit the "antiquated" optical media options but have no less than 38 2.5 inch drive locations ... sorry GTA5 didn't come on 2.5 inch sata drives, it came on DVD when my best internet was 1MB/s and looking at a 60+ gig game /rant

Dunno what a fuzzy quesadilla is but it sounds dirty

yea ... but Atari

problem with casual / mobile is you are never going to sell them a system, ask nintendo, they happened to do it once over a decade ago grampa got to golf timmy got monkey ball, it was a huge success for a couple years everyone moved on and nintendo made 2 tablets of varying success ( switch being up for debate) keeping in mind consoles sold != console success how many whee's got bought, a fuckton, how many games were sold past wee sports in comparison to its big boy pants competition? and left in a junk drawer at grandma's house along with her 720p plasma that no one cared about 1 year after it became cheap

something may come out, but consider that this thread has been running since 2017 and now up to "mear moments" until already delayed 3 times release ... I wouldn't ignore the burgers on the BBQ and no I would not say engineer, I would say architect, aka the putz that makes it look pretty, not the sap that has to make that design actually work

Especially nowadays, choose X86 or ARM, great now choose a CPU and get working on software, that's the harder part, you can always upgrade the CPU at a later date

Yes we have no gay's today!

all made while this thread has been active (well to be fair the coleco chamelon was a started a bit before this thread, but wasnt finished until this thread started) PS all 3 machines came in at a total of around 1000 dollars if I include labor, and the nintendo has about the same horsepower as the slated VCS, who wants to chip in 3 mil? bet I could make a few of those for that kind of money
-
what to you teach them?

Yea I had been saying from very early on, forget the stupid console, I have a billion ways to play netflix and pac-man I want the controller. But of course recent event's show us its just a thumbstick in a box so now I don't, but they had an idea and entered a quagmire
-
when I think Atari VCS I think cutting edge 3d graphics ... just sayin

ok to be 100% realistic boot it on a 3 year old intel nuc HDMI computer on a stick and there you go, cause that's essentially the platform they have gone with, intel, amd whatever its something that's going to be nailed at 100% any time an application needs the cpu you can do that just fine if you have dedicated software, see phone's and current closed ecosphere devices like firestick or apple TV, but bubba aint going to download ubuntu frosty unicorn shit LTS off the web and have it run well
