  1. When I came out of college, I interviewed to this workplace that sold Trucking parts and hauling stuff. They needed someone in Maerketing and e-commerce. When I spoke with the guy that interviewed him, he told me the story of the place. At the time (and still till today) there was about 6 different businesses right next to each other selling the same stuff (Trucking parts and hauling stuff). He told me their business was the first one to put a location there, and business exploded! Then a ton of other people saw the success and started to open places right next to them. However, they lived off the scraps. Since they were the original trucking parts place in the area, they built a reputation and a know-to place to go. The rest, as mentioned lived off their scraps.

We just entered this era for retro gaming plug and plays where Nintendo is the original business in this case, and everybody else is going to live off their leftover.

To answer your statement Bill on Atgames, there is no anger at all! They have been successfully selling $6 cost products from Dichroic Cat/Hamy Game, the factory that handles makes the Hamy stuff (I think they do Retron stuff too right? Correct me if I am wrong) for a 500% mark up; they are in all major retailers, you got to give them credit for that, my only criticism is that they've been selling the same technology which clearly has problems for 5 or 6 years now, it was due for an upgrade since year 1 I'd say . This is key for Retro-bit if they want to stay in the game and not be benched indefinitely.

On the Sega license, I just mentioned some rumors that already 3 people have told me. Actually one stated "I can't believe how Atgames has been able to piss off everyone in the industry, including Sega". One claim was even because they were being shady about their royalties. But yeah at the end of the day only rumors. You are in their payroll so you should know more inside info.

Piko Interactive is a free agent and only content provider (honestly we are barely building a portfolio and will never be as popular stuff even compared to Jaleco which is the content provider with the least popular stuff in my opinion) so unfortunately my hands are tied on this one, but again since the shelve space now will be up for competition for 5+ plug an plays (Atari, Genesis, Nintendo, Generations and the Dream Gear stuff) everyone will need to up their game. Even Nintendo will add more games to their PNPs Im sure.

I'd argue we already have it with something like the Retro Freak. It's many times the price, but that's really the ultimate realization of a modern plug and play TV game system. I actually was recommending to AtGames to become the US distributor of the thing, but it's too costly to distribute.

The main problem is the price point these have to hit. There is only so much you can do for $60 or less at retail. If all continues to go well on the AtGames side, I think they'll really start to move the bar on these types of things at that price point in 2017, but there are still several potential gotchas to overcome. Seeing how the behind-the-scenes works, I do have more of an appreciation for the difficulty in execution and how time sensitive many things are, which results in the "mistakes." That's why I privately chuckled at some of the bravado from some of the participants on the Retro-bit Generations side. On one level, I appreciated the confidence, but on another certainly knew that actual execution was a different story.

On Atgames, I've heard they pissed of Sega and might/are losing the license.

On RetroFreak, stay way on US distribution unless you want to be sued by Hyperkin. The RetroFreak Is the Retron 5. They both were made by the same Hong Kong Software developer just sold the world wide but Japan license of the system to hyperkin and the Japan distribution to that other Japanese distributor.

It is still the same thing inside.

That's why Hyperkin had no response with the Retroarch stolen code, because it wasn't them it was the developer etc.

Generations definitely is not aimed to retro gamers at all, more to like casual gamers or people that remembers a bit some of these games and see the console for sale at a pharmacy. There is a lot of room for improvement which I'm sure it can be acquired. Atgames has been selling the same crappy firecore hardware for the Genesis one and still you see them every year on Target. However once there is more competition for shelve space we'll see who can survive the cut!

  3. The thing about shells; we are using for this release original Atari Licensed shells from an official distributor. The license to use those shells has been paid off back in the day. Using clear shells (I think they still have the Atari Brand) would not be ok because those were made recently without Atari license.

So in the future when the shells are available with no atari logo from vendors we will definitely do it.

