128k, I don't really know this Doctor, I probably should-- but regardless, you make a good point.
See the comment that was made below by TPR. This was not made by Fred.
This was made by the MODERATOR of ATARIAGE.
This is the FACE of this site! Should we not hold TPR to a higher set of standards as the one entrusted to the keys to the site -- the keeper of policy?
Quite honestly, I one of my employees of Coleco ever talked to a client, supplier or co-worker in this fashion, he would be terminated immediately. And this is just one of many attacks that were incited or carried out.
Albert can you help us understand this a little better? Is this what you set out to create? Or do you possibly think that threads like this are a black eye on your site considering that your own moderate fans the flames, speaks to your users with such distain?
Should the FACE of the site be allowed to use the site to further a personal vendetta over a private business disagreement?
Albert, YOUR agent publicly incites your users to attempt to bully and personally attack people. Then they actually boost about it!
Albert, you have a voice here.
I have requested that your MODERATOR to STOP a number of times.
The harassment continues. One reader or member attempt to log into my Instagram last night. One reader or member attempted to delete my eBay items and who else knows what.
So 128k, when you say, be careful who you hang out with, i urge you to reconsider which side of the line you are truly on.
Most of you probably have kids who you hope to share your love of gaming. You want to get your kids involved with AtariAge. Is this the type of behavior that you want them to see. Do you want to teach them that its ok for their friends to gang up on people over persoanl disputes on Facebook??. What if it was YOUR kid who disagreed with the MODERATOR, the HEAD of the site. You know, the one who is supposed to keep the peace. How would you feel if the moderator said to him. "You all can kindly fuck right off" and you shove it as far up your ass as you can get it.
Please note that you ALL have a voice and a decision here. Every time we get close to resolution, we get great write ups and understanding things go a certain way. I can see that you reeeealy want to voice your opinion, but you don't.... why?
Oh I can see why you are all afraid. You seeee what happens when you don't fall in line (Can someone get me the Apple 1984 commercial, i'm busy up on my stump). What's happening here has happened on other sites with the some folks. You can do that research yourself.
If you feel like you would be victimized if you disagree, feel free to jump on our page were your constructive opinions (not your trolling) will be appreciated.
Unfortunately, as i said before, I don't plan on having someone Bully me or the people around me, or kids that i don't even know, or people that work for me, or with me.
I'm going to take a wild guess here and figure that some of you were bullied in school. The bully attempted to gather support before going-in on someone.
Correct?
You have two options here. You can join the ridicule, and the false accusations, or you can speak up. Hell, you can even ride the bench for all i care. But joining in the jokes and the going on other pages changing info, making fake profiles. That makes you a coward.
I'm sure a number of you watched some bully movies. The bully looks pretty stupid when everyone stops listening to them. Doesn't he?
When you get called to school and your kid is the one picking on kids, how you feel? When YOUR kid gets picked on how do you feel?
If anyone wants to talk to me direct. PM me. If you have a concern we can work it out as grown adults.
I've never backed down to a bully face to face, so I'll be damned if someone behind a keyboard is gonna make me sweat.
If you can read through these pages and the CVF site and not see this as an organized personal attack, then we will most likely never agree. The fact is, that most of you are reasonable and would have resolved this long ago.
Quite frankly, if i was Albert, i'd hit the reset button and have a long sit down with the head of the show who is running UNCHECKED with statements like the one below. Bad look. Real bad look.
The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice. -MLK
Hey Chris,
I think I should step in and give you a couple of comments. Professional Courtesy here.
First, I think it would be a big mistake to spin this situation and try to turn it into Albert's fault. That is going to backfire 1000x.
I suggest Coleco takes an apologetic position towards everything and everyone, and honestly AA now too. This should at the very least cauterize the damage and stop it from spreading.
A couple of things I've learned over the years is that you don't piss off the Internet and do not (for ANY reason) try to pick a fight with the Internet. There is no scenario where you as a person or Coleco Holdings as a company are going to win.
Right now, the best you guys can do is Damage Control. If there are personal attacks to you here, it is best to ignore them; What damage can that do to you? If the G.I. Joe comments are false and Hasbro has indeed allowed people to sell re-cast parts/figures; then good, there is nothing to worry about; no need to come and attack an already angry community. Again Backlash. If that is not true (Hasbro allowing that) where this is a learning experience.
I appreciate this site and Albert running and your post has triggered me signing in a replying (I was resting watching TV with my Wife) . I think you are playing with matches trying to spin this backlash towards Albert's Fault.
Cut your loses, try to work to gain the community approval again. That is the best you can do now.

