  1. Hello everyone. I've been on and off over the years with TRS-80 emulation. I used to own a model 1, with 16K level II rom and a tape deck, monitor, no expansion box but I had this Aculab Floppy Tape unit ..... I understand most people would own, or at least think of, Exatron when it comes to floppy tape.

Which brings me to my question .... in emulation (TRS-32) .... what commands are used for loading and saving floppy tape images?

(I remember I used to be able to load the games but this was years and years ago!)

Have a look at this page, I think it will answer your questions:

    http://www.trs-80.org/exatron-stringy-floppy/

Do you have the esf.rom for it (to use with the emulator)?

  2. Yep, that's it! Those games were simplistic, but still fun. I didn't really play too many games on them back then because it was a school computer. They were primarily used to learn BASIC (along with the Atari 400). We did manage to sneak a game in now and then though while the teacher was busy.

I think maybe Stellar Escort was another game, along with Galaxy Invasion and Super Nova. Those Big Five games were the only games I knew about on the TRS-80.

  3. I completely forgot about CrossOver for the Mac. Not sure I want to go that route though but at least it's an option.

I'm sure Atari800MacX is fine for my purposes too. I'm only a part-time Mac user really. I use a lot of Windows based emulators to limit the actual running time of my real hardware.

    Thanks for the information.

  4. Sorry, to answer your question directly: I have to say I don't know anything about that emulator, nor do I have a Mac. Isn't there a port of Atari800 for Mac though?

Thanks for the reply. It was my understanding that Atari800MacX was the port of Atari800 for Mac OS X. I suppose I'll have to look into it further.

I think maybe they ported it to use Cocoa (OS X native API) vice SDL.

Doesn't seem to be that many people here who use it, so I'll just haver to give it a go and see how it is :)

Maybe Atari800 will compile directly on the Mac, I haven't actually tried that yet.

  5. I'm normally a Windows 7 user with Altirra for my Atari 800 emulator, but I also own a Mac Mini.

I'm trying to find alternatives for the emulators I use on Windows and learned about Atari800MacX.

Does anyone have experience with this emulator? It doesn't seem to have been updated in a while.

Would like to know what others think about it before I waste a lot of time with it.

    Thanks.

  6. ...

Now since I'm a total Newb with the TRS-80 emulation and have not played with a TRS-80 since around 1985, please be patient with me while I get re-acquainted with everything.

I now have a couple of questions:

    a) Is there a PC program out there that can remove programs from all the different image types and different operating systems and put them on another disk? If so, what's it called and where do I find it?

    b) Where is the best place to download .DSK images that will work in this fantastic little emulator?

    ...

Check out TRSTools for Windows also by Matthew Reed: http://www.trs-80emulators.com/#Utilities

And to answer the question on where to get disk images, I use this place: http://www.theoldcomputer.com/

    Hope this helps you out!

  7. ...

I'm not sure if I should venture into repairing this printer or not?

I can't answer that part, but I can say Best Electronics has brand new (old stock) printer mechanisms for sale still. Or at least they did when I got my 820 in June of 2014:

    1 820 Printer Mechanism CA014701

    U$D 29.95
1 820 Atari US Field Service Manual 82 pages FD100048
    U$D 20.00
I'm afraid they don't have the plastic cases though.

  8. Yeah, I wish I had more time to play this morning, but I have a few things I need to do before I leave for work.

I can see that this is going to be a big black hole for my extra time!

Right, I know what you mean!

You should be able to use a Windows (USB) joystick with the emulator as well, although I haven't actually tried it yet. I just use the keyboard.

  9. SUCCESS!!!

I found a Model III ROM and....

Now I just need to find a few disks loaded with Retro-Nostalgia Goodies!

    THANKS sm3

    Wow awesome!

    Have fun with it!!

I should note that the model3.rom I posted is from that emulator in the posts I made above. While it seems to work, I can't guarantee it any further because I'm not sure where it came from. The ROMs I use with TRS32 are copied from my real TRS-80s and I don't own a Model III unfortunately.

  10. Hey, thanks.... I'm HALF-WAY-THERE now! :)

The emulator loads, and it TRIES to load the disk images, the one on the screen fouls up, the other one simply has a blank screen and does nothing.

Cool, OK. I believe your problem now is that those disks are for a Model III. You had mentioned a Model III initially, so that is what I provided for you.

Put your model3.rom in the directory, change the "Computer:" to Model III, Level II and then try those disk images again.

TRS-DOS 1.3 is Model III only. Model III can read Model I disks, but not the opposite.

  11.

No, and it should work. I renamed the file, but it still will not let me access the directory. :_(

Looking at your screen shot again, I see you have selected a Model 1, Level 1. I'm not sure that ROM is for Level 1 BASIC. Try changing the system to a Model 1, Level II. And same if you are using the Model 3. Model III, Level II.

And make sure the ROM is named model1.rom and not trs80model1.rom

  12.

No, and it should work. I renamed the file, but it still will not let me access the directory. :_(

Hmm, and you have the correct ROM in the directory for the model you have selected in the "Configuration..." menu correct? I mean, you have a model3.rom in there and selected and chose "Model III, Level II" in the "Computer:" section of the "Configuration" menu?

For mine, I made a directory called ROMS under my TRS32 directory (under MyDocuments) and that is what I click on with the "ROM image path" selection under the Options menu.

  13. Okay, I finally found some time to devote to the install, but I cannot seem to get the path to the ROM's to install. What you see below is as far as I can go. I cannot get into the folder to select an individual ROM file. Am I overlooking something obvious here? I've run it as administrator as well nothing seems to work. My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit, but I doubt that should as the program wants to run.

    Thanks!

You get it work? See my post above this one if not.

  14. There was also another one I really loved, you came down from a space ship, landed, picked up an astronaut and re-docked with the ship while avoiding asteroids. After all these years I've forgotten so much, it'll be fun to re-connect some of those old brain cells together.

I believe that game was "Meteor Mission II". I added it to the trsdos1.3 disk image for you. There is a note that came with it stating the high score doesn't work, but at least you can play it.