Unless Albert sells me the mold and I move them close to where I live, then I could make the changes and have more of this stuff available. =D

Regarding the chips - the board is compatible with the PSOP44 chips for 16Mbit AND 32Mbit. Still I we have to split the roms in 16Mbit chunks to get it to run (couldn't figure out how to make it work with a single 32Mbit file). So these 32Mbit were use because I have a ton in stock (because I use them for SNES and Genesis as well). But will also go with cheaper options like 16Mbit ones which I will stock soon.

  4. When you say the "person", do you mean the original programmer? Aren't the rights usually held by the publisher or developer and aren't those rights really hard to track down since they often get bundled and sold to multiple other companies over the years? Chain of title is a nightmare even sometimes for big entertainment companies. I can't imagine the complexities involved when the companies are defunct and the rights in various elements (music, underlying code, etc...) are scattered to the wind.

Most of the cases, person was company owner/founder/etc, also you got to check with publisher owner as well if they retained rights. Very little times a single person made the game and wasn't even paid etc, game cancelled so he retained any right (the case of indigo) is a complicated process which involves talking to several people involved, sometimes even asking for waivers from them.

  5. Hey Guys, so lately we have been working on full force to acquire prototypes along their rights to finish the games and publish them. I want to keep this thread open to discuss the games that we have acquired and the status of each game (usually we get games incomplete).

-Game Name - Status - Description

-Dorke and Ymp SNES - Fully Playable - New World added from source code acquired, New music, bug fixes, and additional boss fights. Available for purchase at http://pikointeractive.com/store.htmland Steam.

    - Pinkie SNES - Fully Playable - debug mode turned off - Currently WTB CD32 and Megadrive protos. Scheduled to release in 2017

-Indigo ST/Amiga - Fully Playable - Game fully playable dumps available online. We are planning GBA/GenesisJaguar ports along physical CD32 physical release.

-Tyrannosaurus Tex GBC - Fully Playable - Proto Rom acquired from fellow Assemblergames member, seems to be fully playable working on a couple of small things that need polish. Physical release for GBC planned for 2017. PC Remaster planned as well as Genesis port planned.

-Jim Power The Lost Dimension Genesis - Fully Playable - Optimized to work on both PAL and NTSC, fully playable with all songs, will be released in a planned Jim Power Crowdfunding campaign along with every physical version of every Retro platform.

-Video Kid SNES - NOT FOUND - Unfortunately the programmer and sub-publisher lost all data of the SNES version. WTB SNES prototype. Hoping Kaneko Japan has a back up somewhere.

-Switchblade II NES - NOT FOUND - Developer who coded mentioned he may have a back up but lead went cold. Currently WTB prototype of the NES version; hoping Kaneko Japan has a back up.

-Madness House of Fun Genesis - FOUND - Found the source code which seems to be complete or almost complete. No Binaries. This version is called PJ in the Dreamland. Hoping to get it compiled somehow.

-ODEMA GBA - Found /WIP - Found the source code for part of the games, art assets for the full game and very early build of the game. Game will be re-written from scratch it seems. Have a lead of a collector that owns a later proto but not willing to sell. WTB Proto for ODEMA GBA

I've been very busy, this is time consuming and expensive, but I'm glad there is progress. Any comments or questions please let me know. Any lead of attainable license/rights protos would be appreciated!

  6. Wow, bunch of people in San Antonio. I'm moving there in a few months.

I really want to pre-order this... but $75 bucks is a LOT for a Jaguar game... I'm going to have to sit on this for a while. It's hard for me to justify that... though I understand these games don't make themselves, and I appreciate the time and effort that goes into them.

Yeah, that price tag will only stay for this first release to recoupe initial investment costs. But it comes with a $10 off coupon on our site (the first 150 copies) for future releases or overall anything on our website =D.

    Cheers!

  7. Assuming I placed the first order, can I get my box or copy autographed? Plus, if you're in San Antonio I can swing by and pick it up when it's ready, to save on shipping :P

Unless you're located on the east side.... then, nevermind lol

I am around the North by 281 and 1604! let me know!

And yeah I can sign it, although, it would be best if Chris would sign it, but he lives in the UK (I think) =D
