Emulation has it's uses but the real thing is best because you do not have to continually upgrade to new versions or tweak settings.

You don't really need to continually upgrade though. Unless there is a new feature in the emulator you want, or a new game supported that you like that wasn't supported before - the constant stream of updates are mostly unnecessary. The vast majority of Arcade games have been accurately emulated for over a decade now. the last few years worth of MAME updates are adding nothing but bloat to support obscure Japanese Casino Video Slots, and not actual arcade video games. Same with most Consoles. Except for the newest systems, pretty much every classic console has been 100% emulated for years, and the newer emulator updates aren't adding games or consoles. Just extra features you probably don't need.
The version of MAME running in my Arcade1up cabinet is from 2003.