Gotcha on both. The pic yeah I agree, the box full per listing I think user can flag those listings or something like that to let support know that. I agree that pic must be of the item only.
-
I just looked at Gamegavel.com for the first time ever. I don't like the way the listings are laid out. The images should be cropped a certain length and height so all the rows and columns should line up(except when you actually click on that persons item then click to see the image for better detail, just the thumb in the original listings you scroll thru). I don't know why that bothers me but it just does, as it makes it look more professional when it is all the same. The properties of a persons pic they upload shouldn't affect how it lays out on your website when displaying the items. The way I would do it is keep the spacing the same with the columns and rows which would all be the same width and height(including the third box over to the right which is for advertisement, as long as it has that wording at the top which says advertisement don't see a problem there, and also you probably get more clicks that way if which is good if using affiliate marketing).
Also the very first page of featured items is full of pics of ONE game for sale by individuals that are posting images of games by the box fulls. The shouldn't be allowed to do that.
Yeah one of the things fore sure is going away is that Ad block on the body as well as the 4 platform blocks on the bottom.
I don't get the last part of the box fulls?
-
May be block seller would be more appropriate.
-
It would be very hard to block items, because we wouldn't be going with SKU item database. But definitely blocking buyer is a good idea.
-
Talked with the weaster today. Showed me around the admin backend I can see the userbase. I was thinking of changing platforms but doing that really would make everybody lose everything lol. So I asked the webmaster to give me a cost for implementing some of things I liked that were talked about here.
Everything will stay as is, no changes on accounts but will do purge non active users that won't list withing the time frame we request.

This is what I meant to say in my previous post...

You know,
We've wanted to do a magazine way before Mike launched Retro. Slowly planning etc, then he launched the KS and was successful. So we dropped plans because someone else already had taken over the idea.
I could have launched a competition but what I was I going to call it? Vintage? Classic Games magazines? Retro is the name people associate with older games. That is why there is a semi-successful Retro Gamer in the UK.
So if I wanted to use the Retro word in a magazine; I needed to acquire this, why? because of trademark. It has a trademark awarded and live for video game magazines for the word Retro. So It will be cheaper to buy this and have some back catalog and left over stock to sell than get a cease and deceit.
But yeah, I am unreasonably insane with a toxic waste selling a trashcan on fire.

iceman - you really need to drop it. Buyers have an advantage on ebay, and that's the way it should be. Your attempts to debate and rage otherwise are just childish.
My username there is the same as here - go ahead and block me.
@Piko - sorry, there's not much positive I can add because this all sounds like a terrible idea and poorly thought out. You bought the name GameGavel, and with no plan at all, are entertaining the idea of totally removing auctions? Auction... gavel... there's a connection there. Like you said, you just want the traffic that the name GameGavel generates, and I don't see how even an UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT sign over the front door is going to help at this point.
The only thing that I have is a plan. I'm not going to describe it because it could be easily copied. So yeah, I guess we'll just have to wait to see if it works. If it doesn't no harm no fault, I'm not going to scam people.

Paypal solution to embed "products" is horrible and primitive. It is done by buttons mostly. Not a full shopping cart. I really dislike going to a website to see that they just have paypal buttons instead a full working shopping cart.

Eli is no Mike Kennedy...

I am certainly not, lol Pipercup with the low blows again.
Well, in my opinion it is still good to see all those negative comments just to know exactly how everyone feels, and not to try and suppress that feedback even if by request. You have to know how your users or potential users feel.
Even if it is countless posts saying you screwed up, you are wasting your time with that domain, etc. etc. to me would give me an idea that if I had a large percentage of people telling me that that they might be right and would possibly steer me into another direction like start from scratch if that may be. I'm not trying to say he should do that I'm just saying accept the feedback no matter how negative it may be, it isn't hurting anything it can only help by knowing how people feel.
I'm not telling you to not post any negative. A lot of people have complained about X and Y within the conversation of Auction website features. The same 3-4 users keep saying the same thing over and over and over without providing anything of value of the conversation.
This is not a roast thread.

One feature that I will really invest is embedding your items in your website or facebook page etc. This would be more for hardcore sellers or mom n pop shops that want to sell online on their website but don't want to pay big bucks for an ecommerce website.
Basically it would give you an embedding code that you paste in an HTML page or HTML part of a CMS, and your items would pop up as a grid or list. It will have a "Powered by Gamegavel.com" branding but they could pay a professional business membership to remove that.

I get why people get upset at the buyer's advantage on eBay, but as someone who buys a lot of stuff there, I still deal with plenty of shitty sellers who don't offer what they claim or ship the wrong item, who don't ship in a reasonable amount of time, who overcharge on shipping, who don't help if something goes awry, etc. People can be jerks. You have to protect yourself, and, if you're setting up a place to do commerce, those protections need to extend to everyone in a fair and reasonable manner. Of course you have to entice sellers, but that can't be at the cost of not protecting buyers. Having an item I want isn't going to be enough to make me come to your site and buy it... I have to be sure that it's reasonably safe and convenient for me to do so.
Additionally, Eli, people coming down on you for buying the Game Gavel name... I get that you're high on the idea and a bit defensive... but no one here is out to do you harm. They don't want to see you throw good money after bad. It's your risk, of course, but people like Pipercub and Flojo do have some keen insights. It's up to you if you want to be hurt by the things they say or if you want to take their ideas on board. You can say "off topic" all you like... it's the topic of what to do with gamegavel.com, and people are going to be opinionated about it. You can say "new management" until you're blue in the face... if you are taking on the name, you have to be prepared to take on some lumps. An excellent example is earlier in the thread when the tricky issue of lifetime memberships was brought up... your first instinct was, apparently, to blow it off. Granted, you came in with a probably viable solution later... but that was not a good first thought towards those people in the community who already had dealings with gamegavel.com. I mean, if/when you make a similar thread for RETRO Magazine, you may be surprised by my vitriol... not towards you necessarily (altho' that email thing was still sort of obnoxious... please look before you leap), but my thoughts on how a magazine should be run, formatted and distributed will probably be fairly blunt and not necessarily nice... and I'm a jerk who backed RETRO twice! The very kind of clod who still collects magazines... the kind of person you want to attract. You're putting this target on your own back... it's up to you to make sure your skin is thick enough to deal with it.
Best of luck.
I appreciate your honesty and your comment. My only problem is the same people keep saying the same over and over. Alright, someone already said GG is a toxic waste; lets move on. I understand what I got into, I don't need people repeating it. I know whats up, and I know what Mike did, and how it affected everything. I did this thread and want to talk to the community to improve stuff not to be told "you messed up" every 3 posts. That is why I am brushing off and being dismissive.
If people post just for the sake of trolling or being negative or trying to insight drama, they will lose my respect very quickly, specially if they are not my customers already. If YOU MUST say something negative about the situation at least balance it out with something positive or something that could improve or help the conversation. Be Virtuous ala Plato.

That's kind of exactly what it means. Yes, you have a good reputation which Mike didn't have at the end, but I can't necessarily fault many of the things he tried to do to build Game Gavel into a viable business. If you're looking at this as a hobby rather than a business, then it doesn't really matter, but if you're legitimately trying to build a profitable business, I think it's pretty important to think about what went wrong the last time and come up with an approach that doesn't just do the same thing in a slightly different wrapper.
I've mentioned before, I don't care about making money off of this, I want traffic. Is all I want.
@Shawn - Sure, call me Insane. How do you want me to react? Your pic is not going to make me sad or change my mind. Posting that is literally your time being wasted.

Sure, but ignoring what hasn't worked before is not a good way to move forward.
Just because someone else tried it and failed, it doesn't mean it shouldn't work.
-
Mike tried that.

I don't really care what Mike have or had not tried in the past. Moving forward, I only care about what I can do to improve it.

In order for GG to succeed it has to sell more than just games, plain and simple.
How many of you would sign up to a DVD only auction site? Sure to those of us who are gamers and deal in games on a daily basis it is great but the majority of people are not like the small group of us. There is simply not enough hardcore gamers to sustain a game only auction site.
Just like I would not go out of my way to create an account on a DVD only site so I could casually sell my few DVD's the average consumer is not going to go out of there way to sign up to a game only site to sell there games once in awhile. Majority of people want a full service site that they can use like ebay and sell everything they need to sell.
GG's audience of us gamers is not good. Mike killed that site w/many of the hardcore gamers. So you will need to attract a different member base. I am going to be straight up honest here, if using GG means I have to pay fees, I will not use it. I'm sure many people who purchased into the lifetime account will share my thoughts as well. It was gamble I hoped would pay off and it did not. So you really need to obtain a different member base.
Oh I guess I haven't mentioned. But for sure, I'll add toys (preferably vintage), board games, and some other categories. Won't be games only.

I think the obscuring names is just ebay trying to control outside-of-ebay transactions. Same with the feature that prevents you from writing an email address or a domain on a private message. May be I'll add the see the bidders name to paid subscriptions or something like that. Harassing can be reported to staff, and users could get banned and reported to authorities as we would be able to see name, and address and credit card; heck, even a potty mouth fee to the potty mouth jar of the site would be cool. You curse at a member? automatically pay 1 buck etc.
To the question about why not start from scratch. Surprisingly GG has pretty good rank on Google searches, one that would take me a couple of years of hard work or a lot of money to reach fast.

What about a choice to sellers to pick traditional auction or sniper style auction?
That would make some sellers more popular than others.
-
I would be very surprised if the money actually made it to those mentioned.
I really hope it does/did.
-
Nah I paid, because supposedly he owed to the designer of the magazine and the writers and contributors.
-
Well the thing is Mike is not involved. I lost a lot of money and time on the Chameleon thing; the NY trip alone was like 4-5k. That snowballed in time wasted, prototype/devwork wasted + all the time trying not to be stained by the backlash and doing PR work. Money lost snowballed to not having money for expos for the year, those are lost sales and advertising. Getting gg/retro on a fire sale are the only things that I could/can recoup, or can help recoup all that loss. Remember I was reporting in to the community anything I could. That cost money and time.Eli, did you really expect much else? I mean, come on, you were a big participant in the "Let's rip Mike's eyeballs out and shit in his skull!" thread, were you not?

I gave you a couple of legit things to think about.
So I am taking this seriously. Will brush off any negativity.

double post.

What does it have to do ebay business model etc. With feature suggestions?
He basically answered "what would make you sell on gamegavel" by saying "not gamegavel". I not consider that the answer of thr question.
Anyways, last off topic comment I address.
I havent been able to address helpul comments in the thread.
Edit: and of course I am passive aggresively called unreasonable. Sigh.
